SUMMARY:Mohammed Sami: ‘After the Storm’
DESCRIPTION:Mohammed Sami: ‘After the Storm’ Exhibition\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Mohammed Sami: ‘After the Storm’\n\n\n\nBlenheim Art Foundation is pleased to announce a major solo exhibition by Mohammed Sami coming to Blenheim Palace. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition\, ‘After the Storm’\, will take place from Tuesday\, 09 July\, to Sunday\, 20 October\, 2024\, marking a decade of Blenheim Art Foundation’s award-winning contemporary art programme. \n\n\n\nThrough exploring retroactive memories\, his paintings capture a world shaped not just by the weight of the past but also the present\, creating scenarios that are often left to the viewer to interpret through the lens of their own experiences. \n\n\n\nAs Sami has previously written\, “Painting becomes the only medium to grasp what is not there in painting anymore”. \n\n\n\nSami’s paintings feature landscapes\, interiors and more abstracted scenes whilst always being devoid of the human figure. They blur the line between reality and artifice\, conjuring the disquieting sensation of both presence and absence. \n\n\n\nBlenheim Palace\, a gift from Queen Anne to the First Duke of Marlborough in recognition of his triumph at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704 and later the birthplace of wartime prime minister Winston Churchill\, stands as an architectural testament to military glory. \n\n\n\nPlaced within the context of Blenheim Palace and its world-renowned collection of portraiture and narrative artworks\, Sami’s enigmatic paintings challenge viewers to reconsider the didactic nature of these traditional genres. \n\n\n\nMichael Frahm\, Director of Blenheim Art Foundation\, said: “We are thrilled to bring the exceptional work of Mohammed Sami to Blenheim Palace for his major solo exhibition. \n\n\n\n“Sami’s unique visual language\, which merges the personal and historical\, the fragmented and the surreal\, is set to engage audiences in a profound dialogue with the Palace’s storied past and its impressive art collection.  \n\n\n\n“This exhibition not only celebrates a decade of contemporary art within our walls but also reaffirms our commitment to showcasing groundbreaking artists whose work resonates with the times and places they inhabit.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see below for important booking information. \n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation:Inside the Palace. \n\n\n\nTickets required:Entry is valid with an Annual or Privilege Pass or a Palace\, Park and Gardens day ticket. \n\n\n\nDogs:No dogs allowed in the Palace. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Mohammed Sami\n\n\n\nMohammed Sami was born in Baghdad in 1984\, later immigrating to Sweden in 2007\, and now lives and works in London. In 2023\, Sami’s work was the subject of a solo exhibition at Camden Art Centre\, London\, his first solo institutional exhibition in the UK\, which toured to De La Warr Pavilion\, Bexhill-on-Sea. \n\n\n\nHe has participated in group exhibitions at the Carnegie Museum of Art\, Pittsburgh (2022); Aichi Triennale (2022); the Whitechapel Gallery\, London (2022); the Hayward Gallery\, London (2021); and Towner Eastbourne (2020) and his paintings are held in many notable places such as the Tate\, London; Museum of Modern Art\, New York; and Moderna Museet\, Stockholm.

SUMMARY:Nik Kershaw
DESCRIPTION:Nik Kershaw\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Nik Kershaw\n\n\n\nThe small but perfectly formed Nik Kershaw and his fabulous band are playing an intimate festival warm-up show at the O2 Academy in Oxford on Friday\, 28 June. \n\n\n\nThere will be a distinct lack of dance moves\, lasers\, pyrotechnics\, Jazz hands or anything remotely to do with “show business”. Very little sartorial effort will be made (minimal sequins or spandex).  \n\n\n\nJust expect a great band playing great songs\, up close and personal; you know the ones – “Wouldn’t It Be Good”\, “The Riddle”\, “I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”\, “Dancing Girls”\, “Wide Boy”\, “Human Racing”\, and “Don Quixote”\, to highlights from Nik’s nine studio albums and his career as a songwriter. Maybe even the odd cheeky cover version. Who knows? \n\n\n\nIt might get sweaty! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDon’t miss this rare chance to see the man once described by Elton John as “the best songwriter of his generation” (disclaimer – Elton may have been off his tits when he said it). \n\n\n\nNik Kershaw is also playing the Roadmender in Northampton on Friday\, 12 July. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nAge guidance:No under 8s.Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult over 18 at all times.Under 25s require ID to purchase alcohol. \n\n\n\nCurfew: 10.00pm \n\n\n\nTicket limits:There is a ticket limit of 4 tickets per person and per credit card on this event. Please adhere to published ticket limits. Persons who exceed the ticket limit may have any or all of their orders and tickets cancelled without notice by Ticketmaster at its discretion. This includes orders associated with the same name\, e-mail address\, billing address\, credit card number or other information. \n\n\n\nTicket fees:Per order delivery fees may apply and will vary depending on selected delivery method (eTicket free of charge). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout O2 Academy Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Edwardian building on Cowley Road has been hosting live music for decades. But prior to being a music venue\, it was a Cooperative party hall. It was originally known as The Venue and then the much-respected Zodiac\, both of which paved the way for O2 Academy Oxford\, which officially launched in September 2007\, with performances from New Young Pony Club\, The Magic Numbers and Young Knives. \n\n\n\nSince then\, the O2 Academy Oxford has established itself as one of the city’s greatest venues for live music and club nights\, with some of the best gigs to date coming from Ed Sheeran\, Foals\, Stereophonics\, Ozzy Osbourne\, Babyshambles\, Hozier and Royal Blood. Visit the venue information page for further details\, including opening times\, getting there\, age restrictions and more.
