SUMMARY:OUO & Daniel Hogan: An Evening of Orchestral Dances
DESCRIPTION:OUO & Daniel Hogan: An Evening of Orchestral Dances\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout OUO & Daniel Hogan: An Evening of Orchestral Dances\n\n\n\nProgramme: \n\n\n\nAdams – The Chairman Dances \n\n\n\nGinastera – Dance Suite from Estancia \n\n\n\nRachmaninoff – Symphonic Dances \n\n\n\nYoung conductor Daniel Hogan joins OUO in an evening of orchestral dances\, featuring as its main item Rachmaninoff’s electrifying final masterpiece\, the Symphonic Dances. \n\n\n\nEntirely written in the United States\, this work evokes a ghostly nostalgia of the composer’s Russian homeland\, saturated with ecclesiastical chants such as the Dies irae\, and enigmatic retrospections on his earlier works – the First Symphony and All-Night Vigil. \n\n\n\nJohn Adams’ captivating The Chairman Dances\, an “outtake” from his first opera Nixon in China portraying Chairman and Madame Mao’s exuberant foxtrot\, will open the concert\, alongside the Dance Suite from Ginastera’s Estancia\, a lively ballet – inspired by the epic Martin Fierro by José Hernández – saturated with spirited Argentinian rhythms. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – From £18.00    \n\n\n\nConcessions – From £8.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 24 May 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\n\nPlease sign up for the mailing list via the form on the Contact page to be notified when tickets are available.\n\n\n\nPlease arrive at the Sheldonian 15 minutes before the advertised concert time to be seated and allow the performance to start on time.
