The live renditions will also be released in video form\, the latest being ‘Maybe When It’s Over’ is out now (see below)\, with more to follow in the coming weeks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Getting to bring the band with me for the first time\, visiting as many cities as possible across the UK for my longest and biggest run to date is extremely exciting. Every song I have written since starting this journey has been made with other musicians in mind \n\n\n\n“I’ve wanted to do this for the longest time\, and I’m so grateful that the time has come. We’ve got a lot planned to make the show truly special and I can’t wait for people to see it. See you out on the road!” \nJoe Hicks\n\n\n\nRaised in the rural market town of Newbury\, England\, Joe Hicks blends pop\, blues and folk influences\, combining intricate guitar composition with classic pop song-craft.  \n\n\n\nReleased in September 2022\, ‘The Best I Could Do at the Time’ is an earnest collection of music\, combining Joe’s exceptional songwriting\, influences such as John Mayer and Paul Simon\, and pop sensibilities with a boldness to wear his heart on his sleeve. \n\n\n\nWith the album’s deluxe edition release on 03 November\, expect to hear acoustic reworkings and some brand-new live versions of songs from the album\, recorded exclusively for the reissue.  \n\n\n\nHowever\, the acoustic recordings are not just a standard vocal-and-guitar reimagining – elements such as slide guitar\, multiple harmonies and different guitar grooves come into play\, shining a brand new light on these songs.  \n\n\n\nAs for the live performances\, Joe played a sold-out show at Arlington Arts Centre in his Newbury hometown in late 2022 and decided to bring a full-circle moment to the deluxe album by recording these at the same venue\, providing an exciting glimpse at what to expect for his November 2023 UK tour.  \n\n\n\nThese live renditions will also be released in video form\, the first being ‘One More Step’ is out now\, with the rest to follow in the coming weeks. \n\n\n\n\n“The idea around the deluxe album came initially from the desire to explore some of the songs on my debut album in a more stripped back way and from a different mindset. The Best I Could Do at the Time is\, first and foremost\, a pop album\, and so all the production decisions when making it were about amplifying those elements and leaning into them. \n\n\n\n“The live recordings on the new release were a later addition. I wanted to film some videos to show how the songs from The Best I Could Do at the Time sound and look live with the band behind me. At the beginning of their career\, Level 42 was squarely a jazz-funk fusion band\, contemporaries of fellow Brit funk groups like Atmosfear\, Light of the World\, Incognito\, and Beggar & Co. Their music was instantly recognizable from Mark King’s thumb-slap bass technique and associate member Wally Badarou’s synthesizer flourishes. \n\n\n\nBy the end of the ’80s\, however\, the band had crossed over to the point where they were often classified as sophistic-pop and dance-rock\, equally likely to be placed in the context of Sade and the Style Council – as was any group that made polished\, upbeat\, danceable pop/rock. DESCRIPTION:Songs of Desire with Jacobine van Laar (mezzo-soprano) and Ilya Chetverikov (piano)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Songs of Desire\n\n\n\nWith international mezzo-soprano Jacobine van Laar and pianist Ilya Chetverikov \n\n\n\nRichard Wagner – Wesendonck LiederRalph Vaughan Williams – The House of Life \n\n\n\nA song recital evoking the mysteries of physical and spiritual love. \n\n\n\nWagner wrote the Wesendonck Lieder when he and his wife were offered sanctuary by Otto and Mathilde von Wesendock on their estate in Zurich. During this period\, Mathilda and Richard were a great inspiration to each other. Much has been speculated about the nature of the relationship between Wagner and Mathilde. Perhaps the answer is revealed in these exquisite songs. \n\n\n\nWhen composing The House of Life\, Vaughan Williams chose a selection of the eponymous sequence of sonnets by the Pre-Raphaelite painter/poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti. This collection is also known as The Kelmscott Love Sonnets\, after Kelmscott Manor in West Oxfordshire\, where Rossetti took joint tenancy with designer William Morris and his wife Jane. She not only was the the inspiration for Rossetti’s many portraits but also for The House of Life. \n\n\n\nIt seems both song cycles have quite a few things in common\, including the theme of transfiguration from love into death. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrice: £15.00
