SUMMARY:H Natural Xmas in Oxford – night one
DESCRIPTION:H Natural Xmas in Oxford – night one\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout H Natural Xmas in Oxford – night one\n\n\n\nSteve Hogarth is back in Oxford with his brilliant Christmas show. For two nights this year! \n\n\n\nLead singer\, co-songwriter and lyricist for Marillion since 1989\, during which the band have produced 16 studio albums\, the latest ‘An Hour Before It’s Dark’ reaching #2 in the UK album chart and #1 in the rock chart. \n\n\n\nH first performed solo as an experiment to pair his favourite songs back to the bare bones: “It’s liberating to occasionally escape the discipline of Marillion’s heavily-programmed music. \n\n\n\nIt’s great to be able to expose the voice and the nuance of it\, to be able to do anything in the moment\, follow the energy of the audience\, and know they can hear the words. \n\n\n\nWhen I sing with the band it’s like riding a monster – very exciting – but by necessity quite “nailed-down” structurally-speaking\, and so working alone is a chance for intimacy\, tenderness and spontaneity.. a more volatile and audience-influenced performance. \n\n\n\n“I play whatever I feel like playing during the show. I try to get a dialogue going with the audience so feel free to ask me a question or two. \n\n\n\nDon’t just ask me to play this song or that song\, ASK me something! Having said that\, I often play requests too. I play songs which\, for whatever reason\, have been significant in my life.” \n\n\n\nA chance then to witness Marillion’s voice up close and (very) personal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a booking fee \n\n\n\nUnder 14s must be accompanied by an adult \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00pm.

Each cantata is designed to be performed on a different day of the Christmas season\, from Christmas Day to the Feast of the Epiphany. \n\n\n\nThe composition skillfully weaves together recitatives\, arias\, choruses\, and chorales\, showcasing Bach’s mastery in creating complex and emotionally rich musical tapestries. \n\n\n\nBach’s Christmas Oratorio is celebrated for its uplifting and joyous character\, capturing the festive spirit of the Christmas story through its intricate musical structure and sublime melodies. \n\n\n\nIt remains a cherished work in the classical choral and orchestral repertoire\, frequently performed during the holiday season. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:From £0 to £41.88 \n\n\n\nDuration: 120 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser

SUMMARY:Behzod Abduraimov – SJE Arts International Piano Series
DESCRIPTION:Behzod Abduraimov – SJE Arts International Piano Series\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Behzod Abduraimov – SJE Arts International Piano Series\n\n\n\nFranck (arr. Bauer) Prélude\, Fugue and Variations\, Op. 18Dilorom Saidaminova The Walls of Ancient BukharaRavel Gaspard de la NuitIntervalPrice Fantasie nègre No. 1 in E MinorProkofiev Romeo and Juliet: Ten Pieces for Piano\, Op. 75 \n\n\n\nBehzod Abduraimov stepped onto the international stage at the age of eighteen when he won first prize at the 2009 London International Piano Competition. \n\n\n\nTrained initially in Tashkent and then in the USA\, he now performs with renowned orchestras worldwide and is a sought-after recitalist. He is praised for his depth of musicality\, phenomenal technique and breathtaking delicacy. \n\n\n\nHis programme is one of scene painting and fantasy\, with a mix of the familiar and the less well known. Fellow Uzbek Dilorom Saidaminova’s composition is a series of eight-scene paintings inspired by the sites and sounds of the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara. \n\n\n\nThe exquisite suite of piano pieces that Prokofiev distilled from his ballet Romeo and Juliet is also scene painting\, but of characters rather than sites – Friar Laurence\, fiery Mercutio\, the Montagues and Capulets. In between these come Ravel’s fiendishly tricky Gaspard de la Nuit inspired by the sinister ‘fantaisies’ of Aloysius Bertrand\, and the first of Florence Price’s four Fantasies nègres\, this one based on the spiritual  ‘Sinner\, please don’t let this harvest pass’. \n\n\n\nfrom The Times\, August 2022‘…. we were held spellbound by the sublime pianism of Behzod Abduraimov in Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto. He coaxed sound of gossamer beauty from the keys and created shimmering halos around the notes. And\, oh\, his scales\, each one a perfectly formed thing. No wonder the conductor Thomas Dausgaard turned to watch in the cadenzas\, intent as any Prommer. This was Beethoven with character\, elegance and wit.’ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlso available:Season Tickets for all nine concerts in the 2024 Series at a 20% discount. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Ticket prices from £20.00 to £35.00Parking (limited availability) £10.00 per spacePre-concert dinner £27.00 per person \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 5+ \n\n\n\nDuration: 120 minutes\, including an interval

