SUMMARY:Terence Rattigan’s In Praise of Love
DESCRIPTION:Terence Rattigan’s In Praise of Love\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Terence Rattigan’s In Praise of Love\n\n\n\nAn Oxford Playhouse Production  \n\n\n\nDirected by Oxford Playhouse Artistic Director Mike Tweddle   \n\n\n\nWhat if silence is the greatest proof of love? \n\n\n\nWitty\, poignant and exquisitely observed\, Terence Rattigan’s In Praise of Love is a profound portrait of a family facing up to the truth. Written with Rattigan’s characteristic emotional precision\, it asks how far we’ll go to protect the people we love the most.  \n\n\n\n1970s London. Celebrated literary critic Sebastian and his wife Lydia\, a refugee from wartime Estonia\, present a picture of a tired marriage. When an old friend arrives and their son starts questioning their motives\, a carefully maintained web of loyalty and deception begins to unravel.  \n\n\n\nFollowing the critically acclaimed Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?\, Oxford Playhouse is proud to produce this landmark drama for Spring 2027. \n\n\n\nDirected by Artistic Director Mike Tweddle and marking the 50th anniversary of the playwright’s death\, this is an opportunity to see Rattigan’s rarely performed\, penultimate play brought vividly to life. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Mike Tweddle’s visionary production” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nWhat’s on Stage   \n\n\n\n\n\n“An astonishing piece of unmissable stagecraft” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe Reviews Hub  \n\n\n\n\n\n“A definite must-see masterpiece” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nTheatre & Arts Reviews \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nPriority booking opens Friday 04 September at 12.00pm \n\n\n\nPublic booking opens Friday 11 September at 12.00pm \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 13 February to Saturday 06 March 2027 \n\n\n\nSaturday 13 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nMonday 15 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nTuesday 16 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nWednesday 17 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nThursday 18 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nFriday 19 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday 20 February 2027 at 2.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday 20 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nTuesday 23 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nWednesday 24 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nThursday 25 February 2027 at 2.30pm \n\n\n\nThursday 25 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nFriday 26 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday 27 February 2027 at 2.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday 27 February 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nTuesday 02 March 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nWednesday 03 March 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nThursday 04 March 2027 at 2.30pm \n\n\n\nThursday 04 March 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nFriday 05 March 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday 06 March 2027 at 2.30pm \n\n\n\nSaturday 06 March 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance:  \n\n\n\n14+ \n\n\n\nContent guidance: \n\n\n\nThis show contains discussion of terminal illness and death\, the Holocaust\, forced migration\, racist language\, strong language and representation of alcohol consumption. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.
