SUMMARY:St John's International Piano Series: Angela Hewitt
DESCRIPTION:St John’s International Piano Series: Angela Hewitt\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St John’s International Piano Series: Angela Hewitt\n\n\n\nJ.S. Bach \n\n\n\nToccata in D major\, BWV912 \n\n\n\nFrench Suite no.5 in G major\, BWV816 \n\n\n\nChromatic Fantasia and Fugue in d minor\, BWV903 \n\n\n\nInterval \n\n\n\nPartita no.5 in G major\, BWV829 \n\n\n\nItalian Concerto in F major\, BWV971 \n\n\n\nPrelude and Fugue in A minor\, BWV894 \n\n\n\nAs a child\, Angela Hewitt listened to her organist father play Bach in Ottawa Cathedral; her career was launched in 1985 when she won first prize at the Toronto International Bach Competition; in 2022\, she completed her Bach Odyssey\, a project to perform all J.S. Bach’s keyboard works in major venues around the world. It is a treat to have her present a complete J.S. Bach concert for us. \n\n\n\nThe programme starts with Bach in his twenties\, composing improvisatory toccatas at the court in Weimar. Next\, we catch him in Köthen\, aged thirty and writing the French suites as teaching aids. Then on to Leipzig\, where\, at fifty\, he brilliantly reimagines an Italian Concerto for the keyboard. \n\n\n\nAt this point\, chronology is thrown to the wind. Prelude and Fugue in A minor is the work of a fiery young Bach\, eager to show off his virtuosity as a performer. The gigue fugue in perpetual motion never once lets up – an electrifying end to this concert. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £7.00 to £48.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office. The fee is waived for Oxford Playhouse members. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 25 January 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours\, with an interval

SUMMARY:Tom and Ben Waters
DESCRIPTION:Tom and Ben Waters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Tom and Ben Waters\n\n\n\nBen & Tom Waters — Piano & Sax Duo of Boogie\, Blues & Soul \n\n\n\nFrom the moment he first danced his fingers across the keys\, Ben Waters has been on a mission to capture the raw\, unrestrained joy of boogie-woogie and early rock ’n’ roll. He’s long been celebrated as one of Britain’s most electrifying pianists\, described by the press as “key-shattering boogie-woogie” and “one of the best pianists in the UK.” \n\n\n\nOver decades of touring the world\, Ben has shared stages with musical giants including Jerry Lee Lewis\, Chuck Berry\, The Rolling Stones\, Ray Davies\, Jools Holland\, and many more. His performances are bursting with energy\, humour\, and the spirit of true rock ’n’ roll — a living link to the music that shaped generations. \n\n\n\nA Remarkable Musical Partnership \n\n\n\nBen’s musical journey becomes even more extraordinary when told through the eyes – and saxophone – of his son\, Tom Waters. \n\n\n\nTom grew up surrounded by music. At just eight years old\, he picked up the saxophone after joining his father on tour with Rocket 88\, where he met and was mentored by sax legends Willie Garnett\, Don Weller\, and Alex Garnett. \n\n\n\nBy the age of nine\, Tom was already sitting in with Charlie Watts and was introduced to Bobby Keys and Tim Ries from The Rolling Stones\, who famously presented him with a saxophone to encourage his playing. \n\n\n\nAt just thirteen years old\, Tom made the bold decision to leave traditional schooling and join his father on tour full-time. Together they performed an astonishing 900 shows across 52 countries in just three years\, bringing their dynamic\, family-driven music to audiences around the world. \n\n\n\nTom later refined his craft with formal study\, completing four years at the Royal Academy of Music\, where he graduated with flying colours. His education\, combined with his vast touring experience\, has shaped him into one of the most exciting and versatile young saxophonists in the UK. \n\n\n\nNow a rising star in his own right\, Tom has worked with world-class artists across genres — from rhythm & blues and jazz to funk\, Latin\, and soul — and continues to perform internationally\, composing and recording music for stage\, screen\, and television. \n\n\n\nWhat to Expect on Stage \n\n\n\nWhen Ben and Tom Waters take the stage together\, audiences witness something rare: a deep musical bond between father and son that fuses experience\, passion\, and instinct. \n\n\n\nExpect thunderous\, foot-stomping piano from Ben – a masterclass in boogie-woogie and blues\, delivered with charisma and flair. \n\n\n\nExpect soaring\, soulful saxophone from Tom – at times lyrical and tender\, at others fiery and exhilarating. \n\n\n\nExpect spontaneity\, humour\, and pure joy – every show is unique\, bursting with life and musical chemistry. \n\n\n\nThis is not just a concert – it’s a celebration of the enduring power of rhythm & blues\, rock ’n’ roll\, and jazz\, performed by two musicians at the top of their game who share both blood and beat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nAll tickets £25.25 \n\n\n\nTicket prices include a £1.00 Restoration Levy\, a £1.50 Booking Fee and a 25p Community Fund Levy \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 25 January 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 50 minutes \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\nAll ages \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Kenton Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nSituated in the centre of Henley-on-Thames\, the Kenton Theatre is the fourth-oldest working theatre in the UK and a registered charity.
