Lou Lyne’s been on the music scene for many years. She’s the cellist in Oxford-based cinematic Arabic jazz band ‘Brickwork Lizards’, and has also worked and toured with Saint Etienne, Nick Cope, and Pete Gow and played on Disney’s live action remake of Aladdin.
Now, for the first time, she’s fronting the stage with her debut album “Thinking of Blue Almonds”. The album is an exquisite set of instrumental pieces scored for violin, viola, cello, and piano. Lou’s music comes from the heart.
It weaves together subtly shifting tonalities, Debussy-esque shimmers, nods to Yann Tiersen, and the occasional Arabic inflection to create a glorious and emotive sound world utterly her own. The pieces reflect wordlessly and beautifully on the themes of love, loss, and longing.
The quartet features Vanessa McNaught on viola (Adderbury Ensemble), Jane Griffiths on fiddle (Owl Light Trio), Ashton Gray (Sparsholt Collective) on piano, and Lou Lyne on cello.
