With five days of thrilling action set against the magnificent backdrop of the rolling Sussex countryside, The Qatar Goodwood Festival – popularly known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’ – is one of the highlights of the flat-racing season.
Day 1: Tuesday 31 July
A feast of top quality racing attracts the best equine athletes in the world accompanied by the biggest names in the sport. The Tuesday highlight is the Group 1 Qatar Goodwood Cup, won in recent years by Big Orange and Stradivarius.
Day 2: Wednesday 01 August
The Qatar Sussex Stakes, on the Wednesday, is one of the highlights of the flat racing season, with prize money of £1million attracting a world-class field. This mile-long Group 1 race has previously been won by the peerless Frankel, the French sensation Solow and in 2017, by Here Comes When. We wait with bated breath to see what 2018’s race has in store.
Day 3: Thursday 2 August
Ladies’ Day is the most glamorous day of the meeting and is truly the place to see and be seen. There’s plenty of action both on and off the track with three group races, including the Group 1 Nassau Stakes, and the unique ladies’ celebrity race, The Magnolia Cup, taking place.
Day 4: Friday 3 August
One of the most enthralling day’s racing in the entire calendar, the Friday features a total of four Group races.
- The Qatar King George Stakes (Group 2)
- Glorious Stakes (Group 3)
- Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3)
- Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3)
Day 5: Saturday 4 August
The final day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival hosts one of the most exhilarating races of the week, The Qatar Stewards Cup. Get close to the rail and witness the cavalry charge gallop past.
Gates open at 11.00am, with the first race setting off each day at approximately 2.00pm each day.
