Then – dancing to the interval – Liszt’s fast and furious Tarantella. \n\n\n\nThe second half is Pictures at an Exhibition. This came about after Mussorgsky’s close friend\, artist Viktor Hartmann\, died suddenly at the age of 39. \n\n\n\nIn the form of a stroll through an exhibition of Hartmann’s work\, with a pause to look at each picture\, it is one of those pieces that is so special it can seem too familiar. It is certain that tonight it won’t. Presenting the piece at Wigmore Hall in 2023\, Alexander Gavrylyuk received not one but two standing ovations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £18.00 to £40.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office. SUMMARY:Hackney Colliery Band
DESCRIPTION:Hackney Colliery Band\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Hackney Colliery Band\n\n\n\nSince 2009\, East London musical pioneers Hackney Colliery Band have pushed the boundaries of brass band conventions\, building a steadfast fanbase with their joyous live shows and slew of heralded releases. \n\n\n\nNow fifteen years deep into their collective journey\, and with some incredible career highlights to note (such as performing to 80\,000 people at the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games in London)\, the 9 piece outfit prepare to announce their 6th full-length offering\, the hotly anticipated ‘Collaborations: Volume Two’. \n\n\n\nWhereas their fifth album ‘Collaborations: Volume One featured a range of World Music legends\, including Grammy-winning Beninese vocalist Angélique Kidjo and godfather of Ethiopian jazz Mulatu Astatke\, ‘Volume Two’ sees HCB focus on songs and singers\, alongside a sprinkling of instrumentals featuring harp\, guitar\, cello\, and even conch shells. \n\n\n\nAs anyone who has attempted any degree of social organisation will attest\, it is no mean feat to gather nine people in one place\, at the same time\, on a semi-regular basis\, never mind taking this group of people all over the world to play instrumental music. \n\n\n\nAdd into the mix an industry where artists are encouraged to find a genre niche and stick to it – advice HCB have joyously ignored for their fifteen-year career – and the community and kinship that HCB have built up over this time seems even more remarkable. \n\n\n\nFrontman/composer Steve Pretty and composers Olly Blackman and Luke Christie say of this release: “It’s a privilege and joy to still be playing together after all these years\, and especially to be pushing each other to be as creative and innovative as we can be. \n\n\n\n“The process of collaborating with so many amazing artists and the freshness that’s brought to the project is endlessly inspiring. Some of this music started life almost a decade ago\, and other tracks are only a few months old\, but we’re so proud of the breadth of musical talent on display with this record.” \n\n\n\nA testament to their tenure and calibre as musicians\, ‘Collaborations: Volume Two’ is an exuberant and original addition to HCB’s already impressive and varied catalogue\, highlighting their restlessly collaborative and creative instincts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£25.00 \n\n\n\nAll prices include any booking fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 28 April 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Theatre Chipping Norton\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Theatre Chipping Norton\, sometimes called The Theatre\, Chipping Norton or Chipping Norton Theatre\, is a theatre\, an arthouse cinema\, a gallery and a concert hall in Chipping Norton. \n\n\n\nThe theatre has has 217 seats\, including stalls and a balcony. It is a resource for the community\, and it is also a professional venue\, welcoming over 55\,000 customer visits every year. \n\n\n\nIt is something unique\, but it is also different things to different people. It is the cause and subject of many arguments and debates; and a fair amount of acclaim and affection. It is complicated and a little eccentric. \n\n\n\nIt is not a little theatre. It likes to make a big noise. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about The Theatre Chipping Norton\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Mozart Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Mozart Requiem\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Mozart Requiem\n\n\n\nMozart Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major\, K. 488 \n\n\n\nMozart Requiem in D minor\, K. 626 \n\n\n\nSarah Dufresne soprano \n\n\n\nClaire Barnett-Jones mezzo-soprano \n\n\n\nJoshua Ellicott tenor \n\n\n\nJonathan Lemalu bass \n\n\n\nOxford Philharmonic Choir \n\n\n\nRainer Küchl guest concertmaster \n\n\n\nMarios Papadopoulos conductor/piano \n\n\n\nMarios Papadopoulos conducts and performs in an evening devoted to the genius of Mozart. The programme opens with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23\, where Papadopoulos’s delicate yet dynamic piano playing brings this lyrical masterpiece to life. \n\n\n\nThe second half of the concert features Mozart’s Requiem\, a profound and dramatic work\, performed by the Oxford Philharmonic Choir\, capturing both the composer’s deep spirituality and his unparalleled gift for orchestral and choral texture. \n\n\n\nThis performance includes the world premiere live performance of Robert Saxton’s Agnus Dei for the Requiem by Mozart\, written in 2017 for a projected TV drama. The writer/producer Peter Kosminsky (who had directed Wolf Hall) wanted a ‘darker’ Agnus Dei in the manner of late Mozart\, replacing the very beautiful movement by Mozart’s pupil\, Süssmayr. \n\n\n\nMozart: Requiem but still no peace \n\n\n\nLeft incomplete on his death\, Mozart’s setting of the Requiem Mass has been one of the most debated and argued-over works in the history of music. Nicholas Kenyon explores the turbulent background to the piece and the many versions of it that exist today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £18.00 \n\n\n\n(Students from £5.00) \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 30 April 2026 at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nPre-concert talk given by Sir Nicholas Kenyon at 6.00pm

