About BunkFest 2021
BunkFest 2021 Cancelled
A message from the organisers
We are extremely disappointed to announce that for the second year running we have been forced to cancel BunkFest.
Although recently announced by the Government that they see “no reason to go beyond the 19th July” as the target to end all restrictions, this unfortunately provides no “absolute” guarantee that there will be no restrictions or requirements imposed by the Government or indeed the Local Licensing Authority to deliver the festival safely in September.
As we are all aware there are other festivals going ahead in August and September, however, these are in the main ticketed events where controls can be imposed if required. BunkFest is unique by comparison, in that it is free, without any ability to impose controls on access, in the event that restrictions, such as testing or proof of vaccination / negative test were required for such events.
In discussion with the firm employed by BunkFest to oversee security and safety at the event, they have strongly advised us that controlling any probable increase in numbers at BunkFest would be an unacceptable risk which should be very seriously considered, since any problem might endanger the future of the festival.
To stage the festival in September, we need now to immediately commit significant sums of money, without the absolute certainty that the festival will be able to go ahead. No financial support or insurance has been offered by the Government to the sector, without which we feel that it is too much of a financial risk to proceed, since it could potentially eliminate reserves that we have prudently built up over several years, thereby putting in jeopardy future BunkFest’s.
We know that this decision will be a huge disappointment to you all, however we hope that you will understand that we continue to be in difficult times, and that our primary objective is, and continues to be, to deliver a safe and enjoyable festival for each and everyone of you, which we feel cannot be guaranteed 100% at the present time.
This is not the end, we continue to work and plan, and intend to bring BunkFest back stronger in 2022 and for many years thereafter.
If you have purchased camping tickets in 2020/21 your placed is booked for 2022. For a refund please email firstname.lastname@example.org or via your booking confirmation email.
Directors of BunkFest
Organisers of the unique free family festival BunkFest have made known their intention to hold BunkFest 2021 this year, as planned, from 03 to 05 September 2021, provided Government guidelines allow them to put on a full festival.
Obviously, in these uncertain times, it is difficult to be absolutely certain. But, if this proves not to be the case, BunkFest will resume as soon as it is possible.
Bunkfest is a fantastic free family festival with music, dance, stalls and a beer tent. Details of this small but growing end of summer folk festival including, music, dance, and venues hosting music and other events over the BunkFest weekend, will be published here when it becomes available.
Wallingford is located halfway between Oxford and Reading and easily accessible from the M4 and M40 motorways, train and bus. The Kinecroft, which is the main festival site, is located in the heart of the town.
If you are going to BunkFest by car, please use the excellent Park & Ride service operated by Thames Travel from the Hithercroft Road Industrial area. It will operate on Friday evening and all day Saturday & Sunday.

The Cholsey & Wallingford Railway will be operating trains from Cholsey station to Wallingford over the festival weekend, with Wallingford Station only a 5-minute walk from the Kinecroft main stage.
