About Art, Music, and Craft: The Mosul Handbag

Inspired by our latest exhibition, ‘Precious and Rare: Islamic Metalwork from The Courtauld’, join the Multaka team for a jam-packed hour of fun family craft and activities, plus an opportunity to learn more about what might be the oldest handbag in the world!

This beautifully crafted bag — made over 600 years ago for a noblewoman in Mosul, Iraq — has silver and gold decoration with geometric patterns and scenes from court life, including a banquet, musicians, and huntsmen.

During this session, you will have a go at the art of calligraphy, learn some simple Arabic words and make and decorate your own bag.

Suitable for children age 7+. Please note that an adult must be present.

We recommend using Google Chrome when booking or using WebinarJam.

Involves printing a pdf.
