SUMMARY:Oxford Harmonic Choir: Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Harmonic Choir: Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Harmonic Choir: Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio\n\n\n\nFinzi In Terra Pax | Bruch Greeting to the Holy Night \n\n\n\nChristmas will be celebrated this year with 4 lesser-known works from 3 very contrasting traditions. Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël (1858) is delicate and pastoral\, with impressively rich instrumental colours despite the small size of the orchestra used. \n\n\n\nGerald Finzi’s In terra pax (Peace on Earth\, 1954) is as wintry as it is quintessentially English\, but is filled with glimmers of light that shine through its general atmosphere of wistful nostalgia. \n\n\n\nMax Bruch’s Gruß an die heilige Nacht (Greeting to the Holy Night\, 1892) uses huge chords to create a subdued\, reverent atmosphere entirely appropriate to the significance of Christ’s Nativity. \n\n\n\nLastly\, the arrangement of several well-known carols\, Gustav Holst’s Christmas Day (1910)\, offers a seasonal dose of comforting familiarity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£15.00 – £30.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office. SUMMARY:St Agnes Fountain
DESCRIPTION:St Agnes Fountain\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St Agnes Fountain\n\n\n\nAffectionately known as ‘The Aggies’ and ‘The Christmas Band’. The beloved ‘St Agnes Fountain’ (Chris Leslie\, Chris White and Julie Matthews) have toured every December since 2001 bar one\, and we all know which one that was! \n\n\n\nNow they are ready to tread the tinsel boards once more this December\, bringing Christmas (and a new CD) to the nation. \n\n\n\nChristmas\, as they say\, starts with St. Agnes Fountain. Presenting carols with a curve. \n\n\n\nSince their first get-together\, to record the eponymous St Agnes Fountain album in 2001\, the quartet\, David Hughes\, Fairport Convention’s Chris Leslie\, and multi-award-winning duo Chris While and Julie Matthews\, have brought musical invention and laughter to the stardust atmosphere of the season. \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, David decided to leave the band and\, very sadly\, passed away in 2023. He will be sorely missed… \n\n\n\nChris\, Chris\, and Julie will be keeping the Christmas Aggie spirit alive and working as a trio\, celebrating 24 years together again this year. \n\n\n\nAlthough the albums accompany the putting up of a thousand Christmas trees throughout Britain and around the globe as their reputation reaches further afield\, it is\, without question\, their magical live performances that have endeared them to an ever growing audience (tickets were again being sold for this year’s tour as the curtain fell last year). \n\n\n\nChristmas\, as they say\, starts with…… St Agnes Fountain… Fa la la la la la la la la! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £26.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 04 December 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Mill Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre is the cultural hub for Banbury and the surrounding area. \n\n\n\nAs the only dedicated arts provision in the area\, it aims to inspire creativity and enrich the lives of the communities by providing a high-quality\, varied artistic\, educational and participatory programme. \n\n\n\nIt plays a significant role in the town’s cultural\, social and economic development by offering the community the chance to engage with and be entertained by several art forms. \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre offers an exciting live events programme\, including theatre\, dance\, music\, comedy\, film\, workshops and classes. SUMMARY:St John's International Piano Series: Vadym Kholodenko
DESCRIPTION:St John’s International Piano Series: Vadym Kholodenko\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St John’s International Piano Series: Vadym Kholodenko\n\n\n\nBeethoven Piano Sonata no.29 in B-flat major ‘Hammerklavier’ \n\n\n\nInterval \n\n\n\nLyatoshinsky Three Preludes\, op.38 \n\n\n\nLiszt Études d’exécution transcendante d’après Pananini\, S.140 \n\n\n\nGold medallist at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition\, Ukraine-born pianist Vadym Kholodenko is sought after by halls across Europe\, North America and Asia. This summer\, he made his debut at the BBC Proms with Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2. \n\n\n\nVadym starts straight in with Beethoven’s mighty Hammerklavier sonata\, its opening statement of fortissimo chords a challenge to the audience to sit up and pay attention. The longest of Beethoven’s piano sonatas\, Hammerklavier is also one of the most unconventional. \n\n\n\nViolinist Niccolò Paganini enjoyed superstar status\, crowds flocking to witness his dazzling performances. Liszt heard him and\, captivated\, set about piano transcriptions of the pieces. Published as 6 Paganini Etudes\, the work failed to take off – it was simply too difficult to play – and Liszt was eventually persuaded to tone it down. \n\n\n\nThis revised version\, S.141\, is the one normally performed in concert halls today. But not tonight. Vadym Kholodenko gives us the full pianistic pyrotechnics of the original. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £7.00 to £40.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office.
