SUMMARY:Liz Gascoigne & Vivien Shelton: Unearthed
DESCRIPTION:Unearthed exhibition by Liz Gascoigne & Vivien Shelton\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Liz Gascoigne & Vivien Shelton: Unearthed\n\n\n\nExploration and distinctive outcomes underpin the artwork of Liz Gascoigne and Vivien Shelton. \n\n\n\nLiz enjoys incorporating the shapes of abandoned stoneware with fragments juxtaposed. \n\n\n\nVivien shares a similar visual language of flowing shapes\, muted palette and the interplay of line. Both artists embrace texture and love what is revealed beneath the surface. \n\n\n\nLiz Gascoigne is an abstract expressionist. Her paintings consist of layering\, mixed media and emerging motifs. Liz starts painting without an intention and lets the process lead the way. Sometimes her painting becomes an abstract landscape or has a sense of place. \n\n\n\nMostly\, the outcome includes an element of realism such as hints of a figure\, a sculpted shape\, a ceramic outline or vegetal semi-natural imagery. This serendipitous approach brings total freedom\, as a painting reveals when it is complete\, the point when it is unearthed. \n\n\n\nVivien Shelton is a ceramicist working in central Oxford. From a small workshop in her garden\, Vivien makes all her work by hand\, using ancient techniques including pinching\, coiling and slab building; a slow but very satisfying process. \n\n\n\nKeeping within a limited colour palette\, Vivien likes to explore ideas of shape\, texture\, flowing lines and ultimately the landscapes or tableaux created when the work comes together and the individual piece becomes part of the whole. \n\n\n\nSpecial Opening for Ceramics Oxford \n\n\n\nSunday 01 November from 12pm to 4.00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFree entry \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 21 October to Saturday 07 November 2026 from 10am to 4.00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGallery\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:Iphigenia at Aulis
DESCRIPTION:Iphigenia at Aulis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Iphigenia at Aulis\n\n\n\nPresented by Oxford Classical Drama Society \n\n\n\nBy Euripides \n\n\n\nIn a new English translation by Alexander Lafferty\, Evelyn Watterson\, and Nathaniel Denton \n\n\n\nDirected by Wally McCabe with Kelly Yu \n\n\n\nTo spill blood for his nation\, a father is called to first sacrifice his own. \n\n\n\nThe infamous “thousand ships” of the Greek armada muster in the port town of Aulis\, all set to reclaim Helen from the Trojans. Yet the winds refuse to blow. \n\n\n\nAfter weeks of waiting\, their prophet divines the cause: for hunting her sacred deer\, the goddess Artemis has taken ire against Lord Agamemnon\, commander of the fleets. \n\n\n\nShould the Greeks wish to sail to Troy\, she demands the blood of a virgin at her altar. Agamemnon sends for his wife. And requests she brings their young\, unwed daughter. \n\n\n\nTwo and a half thousand years on\, Iphigenia at Aulis presents one of the most psychologically wrought tales from ancient myth\, and asks: how can any of us – a father\, a citizen\, a nation – come to justify acts of violence – to others\, to ourselves? \n\n\n\nThis year’s production of the Oxford triennial Greek Play places Euripides’s final tragedy in a Celtic world. \n\n\n\nExpect a tartan-clad Achilles\, Greek generals in Irish saffron\, and a chorus dancing to flutes and fiddles\, with live accompaniment from a traditional céilí band performing an original score by University of Oxford music student Peter Hardisty. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £5.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 04 to Saturday 07 November 2026 \n\n\n\nWednesday and Friday at 7.30 pm \n\n\n\nThursday and Saturday at 2.30 pm and 7.30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.
