SUMMARY:Oxford's Black & Muslim migration stories
DESCRIPTION:Oxford’s Black & Muslim migration stories\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford’s Black & Muslim migration stories\n\n\n\nThis seminar is one of a new six-part event series taking place this autumn\, hosted by Oxford University’s Community History Hub. The events will showcase a range of innovative local historical projects run by\, or in partnership with\, community historians. \n\n\n\nParticipants will learn about the latest new research being conducted on Oxfordshire’s diverse histories\, as well as gaining new skills that could help shape personal project ideas. \n\n\n\nOn 07 November\, participants will hear about the migration and community histories of local Black and Muslim residents of Oxfordshire\, from two project teams recently funded by the Community History Hub. \n\n\n\n\nThe ‘Place for We’ team has been exploring the ways in which African-Caribbean migrants to Oxford have worked\, played\, protested and built lives in the city\, from the mid-twentieth century to today. Hear from Euton Daley (Unlock the Chains Collective) and Junie James (ACKHI): two of Oxford’s foremost Black History researchers\, who have years of experience between them in building community archives and sharing their histories via plays\, exhibitions\, publications\, and Oxford’s legendary ‘Cowley Road Carnival’.\n\n\n\nThe ‘Muslim History of Oxford’ team has been collecting stories to build a new oral history archive of Muslim community experiences living in Oxfordshire. Sadiya Ahmed (Director of Everyday Muslim) and Dr Aleena Din (postdoctoral researcher at Manchester University) will be discussing the process of building this new archive and will showcase what it tells us about the diverse lived experiences of Muslims who have come to Oxford from all over the world.\n\n\n\n\nThe event is free and everyone is welcome\, but please note that the number of spaces available is limited\, so do book in advance. If you have any questions about the event\, you are welcome to contact Dr Priya Atwal (Community History Fellow) via email at priya.atwal@history.ox.ac.uk. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree event \n\n\n\nDates and times: \n\n\n\nFriday 07 November 2025 at 2.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 30 minutes \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nLearning Studio inside the Stephen A. All participants are requested to do their very best to raise as much money as possible and each Team is expected to raise a minimum of £ 40.00\, which will be donated entirely to Buttle UK as every single penny really does count. \n\n\n\nThe day will begin at the Mini Plant Oxford\, hosting the Start of the event\, between 8.30am and 9.30am. After parking and team registration there’ll be time for a little smooch through the MINI visitor centre for a cuppa before we head off on our route. The first car will leave at 10.00am and the goody bag you will receive at the registration will contain the specially created tulip design road book with directions to the Finish venue. \n\n\n\nThe route will take us out into the unspoilt Oxfordshire countryside and into Wiltshire. After navigating the bustling roads of Oxford City (hopefully much quieter on a Sunday) we’ll hit the prettiest B roads around as we wind our way effortlessly to Swindon and a finish line at Plant Swindon\, producing over 350 different pressed parts for the MINI body shell; they don’t normally welcome events like ours\, so\, it’s a special treat that we are able to take the Mile of Minis there this year. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nEntry cost per team (One Mini and Two people) – £24.00 \n\n\n\nAdditional person cost – £10.00 \n\n\n\nTo include breakfast\, road book\, event badge\, car sticker\, and fundraising pack. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 27 April 2025 at 8.30am

