SUMMARY:Images of Authority: Portraits Between Iran and Europe
DESCRIPTION:Images of Authority: Portraits Between Iran and Europe\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Images of Authority: Portraits Between Iran and Europe\n\n\n\nThis free exhibition examines the power of portraits in shaping the image of three contemporaneous rulers: Fath Ali Shah Qajar (1797–1834)\, King George III (1760–1820)\, and Napoleon Bonaparte (1799–1814)\, offering a fascinating reflection on the role of imagery in both personal and political life. \n\n\n\nJuxtaposing works on different media from Iran\, Britain\, and France\, the display reveals the strategies these leaders and their image-makers used to convey authority\, ambition\, and personality. \n\n\n\nFor the first time in over a century\, the exhibition also presents two recently restored Qajar paintings\, alongside insights from their conservation discoveries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking informatio\n\n\n\nPrices: \n\n\n\nFree \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nGallery 29 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelected artworks on display\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Seated Portrait of Fath Ali Shah of Iran retouched & conserved\, about 1798\, oil on canvas © Ashmolean Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Portrait of a setar player\, 1797–1798. SUMMARY:Pat Suet-Bik Hui & the Three Perfections
DESCRIPTION:Pat Suet-Bik Hui & the Three Perfections\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Pat Suet-Bik Hui & the Three Perfections\n\n\n\nThis exhibition celebrates the work of Pat Suet-Bik Hui 許雪碧 (b. 1943)\, a US-based Hong Kong artist\, shown alongside others who explore the tradition of the ‘three perfections’ 三絕 – the harmonious blending of poetry\, calligraphy\, and painting. \n\n\n\nFeaturing works by Hui\, her contemporaries\, her teacher Lui Shou-Kwan\, and artists of his generation\, as well as earlier examples from the 17th to 19th centuries\, the exhibition offers a rich context for understanding Hui as both an innovator and a guardian of tradition. \n\n\n\nIn this artistic lineage\, calligraphic brushstrokes carry as much compositional weight as painted forms\, while poetry and imagery combine to create expressions neither can achieve alone. \n\n\n\nHui’s contemporary approach merges abstract and semi-abstract ink and colour washes with understated calligraphy\, inscribing poems that reflect on themes including love\, loss\, and the quiet joys of drinking. \n\n\n\nVisitors will find translations of many inscribed poems and guidance on interpreting the interplay of painting\, calligraphy\, and poetry within individual works. \n\n\n\nHui gifted her paintings to art historian Michael Sullivan\, whose collection was bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum in 2013. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrice: \n\n\n\nFree \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nGallery 11 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Painting with Poem by Xin Qiji\, Pat Suet-Bik Hui & Wucius Wong\, 1987\, ink & colour on paper © Ashmolean Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Painting with poem by Paul Ka-Yin Kwok\, Pat Suet-Bik Hui & Paul Ka-Yin Kwok\, 1999\, ink colour on paper © Ashmolean Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Painting with poem by Nara Singde\, Pat Suet-Bik Hui\, 1991\, ink & colour on paper © Ashmolean Museum

SUMMARY:St Edward’s School Art Teachers: Circa 500
DESCRIPTION:St Edward’s School Art Teachers: Circa 500\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St Edward’s School Art Teachers: Circa 500\n\n\n\nCirca 500 is composed of eleven artists who spend their days teaching\, questioning\, and building alongside the next generation of artists at St Edward’s School. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition turns that practice inward\, revealing the breadth of disciplines that animate their department: ceramics\, sculpture\, textiles\, painting\, print\, photography\, graphics\, and film. \n\n\n\nWhat connects them is not a single medium but a shared curiosity. Clay and thread\, paint and colour\, lens and screen\, ink and object each hold their own language. Together\, they create a conversation about process\, experiment\, and the shifting roles they inhabit as educators and artists. \n\n\n\nThe works on display emerge from the overlap of classroom and studio\, from the restless space between guiding others and pursuing individual investigations. They are presented not as finished answers but as open propositions\, fragments of dialogue\, and invitations to look closer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree entry \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 11 to Friday 27 March 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nExhibition Opening: \n\n\n\nThursday 12 March 5.00pm to 7.00pm \n\n\n\nPlease join in for drinks to celebrate the opening of this exhibition \n\n\n\nFree event / no booking required \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:Juliet & Romeo
DESCRIPTION:Juliet & Romeo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Juliet & Romeo\n\n\n\nWith Lost Dog’s blend of dance\, theatre and comedy\, this Juliet & Romeo reveals the real story behind Shakespeare’s famous lovers. \n\n\n\nIt turns out they didn’t die in a tragic misunderstanding; they grew up and lived happily ever after. \n\n\n\nWell\, they lived at least. \n\n\n\nNow they’re 40ish\, at least one of them is in the grips of a midlife crisis\, they feel constantly mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by the pressures of being the poster couple for romantic love. \n\n\n\nThey have decided to confront their current struggles by putting on a performance about themselves. Their therapist told them it was a terrible idea. \n\n\n\nDirected by Olivier Award-nominated Ben Duke\, Juliet & Romeo takes on our cultural obsession with youth and our inevitable issues with longevity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“I went to see Juliet & Romeo in Canterbury last Sunday – it was stunning. Thank you.” \n\n\n\nAudience member \n\n\n\n\n\n“My wife and I went to see Juliet and Romeo at the Lowry in Manchester on Tuesday. It was absolutely superb. Touched on so many different issues in a very light and considered way.” \n\n\n\nAudience member \n\n\n\n\n\n“Pure pleasure. Smart\, subversive and sexy.” ★★★★★  \n\n\n\nThe Guardian \n\n\n\n\n\n“Insightful\, funny and rich.
