SUMMARY:Saria Callas
DESCRIPTION:Saria Callas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Saria Callas\n\n\n\nPerformed by Seemia Theatre \n\n\n\nSaria Callas is a bold\, multimedia play from former OP Evolve Artists about aspiring to be a singer while growing up in a place where it is forbidden for women to sing. \n\n\n\nAlready a bottle of red in\, Saria reminisces about her experiences of childhood to womanhood. We revisit Tehran\, the schoolbus parties\, the wannabe prayer-caller and the secret acts of rebellion at the all-girls’ school. \n\n\n\n‘Did I get used to oppression\, or is music my way of fighting?’ \n\n\n\nNow Saria stands at a crossroads with her child. How does a woman who has experienced firsthand repression of her body and voice react as her child struggles with their own gender identity? \n\n\n\nThis sexy\, camp\, pop-filled play highlights an often unheard perspective of the supportive parent\, unpacking the intersectional grey area of what life is like for women. \n\n\n\nSaria Callas was commissioned by Camden People’s Theatre’s Starting Blocks and was originally co-presented with A Play\, A Pie and A Pint. \n\n\n\nDevised with support from Oxford Playhouse as part of EVOLVE and public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“A haunting reminder of freedoms denied – and the fight still unfinished.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nMy Goddess Complex \n\n\n\n\n\n“Amini holds the space with total command. With absolute heart and soul\, this is storytelling that’s bold\, raw\, and unforgettable.” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nAll that Dazzles \n\n\n\n\n\n“Sara Amini is delightful in a production that’s as much rebellion as entertainment.” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nPlease Mind the Blog \n\n\n\n\n\n“Seriously funny delivery. Amini is a first-class performer!” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nLondon Theatre1 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £12.00 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 16 September 2026 at 7.30 pm \n\n\n\nThursday 17 September 2026 at 7.30 pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nBurton Taylor Studio \n\n\n\nAge guidance:  \n\n\n\n14+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.
