SUMMARY:Rare Plant Fair at Adwell House
DESCRIPTION:Rare Plant Fair at Adwell House\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Rare Plant Fair at Adwell House\n\n\n\nSet on gently sloping ground below the Chiltern Hills\, Adwell House & Gardens is a historic private estate shaped over generations. Its name is thought to derive from the Saxon “Eadda’s Well”\, a reference to the natural springs that still feed the gardens today. \n\n\n\nVisitors are first greeted by a sweeping herbaceous border running alongside the drive\, before moving through a sequence of formal and informal garden spaces. The walled garden is a highlight\, combining structured herbaceous planting with roses and a notable collection of salvias. \n\n\n\nMature trees frame expansive lawns\, while a water garden — fed by natural springs — remains one of the estate’s defining features. The Parish Church sits within the grounds\, adding to the sense of a landscape shaped by centuries of use. \n\n\n\nThis year’s Rare Plant Fair brings together specialist growers and nurseries\, offering visitors the chance to buy unusual and collectable plants directly from experts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlights & Plant Focus\n\n\n\nA celebration of specialist horticulture\, with a strong emphasis on unusual perennials and seasonal planting inspiration. The estate’s own planting style — particularly its renowned salvia collection — provides a fitting backdrop for the fair. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFood & Drink\n\n\n\nA curated selection of street food and refreshments will be available throughout the day: \n\n\n\n\nPizza from The Wheatsheaf Kitchen\n\n\n\nIndian cuisine by Naan and Sizzle\n\n\n\nGourmet hot dogs by Jane Varney Catering\n\n\n\nCoffee from Emily’s Coffee\n\n\n\nBar service from The Tipsy Rover\n\n\n\nIce cream from Gino’s Ice Cream\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupporting a Good Cause\n\n\n\nAll proceeds from the fair will be donated to Perennial\, which supports people working in horticulture and their families during times of need. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy your tickets on arrival at the gate – no need to prebook! \n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\n\nBuy your tickets on arrival at the gate – no need to prebook!\n\n\n\nTickets cost £8 per adult and includes the Fair and Gardens.\n\n\n\nChildren under 16 enter for free.\n\n\n\nThere is ample parking is available in adjacent fields\, with signage directing arrivals. SUMMARY:St Giles’ Fair 2026
DESCRIPTION:St Giles’ Fair at Oxford City Centre\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout St Giles’ Fair 2026\n\n\n\nSt Giles’ Fair 2026 will take place on Monday 07 and Tuesday 08 September\, from 11.00am to 11.00pm on both days. \n\n\n\nSt Giles’ Fair is one of the greatest and most prestigious in the country. The fair dates back to 1625 when it was a parish festival to celebrate the feast of the patron saint\, St Giles\, and is held on the Monday and Tuesday following the first Sunday after St Giles’ Day (01 September). \n\n\n\nIn the 18th century\, it was a toy fair\, and then in the early 19th century\, it was a general children’s fair. The funfair grew during mid and late Victorian times when improved means of transport meant that large numbers of people could be brought into the city to attend the festivities. It was also when the forerunners of today’s rides were first developed following advances in mechanical engineering. \n\n\n\nNow run by Oxford City Council\, the St Giles’ fair is probably the largest of its kind in Europe taking up all of St Giles’ even Magdalen Street by Elliston and Cavell’s right up to and beyond the War Memorial\, at the meeting of the Woodstock and Banbury roads. \n\n\n\nThe street is closed to traffic on the two days in September for this traditional fair. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVideo montage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQs)\n\n\n\nWhen is the St Giles’ Fair in 2026?In 2025\, the St Giles’ Fair will take place on Monday 07 and Tuesday 08 September\, from 11.00am to 11.00pm on both days. The fair normally takes place on the first Monday and Tuesday after the first Sunday after St Giles’ Day (01 September). \n\n\n\nHow much does the St Giles fair cost?Attending the fair is free\, but the rides and amusements have their own individual costs. There will also be a plethora of street food\, snacks and treats on sale. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGallery\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nClick to expand
