About Oxford Town and Gown 2021 10k race
This year, the Oxford Town and Gown 10k is taking place on Sunday 27 June 2021 (postponed from its original date in May).
Oxford Town and Gown is the oldest run in the series. It started in 1982 by local runners as a fun run to raise funds for muscular dystrophy, and still to this day, all profits from the race go to Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK).
The 2021 race will be the 40th race for the run, which now attracts up to 6,000 runners every year. This includes serious athletes, as well as casual and fun runners.
The 10k run takes you along a City Centre closed-road route that finishes in the University Parks. This route is unique and scenic, which makes it perfect for all runners. You’ll find beginners taking on their first 10k race and more experienced runners hoping to beat their personal bests.
If you’re wanting to run your first, your fastest, or your most orange 10k yet – this is the race for you.
All proceeds from the Town and Gown series support the work of Muscular Dystrophy UK - the charity bringing together the 70,000 people living with more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and -wasting conditions.
Oxford Town and Gown 2021 route
The running route has always shown-off some of Oxfords best landmarks. Expect a scenic tour through the heart of the City Centre, passing many historic Oxford University colleges and Oxford High Street, and then finishing in University Parks. The exact route for 2021 will not be too different from the last live event in 2019, and it will be published closer to the event.
Details of any road closures will be published here closer to the event. Road closures would normally come into force from 8.00am on the Sunday morning and remain in operation until noon. The majority of the affected roads will be on a rolling closure system (i.e. they reopen as soon as the last runner has passed and it is safe to do so).
Junior 3k race
One of the unfortunate consequences of the event date change is that the Junior 3k part of the event has been removed. An alternative date for the Junior 3k race will be provided.
You'll find more information (including registeration and a useful set of FAQs) on the event's website at townandgown10k.com/oxford.
