SUMMARY:Call and Response
DESCRIPTION:Call and Response\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Call and Response\n\n\n\nCall and Response brings together two Oxford-based arts organisations dedicated to fostering connection\, skill-sharing\, and professional development. Artists from the Warehouse Art School and Art-Sauce present an exhibition in two parts to exchange ideas and creative practice.  \n\n\n\nPart one (02 – 12 July) presents the culmination of a year of enquiry\, experimentation\, and personal growth by eight artists from the Warehouse Art School Continuing Creative Practice course.  \n\n\n\nPart two (17 July – 09 August) furthers the conversation with artists from Art-Sauce\, who have engaged in a collaborative process to draw direct inspiration from each other to encompass the theme of Call and Response.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibition takes its name from the principle of dialogue—between artists and their peers\, between organizations that share a commitment to artistic growth\, and between the work and its audience. Just as call and response is a form of exchange\, this exhibition invites the public into a wider conversation: to engage and bring their own perspectives into the creative process.   \n\n\n\nDrawing inspiration from supportive communities of practice\, Call and Response invites dialogue—between individuals\, disciplines\, and experiences—to enrich and sustain creative development.  \n\n\n\nSpecial Events \n\n\n\nPart One: Warehouse Art School \n\n\n\nOfficial Opening Party: \n\n\n\nWednesday 02 July 6.00pm – 8.00pm \n\n\n\nMeet the Artists\, followed by a performance by the Feisty Choir: \n\n\n\nWednesday 09 July 6.30pm – 8.00pm \n\n\n\nPart Two: art-sauce \n\n\n\nOfficial Opening Party: \n\n\n\nSaturday 19 July 6.00pm – 8.00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree entry. SUMMARY:Abingdon Air and Country Show 2025
DESCRIPTION:Abingdon Air and Country Show\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Abingdon Air and Country Show 2025\n\n\n\nThe Abingdon Air and Country Show 2025 will take place at Abingdon Airfield / Dalton Barracks on Saturday\, 14 June 2025. From dynamic flying displays to arts and crafts stalls\, the show will have something for everybody. \n\n\n\nThere’ll be aerobatic displays from warbirds and biplanes to modern-day jets. SUMMARY:Isabel Fishlock: Dreamlands
DESCRIPTION:Isabel Fishlock: Dreamlands\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Isabel Fishlock: Dreamlands\n\n\n\nIsabel Fishlock’s latest exhibition\, Dreamlands\, is a vibrant showcase of new works that captivate the viewer with their bold energy and dreamlike quality. The collection features a stunning range of paintings\, varying in scale\, that draw you into a world brimming with colour. Isabel’s use of colour is striking—each piece bursts with tones that shift and dance across the canvas. The landscapes she creates are ethereal\, almost otherworldly\, transporting the viewer to tranquil yet surreal spaces.  \n\n\n\nBold graphic florals are at the heart of the exhibition\, their striking patterns and vibrant palettes commanding attention. These works are full of life\, bringing a sense of freshness and vitality to the space.  \n\n\n\nThis marks Isabel’s first exhibition in Oxford\, following her sold-out show in London. A graduate of Central Saint Martins School of Art\, Isabel spent 10 years painting and designing prints for leading luxury fashion brands including Dior and Paul Smith before focusing on her fine art career. \n\n\n\nFor the past five years\, she has dedicated herself to painting\, now bringing her distinctive vision to Oxford with works that exist in a world just beyond our own\, where reality blurs and colour takes centre stage. This exhibition is a true celebration of colour and form.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree entry. SUMMARY:Bill Prosser & Sarah Blair: Inside Out
DESCRIPTION:Bill Prosser & Sarah Blair: Inside Out\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Bill Prosser & Sarah Blair: Inside Out\n\n\n\nAn exhibition of drawings\, book pieces\, prints\, and poster poems\, relating in different ways to the notions of outside and in. \n\n\n\nOutside \n\n\n\nSarah Blair specialises in text-image works. Her series of poster poems on the theme of weather invites conversation around our changing climate and any accompanying shifts in our consciousness. \n\n\n\nThis project responds to archival ‘weather diaries’ of the 18th and 19th centuries\, when weather-watching was also becoming something of a fashionable national pastime. Amateur enthusiasts were reaching for barometers and thermometers on verandas and in bedrooms\, confecting a new type of language to pin down observations and hunches. \n\n\n\nThe work featured in this show focuses on the year 1824-25\, precisely 200 years ago. \n\n\n\nInside \n\n\n\nAfter fifty years of trying\, Bill Prosser is still making matter-of-fact drawings about things that don’t matter. \n\n\n\nTalk and tea with the artist Sarah  Blair \n\n\n\n17 May 2.00pm – 3.00pm \n\n\n\nJoin Sarah for a slice of cake and a tour of the exhibition. \n\n\n\nFree Entry / Booking Required \n\n\n\nIn Conversation: Bill Prosser & Sarah  Blair \n\n\n\nThursday 29 May 6.00pm – 7.30pm \n\n\n\nJoin us for drinks at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start. \n\n\n\nFree Entry / Booking Required \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree entry \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 14 to Saturday 31 May 2025 \n\n\n\nOpening hours: Monday to Saturday at 10.00am – 4.00pm \n\n\n\nClosed: Sunday and Bank Holidays \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:Art Late Spring 2025