SUMMARY:First World War-themed Family Day
DESCRIPTION:First World War-themed Family Day at Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum\, Woodstock. Images: Great War Society\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout First World War-themed family day at Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum\n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, 02 November 2024\, Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum will host a First World War-themed family day from noon to 5.00pm. \n\n\n\n2024 marks 110 years since the outbreak of the Great War\, while the county military museum also celebrates 10 years since it first opened. The event aims to commemorate this and help families discover more about Oxfordshire’s contribution to events that changed the world and the stories of local people caught up in them. \n\n\n\nFirst World War activities will be open to all the family\, with an illustration workshop focused on wartime animals and an opportunity to make your own ‘Princess Mary’ tin\, like those gifted to soldiers from Christmas 1914.During the event\, the museum’s galleries will be open alongside a range of WW1 living history displays to help immerse visitors in the period. \n\n\n\nThe Great War Society\, Britain’s longest-running First World War living history group\, will portray soldiers from the county regiment (The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry) throughout different stages of the conflict. Those dropping in will also see interpretations of French soldiers from Volontaires Etrangers\, offering a different perspective on the ’War to End All Wars’. \n\n\n\nThe museum’s permanent displays cover some of the many different fronts on which the war was fought\, from the western front to Mesopotamia (now Iraq)\, while a re-created trench dugout offers visitors a chance to walk through history\, with equipment and clothing for families to handle and even try on. \n\n\n\nAlongside living history\, there will be opportunities to find out more about local and family history with several displays from other museums and heritage organisations\, including the Western Front Association\, Chipping Norton Museum\, Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum\, and the Royal Army Chaplains’ Museum. \n\n\n\nGreat War historian and author Helen Frost will also be attending\, promoting her new book Voices from the Great War: Women’s Land Army\, with signed copies available\, alongside a fascinating display of Land Girls’ uniforms and photographs to help tell their often-overlooked First World War story. \n\n\n\nThose with a family story from the First World War and objects to share will find museum staff and volunteers on hand to discuss these and accept donations to the museum’s collections\, preserving Oxfordshire’s military heritage for future generations. \n\n\n\nThe museum is particularly interested in objects from the First World War with a person or story associated with them that ties to the county itself or one of the county’s regiments\, The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry or Oxfordshire Yeomanry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Pay what you can \n\n\n\nDuring the First World War Family Day\, the museum will not charge its standard admission prices for entry. Instead\, visitors will be encouraged to “Pay what you can” – as entry will be by donation. \n\n\n\nAll proceeds will support the museum’s 10th-anniversary fundraising campaign\, helping to ensure the museum can continue to look after and expand its collections while preserving and sharing Oxfordshire’s military and wartime stories. \n\n\n\nParking:Blenheim Palace\, just a short walk from Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum\, is kindly supporting this event\, providing additional car parking for visitors on their site throughout. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGallery

SUMMARY:Oxford Breast Buddy Group Fashion Show and Gala Evening
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Breast Buddy Group Fashion Show and Gala Evening\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Breast Buddy Group Fashion Show and Gala Evening\n\n\n\nOxford Breast Buddy Group (OBBG)\, an Oxfordshire-based charity supporting people affected by breast cancer\, invites you to a gala dinner and fashion show on Friday\, 04 October 2024\, in the majestic surroundings of the University of Oxford’s Examination Schools. \n\n\n\nThe event will celebrate breast cancer survivorship and raise awareness of the charity. \n\n\n\nThis special event will also feature an auction of unique experiences generously donated by supporters and the local community. The evening will be an exclusive event with a limited capacity of 220 guests. A high-quality three-course meal and drinks will be served on the night\, with live music and entertainment alongside the fashion show. \n\n\n\nOBBG was co-founded in 2015 by Professor P.G. Roy\, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Oxford. The charity provides advice\, psychological and emotional support and a safe forum for discussion following treatment and beyond for anyone affected by breast cancer. \n\n\n\nAngela Unsworth\, a member of OBBG\, said\, “This is set to be a fabulous celebration of the amazing work OBBG does in and around Oxford – with all the models taking part in the fashion show being survivors of breast cancer. We hope you can join us on the evening of 04 October. \n\n\n\n“Being told you have any kind of cancer is isolating\, even from people who love you and who you love more than anything else. Support groups of people with lived experience\, to whom you can say anything at any time is so critical\, because you can say nothing which they have not already thought or said themselves. We celebrate the fact that we are still here\, we celebrate that we have such fantastic people as P.G. Roy in our corner and we continue to celebrate the friendship and support of networks such as OBBG.” \n\n\n\nTickets and further details about the fashion show and gala evening are available from the OBBG website. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Individual ticket – £200.00 (plus £17.39 booking fee)Table of 10 – £180.00 per person (plus £15.72 booking fee) \n\n\n\nAgenda:6.15pm – Doors open6.30pm – Drinks reception7.00pm – Dinner and entertainment9.00pm – Fundraising auction followed by after-dinner entertainment11.30pm – Carriages \n\n\n\nDress code: Formal \n\n\n\nGood to know:The event is organised in partnership with the UK’s leading specialist cancer care provider\, GenesisCare.

It will be led by ATC 2507 (Bicester) Marching Band with members of 1 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps and the Royal British Legion. \n\n\n\nThe parade will march from St Edburg’s Church at about 10.30 am to Market Square\, where the outdoor service will be held for the first time.