SUMMARY:Red Sky At Sunrise
DESCRIPTION:Red Sky At Sunrise\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Red Sky At Sunrise\n\n\n\nRed Sky at Sunrise follows Laurie Lee through his much-loved trilogy\, Cider with Rosie\, As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning\, and A Moment of War\, when Lee famously walked out of the Slad valley one midsummer morning\, and ended up fighting with the International Brigades against Franco’s forces in the Spanish Civil War. \n\n\n\nThe role of Laurie Lee is shared by Anton Lesser and Charlie Hamblett. Anton Lesser has played many principal roles at the Royal Shakespeare Company and is best known for his roles in Game of Thrones\, The Crown\, Wolf Hall and Endeavour.Charlie Hamblett made his debut at the RSC in Michael Boyd’s production of Richard III\, which led to a career in theatre\, film and TV\, including Killing Eve\, Around the World in Eighty Days\, Ghosts and The Secret Agent. \n\n\n\nDevised as a show by Judy Reaves\, the text by Laurie Lee has been adapted by Deirdre Shields. SUMMARY:Witney Jazz Club: Ben Holder Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Witney Jazz Club: Ben Holder Quartet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Witney Jazz Club: Ben Holder Quartet\n\n\n\nSuperlatives abound when people refer to jazz violinist Ben Holder. He is one of the most outstanding jazz entertainers the UK has to offer\, and with his virtuosic cross-fertilisation of classical\, jazz and blues instrumental playing\, gritty vocals and powerful piano playing\, he definitely reaches the musical parts that many others fail to reach. \n\n\n\nThis quartet (The B.H.Q.) has performed together for nearly 10 years\, so they know how to wring the very last drop of musicality from each bar of Ben’s arrangements. Tickets for Ben’s shows always sell fast – be sure to grab yours soon! Ben Holder (violin/vocals/piano)\, Jez Cook (guitars)\, Paul Jefferies (double bass) and Nick Millward (drums). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.30pm. A community space and multi-purpose arts venue. Whether you are looking for music\, theatre\, comedy nights\, lectures\, conferences or even weddings\, it is the venue for you. \n\n\n\nThe Corn Exchange\, Witney\, was built by the private Corn Exchange Company in 1863\, replacing a 16th-century building used in the 1850s as a corn returns office. This beautiful stone building was designed by architect J. Collier of Putney in an Italianate style and\, by 1875\, was Witney’s leading building. \n\n\n\nFrom the outset\, it was used for social events and meetings as well as corn dealings and housed several clubs and societies. The building continues to fulfil this purpose and will continue to do so in the future. \n\n\n\nWith the 19th-century building incorporating all the character you would expect\, plus the addition of modern facilities\, and not forgetting the in-house café and bar 1863\, The Corn Exchange is a destination and focal point for the people of West Oxfordshire and beyond. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about the Corn Exchange\, Witney\, including travel\, access and venue information.

The album became the UK’s best-selling album of 2016 and beat the likes of Little Mix and The Rolling Stones to the Christmas No.1 spot. \n\n\n\nBall & Boe then released Together Again\, which brought the pair another No.1 album in 2017\, and Back Together\, which landed them the No.2 spot in the Official Albums Chart.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2020\, Michael and Alfie released their first festive album\, Together at Christmas\, featuring old favourites and originals. After learning to write and record remotely\, every track had an inspiring story to tell. \n\n\n\nHis debut novel\, The Empire\, was published in Autumn 2022 and became a Sunday Times Bestseller. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:From £51.80Tickets are subject to a transaction fee \n\n\n\nDates & times:Doors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance:Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult \n\n\n\nDuration:This show has an interval \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years.
