Here are all the Christmas lights switch-on events in Oxfordshire in 2019 that you need to know about. Big thanks to the town councils, chambers of commerce, associations, charities, groups and businesses who organise and support these events.
Friday 22 to Sunday 24 November
Carterton Christmas Lights Switch-on
Friday 22nd November from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
The annual switch-on of the Christmas lights in Carterton will be preceded by the Lantern Parade from the Community College to the Market Square. The evening will also include Father Christmas in his grotto, refreshments and carol singing.
Sunday 24th November
Live stage music, song & dance marquee, festive market, fairground, children’s activities and of course Santa in his grotto. The light switch on is at 6:00 pm around the tree outside Banbury Town Hall followed by fireworks.
Thursday 28 November to Sunday 01 December
Didcot Christmas Street Fair
Thursday 28th November from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm
All the fun of the fair, with sideshows, rides, parades and food stalls, the Didcot Christmas Street Fair, at Broadway and Orchard Centre, is an entertaining evening for all. The theme this year is 12 days of Christmas.
Kidlington Christmas Lights Switch-on
Thursday 28th November from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the High Street
Local school choirs, local Kidlington stalls, Santa's grotto, funfair rides, animal petting corner, concert brass band, hot and cold refreshments and lots more. The lights will be switched on by Santa at 6:30 pm.
Friday 29th November from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Father Christmas in his grotto, Reindeer led Childrens' Lantern Parade, carol singing, and Christmas attractions for a magical evening, and a chance to do some Christmas shopping, as well as sample the delights of mulled wine, mince pies, street food, arts and crafts and so much more, and switch on of the large Christmas tree lights in Market Place at 7:00 pm.
Witney Christmas Lights Switch-on Event
Friday 29th November from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Witney Marketplace
The Witney Christmas lights switch-on event is a family event with live music, stalls, Santa’s Grotto, food and funfair. Lights go on at 6pm. It is jointly organised by Witney Rotary Club, Witney Lions and Witney Round Table, and supported by Witney Town Council.
Saturday 30th November
A Christmas extravaganza that runs all-day around High Street and the Market Place. It includes a parade, family-friendly entertainment and activities, switching on of the lights, fireworks and much more.

This year the Bicester Christmas Lights switch-on will take place in Market Square again. There will be a Christmas market, entertainment, live performances, music, food, and craft from 10.00am onwards, with the lights switch-on at 6.00 pm.
Burford for Christmas
Saturday 30th November
Burford's Christmas lights switch-on, and a day of festive fun (from 2:00 pm to 6:oopm) with Santa's grotto, family entertainment, food and drink, carol singing and Christmas shopping. The lights switch-on is at 4:30 pm.
Christmas Lights On Festive Faringdon
Saturday 30 November from 2:00 pm at Market Square
Santa arrival 2:30 pm, lights-on at 5:30 pm. Father Christmas in his grotto, Thomas the Tank Engine, Wantage Silver Band, street entertainers, Fairground all rides £1, Punch & Judy, craft stalls, Christmas Fayre in the Corn Exchange. Organised by The Rotary Club of Faringdon & District and supported by Faringdon Town Council.
Woodstock Festive Fayre and A Night of a Thousand Candles
Saturday 30th November from 5:00 pm
See the Christmas lights switched on and enjoy a great family event to start the Festive season. Expect a special guest from the North Pole, mystery performance on stage, great Christmas crepes, seasonal mulled wine, entertainment from Woodstock schools, as well as live music. See Woodstock at it's best with late shopping, great restaurants and pubs, the new Woodstock Festive Fayre and Christmas fun in the Square.

Thame’s Christmas Lights Switch-On
Friday 6th December from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm
There will be Santa’s Grotto and Reindeer as well as all the family favourites including the lantern parade, entertainment, children’s characters, refreshments and gift stalls, plus more. Look out for the Steam Train offering rides throughout the evening.
Wantage Dickensian Evening
Friday 6th December from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Wantage Market Place
Dress up in period costume for this Christmas festival held in and around Wantage Market Place on the first Friday of December every year. Enjoy Christmas attractions and start your holiday shopping. Christmas activities for children, switch-on of the Christmas Lights by the Mayor of Wantage, Christmas Carols with Wantage Silver Band and the Parish Church Choir, holiday shopping, and more. It is the night to celebrate the best of Wantage.
