DESCRIPTION:When the Blackbird Sings\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout When the Blackbird Sings\n\n\n\nAn immersive\, eye-opening\, heart-stirring journey through time. \n\n\n\nDirected by Erica Whyman and written by Natty Mark Samuels\, Helen Eastman\, and Afsaneh Gray. \n\n\n\nThis is the story of Paulette\, who was born in Jamaica\, crossed an ocean to expand her horizons and now\, in 1966\, she is determined to change the world. She hopes you will come along for the ride. \n\n\n\nJoin ‘When the Blackbird Sings’ in Blackbird Leys for a warm welcome and the start of a glorious odyssey through the city of Oxford. You will meet remarkable pioneers\, passionate changemakers\, a patron saint and fellow humans simply trying to survive.  \n\n\n\nYou will be invited to hop aboard a bus to travel back to the 8th Century and forward to the 21st on a quest to find ancestors on whose shoulders Paulette can stand.  \n\n\n\nThe journey will end at the new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities\, with truth in our mouths and hope in our hearts. \n\n\n\nBefore You Arrive \n\n\n\nThis is a promenade production\, meaning the performance takes place across several locations in Oxford. Audience members will travel between locations primarily by bus\, with one short walking section of approximately 0.75 kilometres. \n\n\n\nThe performance begins in Blackbird Leys\, the starting venue is to be confirmed. Here tickets will be checked on arrival before the show begins. \n\n\n\nPlease avoid bringing large or heavy bags with you. The performance will last 2.5 hours and there will be some drinks and snacks incorporated. \n\n\n\nDuring the Performance \n\n\n\nOnce the show begins in Blackbird Leys\, audience members will board a bus which forms part of the performance itself. The route travels through Temple Cowley\, Cowley and into Oxford city centre. \n\n\n\nAll audience members will have a seat on the bus\, and headphones will be provided so you can hear the performers clearly throughout the journey. \n\n\n\nWhile everything possible will be done to keep the performance running to schedule\, there may occasionally be slight variations to timings due to traffic conditions on Oxford’s roads. \n\n\n\nThe bus will stop on Oxford High Street for a short walking section of the production. One of the locations visited during this section is a faith building (a church). After this\, audiences will reboard the bus for the final journey north along Woodstock Road to the Schwarzman Centre (OX2 6GG)\, where the performance concludes. \n\n\n\nAfter the Show \n\n\n\nAt the end of the performance\, you are welcome to leave directly from the Schwarzman Centre. \n\n\n\nFor anyone who has parked a car or left a bicycle at the starting point\, there will also be the option to take the bus back to Blackbird Leys after the show. It will be ensured that you can return easily to where you began your journey! This is not include in the running time of the show. \n\n\n\nAccessibility \n\n\n\nIf you have any access requirements\, please contact the box office in advance to discuss your needs. The starting venue will be announced soon and communicated to all bookers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n\n\nSchwarzman Centre for the Humanities is a major new cultural and academic landmark for the University of Oxford\, bringing together seven humanities faculties with performance\, exhibition\, and public engagement spaces under one roof. Located in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter\, it is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration while opening the humanities to a wider public through events\, performances\, and year-round programming. \n\n\n\nAt its heart are world-class venues including a concert hall\, theatre\, cinema\, recital spaces\, and galleries\, supported by flexible teaching and meeting facilities. A central atrium acts as a social hub\, blending academic life with informal gathering spaces\, cafés\, and exhibitions. DESCRIPTION:Museum of Oxford Walks: Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford Walks: Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals\n\n\n\nOxford University is well known as a bastion of tradition and a training ground for future Prime Ministers\, but how much do you know about the city’s radical past and present? \n\n\n\nOn this two-hour circular walking tour\, you will hear about epic ‘town vs gown’ riots\, fiercely independent medieval women\, determined but doomed Levellers\, acid-sprinkling Suffragettes and the locals who kicked fascists out of the city for good. \n\n\n\nFrom Oscar Wilde\, through Oxfam\, to Rhodes Must Fall\, this tour tells the fascinating and inspiring stories of those who have pushed back against power\, privilege\, colonialism and discrimination throughout Oxford’s thousand-year history. \n\n\n\nThis tour aims to tell the forgotten stories of Oxford’s radicals\, and to spark respectful debate and discussion. Please come prepared to listen and engage. \n\n\n\nAs part of the tour\, you will see: Carfax Tower\, the site of an infamous riot; Gloucester Green\, where Oliver Cromwell crushed Britain’s first great egalitarian movement; All Souls College\, whose library was funded by a slave owner; University Church gardens where a bench is dedicated to one of Oxford’s most determined campaigners for women’s education – plus more locations from Oxford’s rebellious history.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that this tour does not include entry into any buildings and stops may be subject to change. \n\n\n\nJoin a tour of Oxford’s Rebels and Radicals to see Oxford through the eyes of an expert and unlock the secrets of its radical history. \n\n\n\nAccessibility and further information \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Museum of Oxford shop (located inside the Oxford Town Hall). The walk includes a few steps down to the University Church gardens; a step-free option is also available here. She loves sharing her enthusiasm for the extraordinary history\, culture and people who have shaped our city of dreaming spires. Before becoming a tour guide\, she was a campaigner\, journalist\, activist and theatre-maker working on social and climate justice issues. This experience has led to a fascination with the social\, political and imaginative role that Oxford has played – both good and bad – in the wider history of Britain\, and the world. \n\n\n\nAccess at the Museum \n\n\n\nThe Museum is accessible for wheelchair users\, buggies\, and baby carriers. There is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum\, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift and lift to the basement level.
