SUMMARY:St John's International Piano Series: Junyan Chen
DESCRIPTION:St John’s International Piano Series: Junyan Chen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St John’s International Piano Series: Junyan Chen\n\n\n\nCouperin Les Barricades Mistérieuses; Le Tic-Toc-Choc ou Les Maillotins; Les Ombres Errantes; Les Tricoteuses \n\n\n\nMessiaen Préludes – La colombe\, Un reflet dans le vent \n\n\n\nRavel Le Tombeau de Couperin \n\n\n\nInterval \n\n\n\nBeach Variations on Balkan Themes\, op.60 \n\n\n\nRavel La Valse \n\n\n\nJunyan Chen came away from the 2024 Leeds International Piano Competition garlanded with awards: a silver medal from the main competition\, the chamber music prize and the work by a woman composer prize. She is praised for ‘exhilarating and technically thrilling’ performances. \n\n\n\nApart from a set of variations by American composer Amy Beach\, Junyan’s programme looks to France and first\, to the sumptuous Baroque court of Louis XIV\, where François Couperin wrote his intriguingly named short pieces for the 2-manual harpsichord. \n\n\n\nRavel was a great admirer of Couperin and Tombeau de Couperin – a suite of Baroque-style dance movements – is his tribute. La Valse was started with a similar idea\, as a tribute to Johann Strauss\, but World War I intervened. \n\n\n\nThe Viennese ballroom erupts with distorted rhythms and clashing harmonies to spin ever faster to a shuddering conclusion. A stunningly dramatic finale and a very exciting new pianist on the circuit. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £7.00 to £35.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office. SUMMARY:Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Royal Philharmonic Orchestra\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Royal Philharmonic Orchestra\n\n\n\nSunday 01 March 2026 Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra \n\n\n\nKevin John Edusei Conductor \n\n\n\nSterling Elliot Cello \n\n\n\nDvořák Carnival Overture \n\n\n\nElgar Cello Concerto \n\n\n\nBeethoven Symphony No.7 \n\n\n\nThe Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) returns to Aylesbury Waterside Theatre with star cellist SterlingElliot for an emotionally epic programme of Dvořák\, Elgar and Beethoven. \n\n\n\n‘I am the new Bacchus\, pressing out glorious wine for the human spirit’: Ludwig van Beethoven never pulled his punches\, but until you’ve heard his Seventh Symphony in full flight\, you’ve never known just how intoxicating music can be. That’s just the climax to a whole concert that highlights some of these composers’ most well-known works. \n\n\n\nVirtuoso cellist Sterling Elliot leads the Orchestra through the wistfulness of Elgar’s Cello Concerto with his ‘impeccable musicianship’. Evoking a sense of introspection\, the work’s sombre mood reflects on the closing months of World War I\, contrasting sorrowful melodies with moments of hope and resilience. \n\n\n\nConductor Kevin John Edusei launches the evening with Dvořák’s joyous Carnival Overture\, the second work in his Nature\, Life and Love trilogy; a celebration of the composer’s love for his native land and its majestic landscape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Sterling Elliott’s interpretation….was revelatory. His approach to the slow movement was especially moving\, finding new emotional depths without sacrificing technical precision\, (showcasing) both his impressive control and his ability to infuse classical standards with contemporary relevance.” \n\n\n\nCongress Theatre\, 2024 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £25.50 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 01 March 2026 at 3.00pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nMain Auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Didcot Concert Orchestra - March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Didcot Concert Orchestra\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Cello Sings\n\n\n\nThe main work in this very tuneful concert is Dvořák’s ever-popular Cello Concerto\, with talented cellist Joshua Lynch. \n\n\n\nDating from the composer’s American period\, it portrays both unrequited love and at the same time the homesick longing that Dvořák felt for his own country. \n\n\n\nThe rarely-played effervescent Polonaise by Lyadov is also included in the programme\, along with the American Suite which Dvořák composed immediately after his New World Symphony. \n\n\n\nThe Overture di Ballo predates Sullivan’s operetta works with WS Gilbert\, and is – justifiably – his most-recorded orchestral work. \n\n\n\nTunes aplenty are guaranteed! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nStandard prices – £18.00Concessions – £14.00Under 16s – £9.00 \n\n\n\nMaximum 10 tickets for this event per order. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Cornerstone Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCornerstone Arts Centre is a purpose-built\, professional arts\, culture and entertainment venue in the heart of Didcot\, brought to you by the South Oxfordshire District Council. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2008\, it presents a high-quality programme of live performances\, participatory activities\, exhibitions and outreach work that meet the needs and enhance the experiences of the local community and beyond. \n\n\n\nThe RIBA award-nominated building comprises a 220-seat auditorium\, an art gallery\, a dance studio\, and spaces for workshops and community activities. The centre also has a café and bar\, making it a welcoming space for audiences and artists. \n\n\n\nSee other shows at this venue
