SUMMARY:Summer 1954 - Table Number 7 & The Browning Version
DESCRIPTION:Summer 1954 – Table Number 7 & The Browning Version\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Summer 1954 – Table Number 7 & The Browning Version\n\n\n\nWritten by Terence Rattigan \n\n\n\nDirected by James Dacre \n\n\n\nStarring Nathaniel Parker and Dame Siân Phillips \n\n\n\nSummer\, 1954. \n\n\n\nThe atmosphere at The Beauregard Private Hotel\, Bournemouth\, is marked by a blend of repressed emotions and post-war gentility. Each of the staff and guests has their own reason for seeking the solace of quiet anonymity but trying to hide from the social and cultural change sweeping over the country is proving impossible. \n\n\n\nMeanwhile\, in the heart of the Midlands\, the end of the school term brings to a climax the intrigues\, deceptions\, and lies in the lives of its teachers. The ensuing implosion of classicist Andrew Crocker Harris’s career triggers the collapse of his marriage. \n\n\n\nBritain is changing. Nothing will ever be the same again. \n\n\n\nTerence Rattigan’s one-act masterpieces Table Number Seven (from Separate Tables) and The Browning Version are paired for the first time\, capturing one quietly momentous evening seventy years ago. Together\, they confirm Rattigan as one of the great 20th-century chroniclers of the paradoxes of the human heart. \n\n\n\nDirected by Olivier and UK Theatre Award winner James Dacre(Four Quartets\, The Two Popes and Blue/Orange)\, an ensemble cast will perform both plays\, led by Olivier Award winner Nathaniel Parker and BAFTA winner Dame Siân Phillips. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“A fine production… a handsome double-bill. Immaculately paced by James Dacre”. ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe Guardian \n\n\n\n\n\n“Excellent performances from a strong cast”. ★★★★ \n\n\n\nStage Talk Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n£14.00 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices:From £14.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times:Tuesday 11 February at 7.30pmWednesday 12 February at 7.30pmThursday 13 February at 2.30pm & 7.30pm (Captioned)Friday 14 February at 8.00pmSaturday 15 February at 2.30pm (Audio Described\, Touch Tour) & 7.30pm \n\n\n\nInterval:This show includes an interval \n\n\n\nAge Guidance:12+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Fagin’s Last Hour
DESCRIPTION:Fagin’s Last Hour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Fagin’s Last Hour\n\n\n\nCharles Dickens’ dark tale of crime and punishment is stunningly re-imagined in this multi-award-winning stage adaptation\, recognised by Queen Elizabeth II for its part in Dickensian scholarship. \n\n\n\nTold from the point of view of Fagin\, one hour before his execution\, this unique and powerful one-man show offers a fresh insight into literature’s most controversial villain. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“James Hyland has a powerful ability to portray numerous characters… When one actor can emulate an entire cast\, that is a powerful thing!… His acting was raw\, honest\, and profound. This was a brilliantly executed re-imagining of Charles Dickens’s tale” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nKashmini Shah\, Voice Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n“With his sheer physical presence\, Hyland’s Fagin is more than just the devious and pathetic wretch we are so familiar with\, he’s also dangerously threatening… Intense\, provocative and often downright scary” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nSimon Ball\, Simon’s Horrible Hothouse of Horror \n\n\n\n\n\n“Compelling throughout. Hyland’s presentation exploits his vocal range and his extreme athleticism… He has an uncanny ability to convince every member of an audience seated on two adjacent sides of a square auditorium that he is addressing them personally… do try to see his performance. You won’t forget it” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nTom Aitken\, Plays To See \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices:From £18.00 \n\n\n\nMembers:£15.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times:Thursday 06 February 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance12+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Mill Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre is the cultural hub for Banbury and the surrounding area. \n\n\n\nAs the only dedicated arts provision in the area\, it aims to inspire creativity and enrich the lives of the communities by providing a high-quality\, varied artistic\, educational and participatory programme. \n\n\n\nIt plays a significant role in the town’s cultural\, social and economic development by offering the community the chance to engage with and be entertained by several art forms. \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre offers an exciting live events programme\, including theatre\, dance\, music\, comedy\, film\, workshops and classes. Filming is delayed… again. The lead actors – theatre veteran Robert Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider – are crammed into a too-small boat\, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. \n\n\n\nAlcohol flows\, egos collide\, and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic… if it doesn’t sink them all. \n\n\n\nStep aboard the Orca and into The Shark is Broken\, a “profound dive behind the scenes of the making of Jaws” (The Daily Telegraph\, ★★★★). This Olivier Award-nominated new play is “hilariously brilliant and pure genius” raves the Sunday Express (★★★★★) and stars Ian Shaw (War Horse\, Common) as his father\, Robert Shaw. \n\n\n\nShort tempers. SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club
