SUMMARY:Oxford Piano Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Piano Festival \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Piano Festival 2026\n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival 2026 will take place from Saturday\, 25 July to Sunday\, 02 August – nine days of piano festivities\, with a packed schedule of masterclasses and concerts from top names in the piano world. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival was founded in 1999 by Marios Papadopoulos\, renowned pianist and Music Director of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. Each year\, the Festival welcomes piano players and pedagogues\, experts and enthusiasts\, to some of Oxford’s most historic venues\, such as Sir Christopher Wren’s Sheldonian Theatre\, the Holywell Music Room\, and Christ Church Cathedral. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival takes place in the last week of July on the tranquil and scenic campus of St Hilda’s College\, Oxford\, home of the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building\, and located just a short walk from the city centre. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival’s objective is simple: to inspire\, support and encourage music-making at the piano of the highest quality. Welcoming world-renowned soloists and teachers each year\, the Festival provides gifted young players with a rare opportunity to work alongside and learn from some of the world’s finest pianists and teachers\, to perform and learn new repertoire\, as part of a dedicated community of artists which encourages exchange over competition. \n\n\n\nThe concept of the pianist as musician lies at the heart of the Festival. The various roles of the pianist – as virtuoso\, chamber musician\, accompanist\, conductor\, academic and teacher – are all examined. As part of this holistic approach\, the various international schools of piano playing are considered. \n\n\n\nWith Alfred Brendel as the Festival’s Patron\, Sir András Schiff as President\, and the Festival’s founder Marios Papadopoulos a renowned pianist himself\, the bar is set very high in terms of quality and artistic integrity. \n\n\n\nPrevious participants at the Festival have gone on to achieve great success. Notable alumni include Alim Beisembayev (winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition 2021)\, Martin James Bartlett\, Mark Viner\, Alexander Ullman\, Mishka Rushdie-Momen and Denis Kozhukhin. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlights from past events\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook tickets via the festival website or call Oxford Philharmonic‘s Box Office on 01865 980980 (Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm). \n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:See individual events for prices. \n\n\n\nRunning time:See individual events for running times. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenues

In 1979 Fairport decided to call it a day and\, having opened up for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in the early afternoon\, tore across the country in their van to do an outdoor Farewell concert at Peewit Farm on Station Road in Cropredy. \n\n\n\nA year later\, they decided to reconvene with some friends for what would become their annual reunion. Although they had performed in Cropredy before\, 1980 is the year Fairport recognise as the first Cropredy Festival. The festival has continued (on various sites\, including Broughton Castle) up to the present day\, increasing in size from a couple of thousand to its current capacity of 20\,000. \n\n\n\nCropredy is a music festival – it could never be pigeon-holed as a folk festival. Along with the finest in folk and folk-rock – Lindisfarne\, Julie Fowlis\, Steeleye Span\, Ralph McTell\, Cara Dillon – the Cropredy audience has witnessed the likes of Alice Cooper\, Robert Plant\, Status Quo\, Steve Winwood and Buzzcocks. Basically\, whatever music Fairport like is what ends up on the bill. \n\n\n\nAnd\, bucking current trends\, the Cropredy Festival has always stuck to the one-stage idea. The advantage to the customer is that they won’t miss anyone. The advantage to the performer is that no matter how far down the bill they are\, they are guaranteed to be performing in front of at least 10k people. Beats being stuck in an ‘Unsigned’ tent in some remote corner of a forgotten field for sure. \n\n\n\nThe Cropredy ‘Fringe’ – entertainment provided by the two pubs in the village – act as satellite stages. Indeed\, many of the acts that have appeared at the festival have performed at The Brasenose Arms and The Red Lion on their way.
