Giovanni Bottesini Double Bass Recital

About the Giovanni Bottesini Double Bass Recital

A double bass recital honouring Giovanni Bottesini’s 200th birthday.

Giovanni Bottesini was a famous Italian double bassist, composer and conductor in the 1800s. He was widely known for his phenomenal technique on the double bass, and many people proclaimed him as the Paganini of the double bass.

As a composer, Bottesini composed numerous double bass pieces, including concertos and duos for double bass and other instruments, operas, pieces for solo voice, chamber music and orchestral works.

22 December 2021 marks his 200th birthday, and double bassist Christopher Xuereb and pianist Gerald Hopkin will be commemorating this by playing some of his excellent elegies, fantasies and other famous pieces of music at the Holywell Music Room, Oxford.

The Giovanni Bottesini Double Bass Recital performance starts at 7.30pm.

Double Bass – Christopher Xuereb
Piano – Gerald Hopkin