DESCRIPTION:The Easy Rollers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Easy Rollers\n\n\n\nDelighting audiences with their enormous repertoire of their own songwriting and arrangements\, The Easy Rollers are a septet who embody the famed spirit and consummate virtuosity of today’s booming British jazz scene and bring it straight back to the music’s roots: 1920s and ’30s Harlem\, Kansas City and New Orleans. \n\n\n\nReleased in 2025\, their critically acclaimed album ‘… And Another Thing’ – spun on BBC Radio 3 and praised internationally for its “craft\, strong ensemble work\, and a clear passion” (Jazz In Europe)  – was launched in London at a sold-out PizzaExpress Live. In 2026\, The Easy Rollers celebrate their 10th anniversary\, embarking on their most high-profile UK tour yet. \n\n\n\nFronted by the captivating Dani Sicari\, whose time-machine of a voice is evocative of early greats like Helen Kane and Ruth Etting\, The Easy Rollers have long established a reputation for delivering performances that channel the in-the-moment dynamism of the Jazz Age at the height of its cultural grandeur. \n\n\n\nArising from their love of the tradition\, they take pride in marrying a conscientious approach to authenticity with their mission of ensuring this effervescent era of jazz is never presented merely as a nostalgic museum piece. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£20.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 06 May 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:St John's International Piano Series: Mishka Rushdie Momen
DESCRIPTION:St John’s International Piano Series: Mishka Rushdie Momen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St John’s International Piano Series: Mishka Rushdie Momen\n\n\n\nBeethoven Piano sonata no.14\, op.27 no.2 ‘Moonlight’ \n\n\n\nBeethoven Piano sonata no.28\, op.101 \n\n\n\nInterval \n\n\n\nBeethoven Piano sonata no.6\, op.10 no.2 \n\n\n\nRavel Miroirs \n\n\n\nMishka Rushdie Momen studied with Dame Imogen Cooper and with Sir András Schiff. She has appeared across the USA and Europe\, last season’s recitals including Wigmore Hall\, Aldeburgh Festival and the re-opening of the Frick Collection\, New York. \n\n\n\nHer programme includes three Beethoven piano sonatas\, from very early to late. She starts in the chronological middle with the lovely ‘Moonlight’ sonata. \n\n\n\nThe catchy name was added by others: Beethoven himself subtitled the sonata ‘Quasi una fantasia’ and it is a kind of fantasy\, opening with a dreamy adagio\, the melody building to an aching sadness and mystery. \n\n\n\nFor her final piece\, Mishka leaves Beethoven for Ravel. Miroirs is a brilliant impressionistic work\, composed when Ravel had begun to make his mark with the public but was still battling for recognition with entrenched powers at the Paris Conservatoire. \n\n\n\nEach one of the five movements is dedicated to a friend and fellow member of the avant-garde club Les Apaches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £7.00 to £35.00 \n\n\n\nA fee of £1.50 per transaction applies to bookings for this event across all channels – website\, phone and in-person bookings at the Box Office. The fee is waived for Oxford Playhouse members. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 07 May 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours\, including an interval. \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nPlease note that Mishka has revised her programme. It was originally to be all Beethoven – she is now playing Ravel’s Miroirs in place of Beethoven’s Piano sonata no. 32\, op. 111.

BBC Radio 1 presenter\, the late John Peel\, made it his single of the year. \n\n\n\nThey are particularly proud of their UK chart success with songs such as I Will Love You and When You Were Sweet Sixteen\, which in turn helped bring Irish folk and traditional music to a completely new audience. The band made their Top of the Pops debut in 1981. \n\n\n\nEddie Furey recalls how “many musicians have told us we influenced them after hearing a record from their parents’ or grandparents’ collection”. \n\n\n\nDave Stewart of The Eurythmics has credited Eddie with teaching him his first chords on the guitar while still a teenager. Eddie would return the compliment by joining Dave on stage in Paris for a jam during Dave’s wedding to Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey. \n\n\n\nTheir emotive songs stir many emotions\, tears and laughter\, sadness and joy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £30.50 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nMonday 11 May 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Mill Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre is the cultural hub for Banbury and the surrounding area. \n\n\n\nAs the only dedicated arts provision in the area\, it aims to inspire creativity and enrich the lives of the communities by providing a high-quality\, varied artistic\, educational and participatory programme. \n\n\n\nIt plays a significant role in the town’s cultural\, social and economic development by offering the community the chance to engage with and be entertained by several art forms. \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre offers an exciting live events programme\, including theatre\, dance\, music\, comedy\, film\, workshops and classes. SUMMARY:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Brahms and Tchaikovsky
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Brahms and Tchaikovsky\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Brahms and Tchaikovsky\n\n\n\nTchaikovsky Souvenir de Florence\, Op. 70 \n\n\n\nBrahms String Sextet No. 1 in B flat major\, Op. 18 \n\n\n\nCarmine Lauri violin \n\n\n\nAnna-Liisa Bezrodny violin \n\n\n\nJon Thorne viola \n\n\n\nJonathan Barritt viola \n\n\n\nMats Lidström cello \n\n\n\nJane Salmon cello \n\n\n\nMembers of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra come together for an exhilarating evening of supersized chamber music\, guaranteed to set the pulse racing. \n\n\n\nTchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence is a work of turbulent anguish masquerading as one of utter joie de vivre\, in which a thick-set ensemble dances its way around a tune the composer noted down during an otherwise fruitless trip to the Tuscan capital. \n\n\n\nBrahms’s own sextet for strings is an early work that combines Mozart’s charm\, Beethoven’s exuberance\, Mendelssohn’s momentum and Brahms’s own luxuriance – and to quite magnificent effect. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – £30.00 \n\n\n\nStudents – £5.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 16 May 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Holywell Music Room\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Holywell Music Room in Oxford is one of the oldest purpose-built concert halls in Europe and a treasured cultural landmark in the city.