DESCRIPTION:A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout A Christmas Carol by Abingdon Drama Club\n\n\n\nWritten by Charles DickensAdapted by David EdgarDirected by Susi Dalton \n\n\n\nJoin Abingdon Drama Club for a ghostly Christmas night as cold-hearted businessman Ebenezer Scrooge (Adam Blake) faces the fright of his life\, uncovers the truth about himself\, and learns to love his neighbour. \n\n\n\nThis adaptation by David Edgar of Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol reawakens the social conscience of this timeless tale. Through time jumps\, we witness Scrooge’s past\, explore the present around him\, and confront the shocking future that awaits. \n\n\n\nAll the beloved characters are present\, with a unique twist that delves into the parliamentary reports of the 1840s on issues like abolishing rotten boroughs and establishing workhouses\, highlighting Dickens’ keen awareness of societal issues. \n\n\n\nDirected by the talented Susi Dalton\, this clever and engaging adaptation is brought to life on the Unicorn stage by Abingdon Drama Club. Edgar has reinvented this quintessentially Victorian story\, featuring Dickens himself (Terry Atkinson) narrating alongside his editor and friend\, John Forster (Kieran Madden). \n\n\n\nThe play opens with Dickens grappling to write another book on poverty and child labour\, as Forster suggests this may be too grim for a Christmas audience. Together\, they construct the narrative before our eyes\, offering a fascinating insight into Dickens’ creative process. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this enchanting performance\, marking the final production in ADC’s 80th Anniversary year! \n\n\n\n“I love exploring different interpretations of well-known classics. I previously directed another unique version of A Christmas Carol\, and I chose David Edgar’s adaptation to embrace new challenges and enrich the original story we all cherish.” \n\n\n\n“I’m excited to direct this version with our wonderful actors\, confident that together we will create a memorable production for Abingdon Drama Club.” —Susi Dalton \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Standard price – £12.00\,Concessions – £10.00 (65+\, under 19\, students\, ADC/ODN members\, Group bookings of 10+ tickets) \n\n\n\n\nFor groups of 10 and over\, simply select the concession rate tickets and choose the required number of thickets.\n\n\n\nAll tickets are sold as UNRESERVED SEATING.\n\n\n\nThe Front of House team will do their very best to seat people together\, but please arrive in good time\, or this may not be possible.\n\n\n\nTickets are also available from The Bookstore\, The Abingdon Precinct\, 15 Bury Street\, Abingdon.\n\n\n\n\nDates & times:Wednesday 27 November at 7.30pmThursday 28 November at 7.30pmFriday 29 November at 7.30pmSaturday 30 November at 2.30pm and 7.30pm

SUMMARY:The Odyssiad
DESCRIPTION:The Odyssiad\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Odyssiad\n\n\n\nBy Alex Thomas \n\n\n\nA Magdalen College School Drama Production \n\n\n\n1200 BC. A woman waits and watches the sea from a clifftop. She is Penelope\, the wife of Odysseus\, who has yet to return from the Trojan War after ten years. Their son\, Telemachus\, wonders whether he will ever be able to fill his legendary father’s place. \n\n\n\n1902. A young Cambridge student\, Winifred Kennedy\, digs in the ruins of Mycenae\, the heartland of ancient Greece\, under the stern and watchful eye of archaeologist Henry Allen. Teddy\, his son\, loathes everything about the ancient world\, so Winifred takes it upon herself to bring the past alive for him\, drawing father and son closer together. \n\n\n\nHer vivid story-telling takes us back three thousand years to the epic world of Homer’s immortal tales\, The Iliad and The Odyssey\, where great warriors clash in single combat\, and a city’s fate hangs in the balance. Odysseus’s perilous journey home after the war is one of the greatest adventure stories ever told. \n\n\n\nWith a powerful rock-inspired musical score\, including original songs and electrifying choreography\, this new telling of the Homeric epics is a true spectacle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nDates & times:Thursday 27 June at 7.00pmFriday 28 June at 7.00pmSaturday 29 June at 2.30pm and 7.00pm \n\n\n\nPrices:Adult – 16.00Child – £11.00 \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 7+ \n\n\n\nDuration: 120 munites\, including an interval. \n\n\n\nContent warning:This show contains violence (within the context of battle)\, strobe lighting\, gunshots and smoking. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry.

SUMMARY:Where Is Mrs Christie
DESCRIPTION:Where Is Mrs Christie?\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Where Is Mrs Christie\n\n\n\nAgatha Christie was one of the greatest thriller writers of all time and certainly the most prolific. \n\n\n\nIn 1926\, she was at the centre of a mystery as perplexing as any of her fiction\, a series of events which sparked one of the biggest and most extensive police hunts in history. \n\n\n\nHer crashed car was discovered in Surrey\, and the famous author was missing\, presumed dead by many\, for eleven days. However\, she was eventually found at a luxury hotel in Harrogate. \n\n\n\nShe claimed then\, and for the rest of her life\, that she was suffering from amnesia and remembered nothing. Neither the press nor the police believed her. \n\n\n\nActor Liz Grand presents her one-woman show ‘Where Is Mrs Christie?’ Did she suffer from amnesia? Was it a publicity stunt? Or was there a darker secret involved? In true thriller style\, all will be revealed. \n\n\n\n“Liz Grand’s performance in the title role is compelling. So persuasive is she that we the audience become co-conspirators. \n\n\n\n“Her Mrs. Christie is irresistibly engaging\, vulnerable\, confiding and ultimately indomitable in her strength of spirit. \n\n\n\n“It is a master-class in nuanced delivery and dramatic timing\, deliberately tantalising …. and designed for spot-on period fidelity.” The Stage \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n★★★★★ “Chris Jaeger’s roller-coaster account of the mysterious disappearance of the high priestess of mystery is a gripping piece of theatre\, with Liz Grand bringing his words to life with a stunning portrayal of a woman who\, for once\, seems to have temporarily lost the plot.” \nWorcester News\n\n\n\n\n★★★★★ “The success (of the show) rests on the shoulders of a single person\, and Liz Grand was superb in the role\, creating a totally believable and likeable character.” \nChoice Radio\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices include a £1.00 Restoration Levy\, a £1.25 Booking Fee and a 25p Community Fund Levy. \n\n\n\nRunning time: 1 hour 30 minutes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Kenton Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nSituated in the centre of Henley-on-Thames\, the Kenton Theatre is the fourth-oldest working theatre in the UK and a registered charity.
