Oxford’s Christmas Light Festival 2020
20 November 2020 - 22 November 2020
About Oxford's Christmas Light Festival 2020
Oxford's Christmas Light Festival 2020 is a 3-day festival of Arts, Culture and Community.
Whilst the organisers can’t run the festival in the usual way with communities coming together in the city centre to visit the outdoor festive market and watch the lantern procession or live stages, there are still lots of ways to get involved and lots happening to lift your spirits.
This year the organisers are encouraging everyone to join in and make something illuminated and hold their own doorstep celebration with their neighbours.
Choose your own way to respond to our words of inspiration: *the light that moves us forward *green recovery and build back better *my community *real-life heroes *being thankful
So you've made something wonderful - what now?
Well over the festival weekend simply display your creation on your doorstep or in your window and share pictures of what you have made and see other people's.
There will be small grants offered via local street champions for those streets keen to hold their own doorstep celebration and when you're back inside you can log-on to watch an array of live-streamed activity and video premieres.
Starting in 2009 as a single evening with a lantern parade at its heart, the festival now takes place over 3 days and includes light and sound installations, a festive market, music, dance and lots of free activities in venues across the city. The festival organisers are passionate about bringing free cultural experiences into the city centre for all to enjoy.
Hotspots in of activity in 2019 included Broad Street’s Christmas market, Gloucester Green’s live dance stage, magical installations in the Castle Quarter and Westgate Oxford into the mix as the lantern parade weaved through new spaces as well as historic ones.
There will be lots of resources to help people get involved so do visit the festival’s dedicated Oxford’s Christmas Light Festival website to find out more about how to help your street come alive over the weekend of 20 to 22 November 2020.
