The Oxford Shakespeare Festival is back for its 12th year!
Wild Goose Theatre (previously Tomahawk Theatre), BMH Productions, and Siege Theatre will be putting on marvellous performances of Shakespeare’s finest classics.
The Oxford Shakespeare Festival is an outdoor theatre experience that takes place in the castle yard of Oxford Castle & Prison. This year, expect:
Hamlet by BMH Productions
From 20 June to 02 July
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Wild Goose Theatre (previously Tomahawk Theatre)
From 04 July to 30 July
King Lear by Siege Theatre
From 01 August to 13 August
We would advise that you check the weather beforehand and take any appropriate clothing with you such as a coat, umbrella or blanket, etc. The performance will go on unless there is a torrential downpour, in which case the performance may be moved to an indoor location nearby (New Baptist Church on Bonn Square) or a refund offered.
The duration varies from performance to performance. Usually, the play will finish at 10.00pm, but sometimes it can overrun.
Yes, there is a scheduled 30-minute interval in the middle of each performance.
Yes, you can bring your own food and drink, but no alcohol or glass will be allowed.
Glass is prohibited, and if you are found to have it on you, the organisers will confiscate it and return it to you at the end of the performance.
If you would like alcohol during the performance, there will be alcoholic drinks on sale from the Oxford Castle & Prison Gift Shop during The Oxford Shakespeare Festival.
Yes, there will be a limited number of tickets available at the door on the day of the performance. These will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.
For any other questions, please don’t hesitate to email the Oxford Castle & Prison team at info@oxfordcastleandprison.co.uk, and they’d be happy to help.