DESCRIPTION:Art Late Spring 2025\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Art Late Spring 2025\n\n\n\nThe North Wall\, Turrill Sculpture Garden\, and Sarah Wiseman Gallery are collaborating once again to bring you an evening of exhibition viewings and wine tastings. The experts at Grape Minds will present two different wines to taste in each gallery\, Art-K will run an interactive art-making session\, White Coco will be open for late-night shopping and there will be coffee and Indian food at The Meet Point. \n\n\n\nEach venue will conduct a guided tour – starting at Turrill Sculpture Garden at 5.45pm\, then the North Wall at 6.15pm\, then Sarah Wiseman Gallery at 6.45pm. Can’t make the tour times? Not to worry – guests are still welcome to make their own way around if they wish. \n\n\n\nThe Exhibitions \n\n\n\nThe North Wall will present a retrospective of the work of Marjorie Collins; paintings Marjorie has completed since moving to Oxford from Chicago in 1975 until 2025. Although Marjorie started out painting people and places\, she is better known for her colourful contemporary watercolours of still lifes and florals often painting objects larger than life. \n\n\n\nTurrill Sculpture Garden is celebrating their 25th Silver Anniversary. Their show this Art Weeks features silver metal sculpture in many forms by several very talented sculptors\, all set in a peaceful leafy setting. \n\n\n\nSarah Wiseman Gallery are pleased to present Glitch\, a solo show by printmaker Ade Adesina. Growing up in Nigeria and then moving to Aberdeen\, Ade’s works are imaginary compositions of the juxtaposing landscapes. \n\n\n\nHeavy machinery sits among safari wildlife\, clouds are often found suspended from metal chains in a bleak sky\, and baobab trees dominate man-made cityscapes. Visually striking and complex\, Ade’s black & white imagery tells the story of his fascination with the world’s turbulent environment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree admission \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 09 May 2025 at 5.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:Marjorie Collins: A Retrospective 1975-2025
DESCRIPTION:Marjorie Collins: A Retrospective 1975-2025\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Marjorie Collins: A Retrospective 1975-2025\n\n\n\nLight\, and the abstract shadows\, shapes\, and reflections that it can impart on objects or surfaces\, is the unifying theme that runs through the work in Marjorie Collins’ retrospective exhibition. \n\n\n\nAlthough she started out painting people and places\, today Marjorie is better known for her colourful contemporary watercolours of still lifes and florals\, often painting objects larger than life. Marjorie still paints urban scenes\, many from unusual angles to create abstract shapes\, but with the resulting image still representational. \n\n\n\nAbout the Artist  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarjorie grew up in Chicago and trained at the University of Michigan\, where she gained a Bachelor’s degree in Design\, followed by part-time graduate courses at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was in Chicago that her interest in how light falls on buildings led to the style that characterises her work. She moved to Oxford in 1975\, and this exhibition follows the refinement of that technique. \n\n\n\nShe has exhibited widely\, and her work can be found in a number of corporate and private collections both in the UK and the US. Images of her work have appeared in a number of art publications and on the artuk.org website. Marjorie is a Member of the Society of Women Artists\, the Society of Botanical Artists\, and the Oxford Art Society.  \n\n\n\nThis exhibition represents a selection of the paintings Marjorie has completed since moving to Oxford from Chicago in 1975 until the present. During this time\, she has exhibited her paintings widely in galleries in solo and group shows both in the United States and in England\, where her work can be found in corporate\, private\, and public collections.   \n\n\n\nOpen exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition\, Sunday Times Watercolour Competition\, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours\, and the Royal Watercolour Society. \n\n\n\nAmong the many prizes her work has received are:  \n\n\n\n\nWinsor and Newton Grand Award – Celebration 2000 Competition (Artist Magazine) \n\n\n\nRunner Up St Cuthbert’s Mill Award – Society of Botanical Artists Competition 2007 \n\n\n\nDaler Rowney Purchase Prize – Society of Women Artists 2008 \n\n\n\nFinalist Flowers and Garden Competition – International Artist Magazine 2009 \n\n\n\nWinsor and Newton First Prize – Royal Watercolour Society 2011 \n\n\n\nDaniel Smith Excellence in Colour Award – Society of Women Artists 2011 \n\n\n\nShortlisted Artist of the Year Award – Artist and Illustrator Magazine 2013\, 2014 \n\n\n\nShortlisted Artist – Jacksons Open Art Prize 2018 \n\n\n\nSt Cuthbert’s Paper Mill Award – Society of Women Artists 2018 \n\n\n\nWinner – Artist Magazine’s 90th Anniversary Challenge (to paint a city scene) \n\n\n\nHighly Commended – The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Art Competition \n\n\n\nFaso Boldbrush Merchandise Award – Women in Watercolour (US Int. SUMMARY:Images of Authority: Portraits Between Iran and Europe
DESCRIPTION:Images of Authority: Portraits Between Iran and Europe\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Images of Authority: Portraits Between Iran and Europe\n\n\n\nThis free exhibition examines the power of portraits in shaping the image of three contemporaneous rulers: Fath Ali Shah Qajar (1797–1834)\, King George III (1760–1820)\, and Napoleon Bonaparte (1799–1814)\, offering a fascinating reflection on the role of imagery in both personal and political life. \n\n\n\nJuxtaposing works on different media from Iran\, Britain\, and France\, the display reveals the strategies these leaders and their image-makers used to convey authority\, ambition\, and personality. \n\n\n\nFor the first time in over a century\, the exhibition also presents two recently restored Qajar paintings\, alongside insights from their conservation discoveries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking informatio\n\n\n\nPrices: \n\n\n\nFree \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nGallery 29 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelected artworks on display\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Seated Portrait of Fath Ali Shah of Iran retouched & conserved\, about 1798\, oil on canvas © Ashmolean Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Portrait of a setar player\, 1797–1798.
