DESCRIPTION:South Oxford Farmers and Community Market\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the South Oxford Farmers and Community Market\n\n\n\nThe South Oxford Farmers and Community Market is a weekly market selling local\, seasonal food and non-food goods. \n\n\n\n‘Local’ means produced within a 30-mile radius of Oxford and ‘produced’ means containing a significant quantity of local ingredients and labour although locality rules do not necessarily apply to ethical enterprises such as Fairtrade or similar organisations. \n\n\n\nThe market also supports the resale of locally-sourced second-hand products such as books and clothing. \n\n\n\nThe market is held every Sunday from 10.00am to noon in the courtyard of the South Oxford Community Centre on Lake Street. \n\n\n\nWeekly/regular vendors include: \n\n\n\n\nNatural Bread Company\n\n\n\nClays Organic Vegetables\n\n\n\nBrill Organic Vegetables\n\n\n\nEadles of Beckley\n\n\n\nSofacoma Wholefoods\n\n\n\nCelia’s Bakery\n\n\n\nFAI Eggs\n\n\n\nRaffaele Pepe\n\n\n\nJericho Coffee Traders\n\n\n\n\nThe South Oxford Farmers and Community Market is an initiative of the Low Carbon South Oxford (LCSO) Community Action Group\, and it is run by a small group of dedicated volunteers – all residents of South Oxford.

It is now owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group and hosts everything from ballet and opera to musicals. \n\n\n\nOn performance days\, the Box Office opens at noon and closes 15 minutes after the show starts. If there is a performance on a Sunday or Bank Holiday\, Box Office will open 2 hours before the show begins and close 15 minutes after the show starts. \n\n\n\nThere is a large air-conditioned bar with seating located below the Stalls Foyer\, two further bars in the Circle Foyer and an additional one at the back of the balcony. DESCRIPTION:Wolvercote Community Market\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Wolvercote Community Market\n\n\n\nEstablished in 2002\, Wolvercote Community Market is the longest running Farmers’ Market in Oxford\, and one of three in the North Oxford area. The market aims to provide the community with locally-produced great tasting food. \n\n\n\nThe Sunday market serves the community and visitors by providing fresh\, affordable and ethically sourced food as well as a place to meet\, eat and socialise with friends and neighbours. It also provides a free marketplace for local producers and crafts people. \n\n\n\nRegular stallholders bring fresh fruit and veg\, locally reared meat\, sustainably sourced fish\, artisan bread\, cheese and milk. Other traders produce fantastic cakes\, jams\, chutneys\, pasta\, chocolates and even plants and soaps. \n\n\n\nThe market has an amazing range of freshly made dishes from diverse food regions – Japanese\, Middle-Eastern\, Asian\, and the Mediterranean. There’s also a cafe that serves coffee\, tea\, cakes\, and a ‘Full Wolvercote’ breakfast. \n\n\n\nThe market is open every Sunday from 10.00am to noon at The White Hart Community Pub in Godstow Road\, Lower Wolvercote. \n\n\n\nThere is a Repair Café and bike clinic on the 2nd Sunday of each monthBring along your broken small electrical item\, and a trained volunteer will try to fix it for you and save it from the landfill. They also have volunteer mechanics to provide tune-ups and repairs\, and to offer advice to get your cycles rolling smoothly. \n\n\n\nIf you’re arriving by bicycle\, there are plenty of bike racks and a regular bike.

All produce is grown\, reared\, caught\, brewed\, pickled\, baked\, smoked or processed by the producer. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, stalls are staffed by the producer\, family member or someone who is directly involved in growing\, raising or producing the goods on sale\, or those with a good working knowledge of the production process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGood to know\n\n\n\nThe Town Council organises several weekend / Continental-style Markets each year\, and the Charter Market is held in Market Place every Thursday (except on the 4th Thursday of the Month when it is replaced by the Farmers Market).

The market also features stalls non-food stalls selling antiques\, scarves and shawls\, non-plastic household goods\, and makeup\, plus cleaners and detergents. \n\n\n\nThe majority of the producers are from within 30 miles of Oxford. \n\n\n\nThe market began in August 2006 with just six stalls\, and it has since grown into a local institution. Today\, regular stalls include: \n\n\n\n\nMighty Pie Co – artisan traditional hand made meat & vegetarian flat & raised pies made from local ingredients\n\n\n\nCrudges Cheese – a range of cheeses hand made by ethical & sustainable cheese makers known personally to award-winning Crudges\n\n\n\nWillowbrook Farm – free-range chicken\, lamb\, beef\, organic eggs & local honey\n\n\n\nNatural Bread – handcrafted speciality breads\n\n\n\nMrs B’s Antiques – antique jewellery & vintage household goods\n\n\n\nJericho Coffee Traders – premium coffee roasted in Jericho & served from a vivid turquoise tuk-tuk\n\n\n\nJason’s Book Box – second-hand books\n\n\n\nSandy Lane Farm – seasonal\, fresh\, local organic fruit & veg\, lamb & pork\n\n\n\nSESI Food & Detergent Filling Station – refilling empty containers for fairtrade\, organic dried foods; household detergents & hair-care products\n\n\n\n\nThe market also has a cafe which runs each week selling delicious breakfasts\, lunches\, cakes and fair-trade teas and coffee. This is a lovely place to meet up and take a break from shopping. \n\n\n\nThe market is wheelchair accessible both inside and outside. \n\n\n\nThe East Oxford Farmers’ & Community Market is a non-profit making organisation (a Society for the Benefit of the Community). It is run by a committee and a group of volunteers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGetting there\n\n\n\nThe market takes place every Saturday from 10.00am to 1.00pm at East Oxford Primary School. Head down Cowley Road until you reach Tesco – the school borders on the car park directly behind it.
