SUMMARY:NEXT HOT SPUD: REHEATED
DESCRIPTION:NEXT HOT SPUD: REHEATED \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout NEXT HOT SPUD: REHEATED \n\n\n\nOxford’s biggest and boldest queer competition is back and this year\, the spuds are sizzling hotter than ever! \n\n\n\nNow entering its third sensational season\, Oxford’s Next Hot SPUD has become a cornerstone of the city’s queer cultural calendar\, showcasing an extraordinary range of talent from drag\, comedy\, burlesque\, live art\, and everything in between. \n\n\n\nHosted by the incomparable Vudejai\, whose razor-sharp wit and irresistible charm keep audiences on their toes\, Reheated promises to be the most ambitious and unpredictable yet. \n\n\n\nGuiding the competition are this year’s stellar judges: Cairo Iman Ali returns as Head Judge\, joined by the ever-radiant Sera Tonin and two of Oxford’s reigning queer royalty — previous winners. \n\n\n\nWhat began as a grassroots drag contest has now evolved into a fully-fledged queer spectacle — a joyous\, inclusive celebration of artistry and identity. SUMMARY:A Beautiful Thread
DESCRIPTION:A Beautiful Thread \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout A Beautiful Thread \n\n\n\nPresented by Hambletts \n\n\n\nStarring Anton Lesser \n\n\n\nIn A Beautiful Thread\, Oxford Playhouse favourite\, Anton Lesser (Endeavour\, Wolf Hall\, Game of Thrones) tells the story of Thomas Hardy’s life – as dramatic as any of his books – in Hardy’s own words\, through his sublime poetry\, letters\, and great novels\, including Far From the Madding Crowd\, Tess of the d’Urbervilles\, and Jude the Obscure. \n\n\n\nAnton Lesser and Lucia Bonbright bring a hugely varied cast to dazzling life: from Hardy’s immortal characters\, Hardy himself\, his mother\, Jemima and wives\, Emma and Florence\, to George Bernard Shaw and Virginia Woolf! \n\n\n\nThe show highlights Hardy’s humour (often overlooked!)\, his modernity\, the astonishing time-span he lived through\, and his global reach\, from Japan to Hollywood. Adapted by Deirdre Shields\, Hardy’s extraordinary writing shines bright as ever. \n\n\n\nThomas Hardy put more music in his novels than any other writer\, and Orchestra of the Swan’s Artistic Director\, David Le Page has devised a musical programme of shimmering beauty that weaves around the words\, from classical music to contemporary folk\, performed live by on-stage musicians from Orchestra of the Swan. \n\n\n\nFrom Hambletts\, the creative team that brought Red Sky at Sunrise: Laurie Lee in Words and Music to Oxford Playhouse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Superb!” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nBroadway World \n\n\n\n\n\n“I’m delighted to be returning to Oxford! Words and Music is a kind of unique genre\, neither pure reading\, nor acting\, but with an immediacy that comes from the huge emotional impact the music has upon the words\, and vice versa\, and the interplay we actors enjoy with the musicians on-stage. Quite simply\, it’s the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever done!” \n\n\n\nAnton Lesser (Endeavour\, Wolf Hall\, Andor\, Game of Thrones) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£16.00 to £36.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 26 May 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\nThis show has an interval \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n14+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:The General Strike in Oxford
DESCRIPTION:The General Strike in Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The General Strike in Oxford\n\n\n\n2026 marks 100 years since the General Strike. The only General Strike in UK history\, it saw three million workers walk out between 04 to 12 May 1926. \n\n\n\nAmong these millions were workers in Oxford: railway\, print and building workers. They walked out in solidarity with miners facing a wage cut and a longer working day. Their actions brought areas of the city to a standstill. \n\n\n\nIn 1984-85\, thousands of miners went on strike over proposed pit closures. The year-long strike was sustained in part by solidarity efforts across the country. In Oxford\, despite geographical distance from the coalmining heartlands\, collective efforts generated extraordinary support for striking miners. \n\n\n\nThrough two performances based on historical accounts\, these two episodes in Oxford’s history – and the links between them – will be brought to light. \n\n\n\nThe event will feature live music from the Sea Green Singers and a paid bar. