SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club
DESCRIPTION:A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club\n\n\n\nWritten by Charles DickensAdapted by David EdgarDirected by Susi Dalton \n\n\n\nJoin Abingdon Drama Club for a ghostly Christmas night as cold-hearted businessman Ebenezer Scrooge (Adam Blake) faces the fright of his life\, uncovers the truth about himself\, and learns to love his neighbour. \n\n\n\nThis adaptation by David Edgar of Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol reawakens the social conscience of this timeless tale. Through time jumps\, we witness Scrooge’s past\, explore the present around him\, and confront the shocking future that awaits. \n\n\n\nAll the beloved characters are present\, with a unique twist that delves into the parliamentary reports of the 1840s on issues like abolishing rotten boroughs and establishing workhouses\, highlighting Dickens’ keen awareness of societal issues. \n\n\n\nDirected by the talented Susi Dalton\, this clever and engaging adaptation is brought to life on the Unicorn stage by Abingdon Drama Club. Edgar has reinvented this quintessentially Victorian story\, featuring Dickens himself (Terry Atkinson) narrating alongside his editor and friend\, John Forster (Kieran Madden). \n\n\n\nThe play opens with Dickens grappling to write another book on poverty and child labour\, as Forster suggests this may be too grim for a Christmas audience. Together\, they construct the narrative before our eyes\, offering a fascinating insight into Dickens’ creative process. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this enchanting performance\, marking the final production in ADC’s 80th Anniversary year! \n\n\n\n“I love exploring different interpretations of well-known classics. I previously directed another unique version of A Christmas Carol\, and I chose David Edgar’s adaptation to embrace new challenges and enrich the original story we all cherish.” \n\n\n\n“I’m excited to direct this version with our wonderful actors\, confident that together we will create a memorable production for Abingdon Drama Club.” —Susi Dalton \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Standard price – £12.00\,Concessions – £10.00 (65+\, under 19\, students\, ADC/ODN members\, Group bookings of 10+ tickets) \n\n\n\n\nFor groups of 10 and over\, simply select the concession rate tickets and choose the required number of thickets.\n\n\n\nAll tickets are sold as UNRESERVED SEATING.\n\n\n\nThe Front of House team will do their very best to seat people together\, but please arrive in good time\, or this may not be possible.\n\n\n\nTickets are also available from The Bookstore\, The Abingdon Precinct\, 15 Bury Street\, Abingdon.\n\n\n\n\nDates & times:Wednesday 27 November at 7.30pmThursday 28 November at 7.30pmFriday 29 November at 7.30pmSaturday 30 November at 2.30pm and 7.30pm
