SUMMARY:May Morning 2026
DESCRIPTION:May Morning. Image: Magdalen bridge looking towards central Oxford with Magdalen Tower in the background\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout May Morning 2025\n\n\n\nMay Morning is an annual event in Oxford\, held on 01 May – a tradition stretching back over 500 years. \n\n\n\nA centuries-old Oxford tradition \n\n\n\nMay Morning returns on Friday 01 May 2026\, continuing a tradition that has been celebrated in Oxford for over 500 years. Each year\, students\, residents and visitors gather to welcome the first day of May with music\, procession and revelry in the heart of the city. \n\n\n\nMusic and ceremony at Magdalen Tower \n\n\n\nFrom around 5.00am\, crowds start assembling under Magdalen Tower\, along the High Street\, and on Magdalen Bridge. Students and fellows of Magdalen College gather in the college cloisters and atop the college towers in preparation for the main event. \n\n\n\nAt 6.00am\, the Magdalen College Choir perform the Hymnus Eucharisticus\, a hymn composed in the 17th century by the College’s choirmaster Benjamin Rogers\, from the top of the 144ft tower. The choir also sings three traditional madrigals\, including the perennial favourite Now Is the Month of Maying\, alongside prayers for the city led by the Dean of Divinity. \n\n\n\nWhen the choir concludes\, the Magdalen Tower bells ring for around 20 minutes\, marking the start of the day’s celebrations. A procession moves from Magdalen Bridge up the High Street and into the city centre\, setting the tone for hours of dancing\, music\, and spontaneous festivities that bring Oxford’s communities together. \n\n\n\nDancing and revelry across the city \n\n\n\nTraditionally\, May Morning features Morris dancing on Broad Street\, Catte Street\, under the Bridge of Sighs\, in front of St John’s College on St Giles\, and on the forecourt of the Ashmolean Museum. Highland dancing can be seen in Radcliffe Square\, between the University Church and the Radcliffe Camera. \n\n\n\nRecent history \n\n\n\nDuring the pandemic\, May Morning 2020 moved online\, with choir members recording remotely\, and a similar online celebration took place in 2021. Following restrictions\, May Morning 2022 drew enormous crowds\, particularly as it fell on a weekend. \n\n\n\nIn past decades\, there was a tradition of students jumping into the rather shallow River Cherwell from Magdalen Bridge\, but this was discontinued in 2005 for safety reasons\, after several students were injured. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGood to know\n\n\n\n\nA crowd management system will be in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable morning for everyone.\n\n\n\nLook out for stewards and signage guiding you to viewing spots.\n\n\n\nIt’s important to follow any instructions from stewards\, who are there to help you and others enjoy the experience.\n\n\n\nSpecific viewing areas for wheelchair users\, families with young children\, and those with buggies are set up in the Magdalen College School car park and Rose Lane.\n\n\n\nExpect road closures from 2am to 9am on May Morning\, affecting all traffic\, including bicycles\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGallery

SUMMARY:Wantage Dickensian Evening 2025
DESCRIPTION:Wantage Dickensian Evening\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Wantage Dickensian Evening\n\n\n\nIt is the night to celebrate the best of Wantage. \n\n\n\nThe Wantage Dickensian Evening is a Christmas festival held on the first Friday in December in and around Wantage Market Place. \n\n\n\nIt is a free social community event organised by a group of volunteers and supported by the Wantage Town Council and local sponsors. It is an evening of various activities with a lovely Christmas feel\, including seasonal music and light.  \n\n\n\nInitially\, it was designed to promote Christmas shopping and allow the local retailers to thank their customers for supporting them over the year\, but over the last 20 years\, it has evolved into a richer experience for everyone. \n\n\n\nEnjoy Christmas attractions and start your holiday shopping\, including Christmas activities for children\, switch-on of the Christmas lights by the Mayor of Wantage\, Christmas Carols with Wantage Silver Band and the Parish Church Choir\, holiday shopping\, and more. \n\n\n\nExpect a night of fun. \n\n\n\nIn the last few years\, they’ve had various charity and commercial stalls\, community groups featuring their work\, local artists and performers featuring their seasonal programme\, Christmas activities for children (Father Christmas arriving at his Grotto on a sleigh drawn by a magical sparkly pony\, real reindeer\, donkeys from the Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary\, switch on of the Christmas Lights by the Mayor of Wantage and local radio presenter\, Christmas Carols with Wantage Silver Band and the Parish Church Choir)\, Icknield Way Morris Men and folk band Greengage. There has also been a fun fair on the night. \n\n\n\nEveryone is invited to dress up in period costumes for this Christmas festival. Dress up in Victorian costume if you possibly can – makes it even more fun! You can visit a fancy dress shop\, but many people prefer to make their own costumes from clothes bought from charity shops mixed with old stuff from the back of the wardrobe. \n\n\n\nExpect road closures from 4.00pm to around 11.00pm. The whole of Market Place and the road leading to it will be closed to all vehicular access. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrice:

This early trauma\, neglect or abuse has led to numerous failed educational and home placements. \n\n\n\nEstablished in 1948 at Standlake\, near Witney\, The Mulberry Bush School works with children who suffer from extreme levels of emotional distress\, leading to behaviour which makes it difficult to support them in a standard community setting. \n\n\n\nThe Mulberry Bush Charity is now so much more than just the School. Through its Outreach/Training and Research Teams\, MB3 site in Gloucestershire\, International Centre and a new Consultancy Service\, the charity can support not just 10s or 100s but 1000s of children and those around them through specialist services. \n\n\n\nChildren learn to cope with their trauma and develop a belief in their potential to have a happy future…

SUMMARY:Thame Christmas Lights Switch-on 2025
DESCRIPTION:Thame Christmas Lights Switch-on\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Thame Christmas Lights Switch-on 2025\n\n\n\nChristmas in Thame begins with the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights and Thame Christmas Lights Switch-On is currently scheduled for Friday 28 November 2025. \n\n\n\nIn recent years\, the event has been an evening of festive entertainment – with Santa’s Grotto\, gift stalls\, refreshments\, carol singing\, and more. And the primary schools parading their beautifully created lanterns down the High Street- is a sight not to be missed. \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, the event did not go ahead in Thame. Instead\, a ‘Thame Advent Calendar’ booklet of events and activities for the town to enjoy was delivered through each door in Thame. \n\n\n\nIn 2021\, an event was hosted by Paddy Harris (Cornerstone Church) and Anthony Taylor (Grace Church) with: \n\n\n\n\nMusic brought to you by Thame Concert Band\n\n\n\nMulled wine available from OX9ers\n\n\n\nStilt walkers\n\n\n\nSanta will turn on the lights at 6.00pm alongside three children – one each from the local primary schools.\n\n\n\nLate night shopping until 7.00pm\n\n\n\n\nAs part of the year’s switch-on\, the organisers had hundreds of gifts under the tree\, donated by the people of Thame\, for people in need. \n\n\n\nThe gifts were new and unopened\, and with best-before dates after Christmas for food in three categories: \n\n\n\n\nA wrapped toy/game for a child with a tag attached to say the age and gender of the child that the gift would suit. The Red Kite Centre and Thomley Hall helped to distribute these.\n\n\n\nCosmetic and clothing items for Love in a Bag Thame to distribute to the homeless and vulnerable.\n\n\n\nLong-life tins and food to support local refugee families through Asylum Welcome in Oxford and other agencies. Refugee children also received gifts and toys.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets