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\n1.45pm – Doors open \n\n\n\n2.00pm – The General Strike in Oxford\, by Peter Cann \n\n\n\nBased on written and oral histories\, records of the Oxford & District Trades Council\, and newspaper archives\, this performance will draw on the experiences of those in Oxford who took part in the 1926 General Strike. \n\n\n\nThe performance will be presented by a group of narrators and performers\, who will give voice to the sequence of events and the people involved over the nine days of the Strike. The performance will be accompanied by songs performed by the Sea Green Singers. Written and devised by local playwright Peter Cann. \n\n\n\n3.00pm – Interval \n\n\n\n3.20pm – 40th Anniversary of the Miners’ Strike in Oxford \n\n\n\nBased on the book ‘The Miners’ Strike in Oxford’\, this portion of the event will tell the story of the extraordinary efforts made in the city to support the miners\, including significant campaigning\, picketing and fundraising. \n\n\n\nFeaturing singing from the Sea Green Singers. This is a reprisal of an event first held at Florence Park Community Centre in 2025 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike. \n\n\n\n4.00pm – Event ends \n\n\n\nThis event is held to commemorate the centenary of the General Strike\, alongside further events organised by Oxford & District Trades Council. \n\n\n\nAccess  \n\n\n\nThere is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax Tower (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum\, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift to the Galleries and then a lift to the basement. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nTickets cost £8.50 and can be booked online or at the Museum Shop. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 16 May 2026 at 2.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nEvent tickets are non-refundable if you choose to cancel your booking. A refund will only be issued if the event is cancelled or if there is a significant change to the advertised programme. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Museum of Oxford is the only museum dedicated to telling the story of Oxford and its people. Located inside the Oxford Town Hall\, it explores the city’s rich history beyond the university\, focusing on the lives\, industries\, and communities that have shaped Oxford over time. \n\n\n\nThe museum features interactive exhibits\, local artefacts\, and personal stories\, covering topics such as Oxford’s medieval origins\, its diverse communities\, and key moments in its development. SUMMARY:NEIL BRAND’s Centenary Laurel & Hardy Show
DESCRIPTION:NEIL BRAND’s Centenary Laurel & Hardy Show\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout NEIL BRAND’s Centenary Laurel & Hardy Show\n\n\n\nFollowing the success of his 2023/24 tour\, Neil Brand invites you to celebrate the centenary of Laurel and Hardy with a brand-new show. \n\n\n\nIn 1926\, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy signed separate contracts with Hollywood film mogul Hal Roach and appeared for the first time in a film together\, 45 Minutes from Hollywood. The following year\, they would become an official comedy partnership that would set the whole world rocking with laughter. \n\n\n\nNobody could have anticipated at the time how this unlikely Anglo/American comedy duo would become global icons in over 130 countries around the world. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n NEIL BRAND’s Centenary Laurel & Hardy Show\n\n\n\nThe organisers are pleased to announce and celebrate those 100 years with the brand new production of Neil Brand’s Evening with Laurel & Hardy 2026 Centenary Tour. Neil has established himself as the foremost exponent of silent film and improvised piano accompaniment. \n\n\n\nThanks to new restorations of their silent films\, and the rediscovery of some of their lesser-known comedies\, Neil will uncover gems of hilarity from the team whose comedy never ages\, and bring them to jaw-dropping life with the demanding live piano improvisations for which he is so famous. Featuring extended scenes from the best of their silent comedies\, particularly You’re Darn Tootin’\, The Finishing Touch and The Second Hundred Years. \n\n\n\nNeil’s concerts have proved really popular with his personal contact with the audience & his unique insight into Laurel & Hardy and the birth of the cinema industry. His engaging\, easy-going style\, along with his Q&A at the end of the show answering all the questions from the audience\, followed by his after-show ‘Meet and Greet’\, makes for a highly entertaining evening. \n\n\n\nCurrently working on a television documentary and a new book about The Boys\, Neil is once again looking forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with audiences around the country\, and celebrating the life and times of comedy legends\, Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £28.00 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 12 April 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nNorman Bragg Studio \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
