Chan Painting\, Lui Shou-Kwan\, 1969.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Cheung Yee and his 1960s Hong Kong Contemporaries\n\n\n\nThis exhibition showcases newly-acquired works for the Ashmolean by the Hong Kong artist Cheung Yee (1936–2019). It will be the first substantial display of his work outside Hong Kong\, including sculpture and works on paper. \n\n\n\nCheung Yee was a leading figure of innovation in the Hong Kong art scene\, especially during the 1960s\, when the city established its own identity as an artistic centre. \n\n\n\nHis work will be shown alongside those by Lui Shou-Kwan (1919–75)\, Wucius Wong (b.1936)\, Liu Kuo-sung (b.1932) and others from the avant-garde Circle Art Group. \n\n\n\nDisplayed with his peers\, the works highlight Cheung Yee’s connection with a generation of modern art pioneers from Hong Kong and Taiwan in the latter 20th century. \n\n\n\nAlthough Cheung Yee is mainly known as a sculptor\, the Ashmolean exhibition will include some outstanding examples of his experiments with works on paper. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Admission is FREE \n\n\n\nDate and times:From 30 November 2024 to 09 November 2025 \n\n\n\nThe museum is open every day from 10.00am to 5.00pm \n\n\n\nLocation:Gallery 11\, ground floor

DESCRIPTION:Ashmolean NOW: Daphne Wright – Deep-Rooted Things\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ashmolean NOW: Daphne Wright – Deep-Rooted Things\n\n\n\nAshmolean NOW: Daphne Wright – Deep-Rooted Things is the fourth in the Ashmolean NOW exhibition series\, where contemporary artists are invited to create new work inspired by the Ashmolean’s historical collections. \n\n\n\nThe fourth instalment of the Ashmolean Now series focuses on sculptures by Irish artist Daphne Wright. \n\n\n\nConceived in partnership with the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin\, the exhibition will feature several new works in plaster\, which consider the tradition of still lifes and respond to the sculptures in the Cast Gallery. \n\n\n\nDaphne Wright works in unfired clay and jesmonite and has long experimented with casting.  \n\n\n\nCentral to the exhibition will be Sons and Couch\, a life-size sculptural artwork cast in jesmonite of the artist’s sons. They have featured in their mother’s moving and personal work since an early age. Photograph by Julian Broad\, courtesy of TIN MAN ART\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout This Is What You Get\n\n\n\nSTANLEY DONWOOD | RADIOHEAD | THOM YORKE \n\n\n\nThis major exhibition will explore the visual art of Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke and the iconic images of Radiohead. \n\n\n\nMore than 180 objects will be on display from the artists’ 30-year collaboration\, including original paintings for album covers\, digital compositions\, etchings\, unpublished drawings\, and lyrics in their sketchbooks. \n\n\n\nThis Is What You Get will reveal how the artists experimented with early technology\, and explore the evolution of the images for Radiohead’s legendary albums and Yorke’s later projects. To date the band\, which was formed in Oxfordshire in the mid-1980s\, has sold 30 million records worldwide. \n\n\n\nDeveloped and curated with Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke\, the show will offer a unique opportunity to look at the creative forces behind some of the most important and influential music of the past few decades. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Prices £8.10 to £16.20 \n\n\n\nTimed tickets are in operation. DESCRIPTION:Through Love Art Exhibition\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Through Love Art Exhibition\n\n\n\nThis September\, Magdalen Road Studios will host a deeply moving exhibition that celebrates the life and legacy of much-loved Oxford social worker and mother-of-three\, Ana Arroyave. \n\n\n\nExactly five years after her untimely death\, Through Love opens on Friday 5 September\, presenting a body of work by Ana’s sister\, the established artist Maria Arroyave. Through a series of mixed media and collage paintings\, Maria explores her own journey of grief\, turning personal loss into art with purpose. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition not only honours Ana but also raises funds for SeeSaw\, the Oxfordshire charity supporting children and young people through grief\, and the Stroke Association. \n\n\n\nAna Arroyave was born in Oxford in 1967\, educated at Rye St Anthony School in Headington\, and later studied Social Work at Ruskin College. She dedicated her career to Oxfordshire communities\, working in education and mental health services\, as well as being a yoga teacher and Relax Kids coach. She lived in Jericho with her husband and three children until her passing in 2020. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will feature three themed collections: Through Love\, inspired by Rumi’s poetry; Immersed in Nature\, celebrating the healing power of the natural world; and Power of 3\, exploring sibling connection.
