SUMMARY:OBSCURUM - a contemporary photography exhibition focused on Venice
DESCRIPTION:OBSCURUM – a contemporary photography exhibition focused on Venice\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout OBSCURUM – a contemporary photography exhibition focused on Venice.\n\n\n\nOBSCURUM is a contemporary exhibition of black and white Scandinavian photography focused on Venice by Eva Ohtonen (FIN) and Katarina Rothfjell (SWE). \n\n\n\nThe photographs\, taken over the past two years\, have been selected from the digital and analogue archives of both artists. \n\n\n\nThe deep impact of “black” fascinates and emphasizes\, while light tends to seem limitless and almost blinds. \n\n\n\nBlack and white photography represents the most essential “colours” and highlights a range of different subjects that surround us: events\, nature\, landscape\, reportage\, portrait\, and street photography. \n\n\n\nBlack and white images constitute a rhythmic composition. In our colourful and constantly moving world\, it seems even more important to the two photographers to train the human eye to observe works in monochrome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nEvent launch and discussion \n\n\n\nOBSCURUM exhibition launch and discussion with the photographers will be held in conjunction with The Oxford Italian Association at the JdP Music Building on 13 May from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. \n\n\n\nEntrance:General admission – £5.00The Oxford Italian Association members – £2.00Students – Free.

SUMMARY:Dorchester-on-Thames Festival
DESCRIPTION:About the Dorchester-on-Thames Festival\n\n\n\nThe biennial Dorchester-on-Thames Festival is one of Oxfordshire’s leading Festivals and is based in and around the stunning location of Dorchester Abbey. \n\n\n\nThe Dorchester Festival takes place this Spring from 03 to 12 May\, with an exciting collection of over 50 events packed into just 10 days at the Abbey. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the festival is partnering with the incredible local charity Restore\, who support individuals to live with increased freedom from the constraints of mental ill health through therapeutic activity\, coaching and learning. \n\n\n\nHighlights in 2024 include the return of world-class classical group The Tallis Scholars\, the BBC Elstree Concert Band\, the now legendary abseil down the Abbey’s 100ft tower\, cookery workshops by top chefs\, comedy\, folk and jazz nights\, a gift and food fair\, and even a duck race. \n\n\n\nRestore will be adding its own activities focused on mental health and wellbeing. \n\n\n\nDorchester Festival was started in 2005 following a significant restoration of Dorchester Abbey. It was initially a way of encouraging new people into the building and showing the potential of the Abbey as a venue for different events. \n\n\n\nOver time\, this event has evolved into a significant community gathering. It provides members of the rural South Oxfordshire community with the chance to create\, participate in\, and enjoy large-scale professional arts events that are typically not accessible in their locale. \n\n\n\nThe organisers raise money across the festival and then share the profits equally between the Abbey and a different local charity every time. It is run entirely by volunteers who take on roles such as organising events\, taking tickets or simply pouring tea. \n\n\n\nSince 2005\, the festival has regularly attracted over 3\,000 people each year\, from followers of the arts to schools\, families and children of all ages and has raised £250\,000 for Dorchester Abbey and local charities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit the festival box office to book your tickets. \n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nDates\, times & prices:Please see individual event lisitings on the box office website for dates\, times and prices.
