SUMMARY:The Waste Land: An Evening of T.S. Eliot
DESCRIPTION:The Waste Land: An Evening of T.S. Eliot\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Waste Land: An Evening of T.S. Eliot\n\n\n\nThe Waste Land\, probably T.S. Eliot’s most famous poem\, was published in 1922. Rich in classical and cultural references\, it is often seen as a response to the devastation of the First World War. \n\n\n\nYet beneath its haunting imagery lie wit\, humanity and a surprising sense of hope. \n\n\n\nThis special event offers a contextual introduction to both the poem and its creator\, providing an engaging guide to one of the most influential and enduring works of modern literature. \n\n\n\nAcclaimed actor Nathaniel Parker will perform The Waste Land alongside Eliot’s celebrated The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Reflecting on the work\, Nathaniel was lucky enough to read The Waste Land at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and fell in love with it. \n\n\n\nA passionate advocate for poetry\, he regularly shares readings with audiences through his popular Instagram account. \n\n\n\nThe performance is directed by Giles Taylor\, actor\, director\, author and classicist. \n\n\n\nHaving worked alongside Nathaniel on stages from Stratford and Chichester to London and Broadway\, Giles will guide audiences through the poem’s many layers\, illuminating the references\, themes and ideas that continue to fascinate readers more than a century after its publication. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nOnline booking for this event opens at 12.00pm on Friday 11 September 2026. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 18 March 2027 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance:  \n\n\n\n12+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.
