DESCRIPTION:About September Street Fair 2026\n\n\n\nDon’t miss the annual Thame September Street Fair that transforms Thame’s High Street into a mini theme park with rides\, bumper cars and candyfloss for three days in September. \n\n\n\nThe fair starts on the third Thursday of September\, with the Mayor of Thame officially opening the event at 3.30pm. The funfair runs for three days until Saturday – attracting visitors well beyond Thame. \n\n\n\nA long-time tradition in the town\, punters head over to the funfair from surrounding towns and villages in Oxfordshire as well as the neighbouring Aylesbury and surrounding Buckinghamshire area. \n\n\n\nVisitors can expect a host of different carnival-like entertainment. From massive fairground theme park rides to candy floss stalls\, halls of mirrors and dodgems. \n\n\n\nThe fair runs across the entire high street of Thame. This will fall on Monday 05 and Tuesday 06 October 2026. \n\n\n\nThe Michaelmas Fair is the longest street fair in Europe\, running from Market Place\, through the High Street\, The Square and the entire length of Ock Street. \n\n\n\nThis historic street fair has its origins in the shortage of labour following the Black Death of 1348/9. The Fair was a hiring fair\, the equivalent of today’s employment agencies and online job websites. \n\n\n\nThe Michaelmas Fair starts setting up on Sunday\, after which there are road closures and diversions to enable the traditional street fair to take place. DESCRIPTION:About Banbury Michaelmas Fair 2026\n\n\n\nThe Banbury Michaelmas Fair 2025 will take place from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 October 2026 across Horsefair\, North Bar\, Market Place\, and Bridge Street in Banbury Town Centre. The fair will open from 3.00pm to 11.00pm on Wednesday\, Thursday\, and Friday\, and from noon to 9.00pm on the Sunday. \n\n\n\nThe Banbury Michaelmas fair has been a fixture of the life of the town for hundreds of years. The annual attraction will run as a four day event this year\, thanks to a one year trial being agreed with the council following a request from the funfair organisers. \n\n\n\nThe fair was a hiring fair\, the equivalent of today’s employment agencies and online job websites. During what used to be known as the Mop Fair\, local tradesmen\, craftsmen\, labourers\, farmers and servants came into town to look for new employment. \n\n\n\nBack in those days\, seasonal employment ran from October to October\, so everyone came into town with high hopes of gaining a new employer and securing their income for the year ahead. \n\n\n\nIn keeping with a tradition that dates back centuries\, the Town Mayor will join the Chairman of Cherwell District Council to open proceedings in front of the Town Hall. He\, or she\, will touch a ‘Golden Key’ against certain attractions to grant free rides for attending children.

Long established as a platform for open dialogue\, it champions free expression and welcomes speakers from every background\, faith\, field and tradition. \n\n\n\nOver the years\, the festival has hosted Nobel\, Booker and Pulitzer Prize winners\, former world leaders\, pioneering scientists\, political thinkers\, environmentalists\, philosophers\, artists and writers from around the world. \n\n\n\nIt also curates a series of international programmes\, shining a spotlight on the literature and culture of nations and regions including India\, Africa\, the USA\, Ireland\, Spain\, Italy and China. Oxford’s richly multicultural character provides an ideal setting for this global exchange of ideas. \n\n\n\nWhile the dates for 2027 have been confirmed\, the event details below relate to the 2026 festival and are provided as a guide to the event and its programme. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFestival hub\n\n\n\nBlackwell Hall at the Weston Library will once again become the beating heart of the festival. The space will feature a dedicated festival bookshop run by Blackwell’s\, alongside the ever-popular café\, comfortable seating areas and access to free Bodleian exhibitions. Visitors can browse books\, meet friends between events and soak up the festival atmosphere. \n\n\n\nTicket holders can also enjoy 10% off in the Bodleian Libraries gift shops (exclusions apply). An information desk will be available in the hall for enquiries\, while last-minute tickets can be purchased at event doors (card only)\, online or by phone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenues\n\n\n\nEvents take place across a range of iconic Oxford venues\, including the Sheldonian Theatre\, the Bodleian Library\, the Weston Library\, Worcester College\, Trinity College\, St John’s College\, Exeter College\, Lincoln College\, Pusey House and the Oxford Martin School. Chiltern Railways’ service from London Marylebone and High Wycombe terminates in the centre of Oxford. Worcester College is a ten-minute walk from the central station\, and Blackwell’s Marquee is a 20-minute walk. There is a taxi rank at the station. \n\n\n\nBy coachThere are two fast and frequent coach services to Oxford from London (the X90 and the Oxford Tube)\, with departures up to every 15 minutes. In Oxford\, festival-goers can alight at High Street stops and walk a few minutes to the festival venues. The coach station at Gloucester Green is a five-minute walk from Worcester College and a ten-minute walk from the Blackwell’s Marquee. \n\n\n\nBy carStreet parking is extremely limited in Oxford. There are car parks at the Westgate Shopping Centre\, Gloucester Street and Worcester Street\, all within a 10-minute walk of festival venues. Oxford is well served by regular bus services from several Park & Rides sites located around the city perimeter. \n\n\n\nBlue badge parkingFor events at the Bodleian Library\, Weston Library\, Lincoln College\, Oxford Martin School and the Sheldonian Theatre\, disabled badge holder designated parking is available on Broad Street. For The Story Museum\, disabled badge holder designated parking is available in St Aldate’s. Designated parking is available in Beaumont Street for Worcester College and the Ashmolean\, and in St Giles for St Cross College. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccessibility\n\n\n\nAll main festival venues are accessible\, and many provide hearing loops. DESCRIPTION:Thames Traditional Boat Festival\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Thames Traditional Boat Festival 2027\n\n\n\nMarking the 86th Anniversary of Operation Dynamo year we salute the “Little Ships” on their return from Dunkirk \n\n\n\nThe 47th Thames Traditional Boat Festival \n\n\n\nThe Thames Traditional Boat Festival was first held at Fawley Meadows in 1978 as a rally for like minded enthusiasts who wanted to show off their enthusiasm for the older\, traditionally built craft that were fast disappearing from the river Thames. \n\n\n\nFrom these small beginnings the TTBR\, or “The Trad” as it became known\, has flourished to the extent that it now attracts interest the world over. \n\n\n\nThis prestigious event\, re-born in 2015 as the Thames Traditional Boat Festival\, whilst keeping faith with the precepts of its founding fathers\, now incorporates the traditional values of many other traditional trades and crafts\, as well as providing a fun day out for all the family.  \n\n\n\nAnother exciting and fun day out or maybe even a weekend for the whole family\, celebrating the best in British boatbuilding and craftsmanship\, evoking the nostalgia of boating from a bygone era. \n\n\n\nThis popular\, long-running event\, now offers more attractions on the water\, in the air and on the land\, than ever before.  \n\n\n\nFeaturing the largest fleet of Dunkirk “Little Ships” ever to attend the Trad and the largest display of traditional boats in Europe\, amphibious and military vehicles\, aircraft and much more. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Schedule\n\n\n\nEach full-on festival day starts at 10.00am with welcome and safety announcements and runs until 6.00pm.
