Having encountered the masterpieces of Bach and Handel\, Mozart began to reappraise his values as a composer. SUMMARY:The Prat Pack 2025 UK Tour: Preview Shows
DESCRIPTION:The Prat Pack 2025 UK Tour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Prat Pack 2025 UK Tour: Preview Shows\n\n\n\nFour of the country’s greatest comedy entertainers will tour the UK in 2025 with their own special take on the Rat Pack – Bradley Walsh (The Chase\, Gladiators)\, Brian Conley (The Brian Conley Show\, EastEnders)\, Shane Richie (EastEnders\, I’m a Celebrity…)\, and Joe Pasquale (I’m a Celebrity…\, Dancing On Ice) are ‘The Prat Pack’. \n\n\n\nWith countless stage performances between them\, from hit musicals to celebrated pantomimes\, this talented group brings their charisma and comedic flair to audiences in a show packed with music and laughter. \n\n\n\nInspired by the performances of Frank Sinatra\, Dean Martin\, Sammy Davis Jr\, Joey Bishop\, and Peter Lawford\, the UK stars are hitting the road (with Pasquale at the wheel of the tour bus). \n\n\n\nPacked with laughs and songs\, backed by a 15-piece band\, the show will let the audience in on the banter between some of television’s best-loved stars – who are also very close friends. \n\n\n\nBradley Walsh says: “People are starved of our type of entertainment – songs\, stories\, jokes – and banter! It’s an homage to the Rat Pack but brought up to the modern day\, and it’s a fantastic night. We are just thrilled. We all share the same dressing room – we’re mates. We’ve known each other for so long now – and the show is about warmth and family – because we are. It’s great\, really great.” \n\n\n\nWalsh was joined by his three mates and the Barry Robinson Big Band for a one-off show at the Palladium in London in March\, and the idea was born for a full-on Prat Pack tour.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £55.00 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 22 April to Wednesday 23 April 2025 \n\n\n\nTuesday at 7.30pm and Wednesday at 8.00pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nMain auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Farm Boy
DESCRIPTION:Farm Boy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Farm Boy\n\n\n\nIt sometimes felt as though time had stood still down on the farm – the old Fordson tractor quietly rusting away at the back of the barn\, Grandpa tending his chickens – that is\, until the summer his grandson came to stay\, and the old man started telling stories of what it had been like when he was a boy. \n\n\n\nFarm Boy\n\n\n\nFollowing successful UK tours and a critically acclaimed run in New York\, Michael Morpurgo’s compelling sequel to War Horse returns to the stage in this delightful\, family-friendly show combining drama\, storytelling\, and original music – a moving account of the changing face of the English countryside and a beautifully crafted reminder that stories really can reach out across the generations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £16.50 \n\n\n\nNo transaction fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 23 April 2025 at 1.00pm and 4.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 30 minutes \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nNorman Bragg Studio \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Marjorie Collins: A Retrospective 1975-2025
DESCRIPTION:Marjorie Collins: A Retrospective 1975-2025\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Marjorie Collins: A Retrospective 1975-2025\n\n\n\nLight\, and the abstract shadows\, shapes\, and reflections that it can impart on objects or surfaces\, is the unifying theme that runs through the work in Marjorie Collins’ retrospective exhibition. \n\n\n\nAlthough she started out painting people and places\, today Marjorie is better known for her colourful contemporary watercolours of still lifes and florals\, often painting objects larger than life. Marjorie still paints urban scenes\, many from unusual angles to create abstract shapes\, but with the resulting image still representational. \n\n\n\nAbout the Artist  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarjorie grew up in Chicago and trained at the University of Michigan\, where she gained a Bachelor’s degree in Design\, followed by part-time graduate courses at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was in Chicago that her interest in how light falls on buildings led to the style that characterises her work. She moved to Oxford in 1975\, and this exhibition follows the refinement of that technique. \n\n\n\nShe has exhibited widely\, and her work can be found in a number of corporate and private collections both in the UK and the US. Images of her work have appeared in a number of art publications and on the artuk.org website. Marjorie is a Member of the Society of Women Artists\, the Society of Botanical Artists\, and the Oxford Art Society.  \n\n\n\nThis exhibition represents a selection of the paintings Marjorie has completed since moving to Oxford from Chicago in 1975 until the present. During this time\, she has exhibited her paintings widely in galleries in solo and group shows both in the United States and in England\, where her work can be found in corporate\, private\, and public collections.   \n\n\n\nOpen exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition\, Sunday Times Watercolour Competition\, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours\, and the Royal Watercolour Society. \n\n\n\nAmong the many prizes her work has received are:  \n\n\n\n\nWinsor and Newton Grand Award – Celebration 2000 Competition (Artist Magazine) \n\n\n\nRunner Up St Cuthbert’s Mill Award – Society of Botanical Artists Competition 2007 \n\n\n\nDaler Rowney Purchase Prize – Society of Women Artists 2008 \n\n\n\nFinalist Flowers and Garden Competition – International Artist Magazine 2009 \n\n\n\nWinsor and Newton First Prize – Royal Watercolour Society 2011 \n\n\n\nDaniel Smith Excellence in Colour Award – Society of Women Artists 2011 \n\n\n\nShortlisted Artist of the Year Award – Artist and Illustrator Magazine 2013\, 2014 \n\n\n\nShortlisted Artist – Jacksons Open Art Prize 2018 \n\n\n\nSt Cuthbert’s Paper Mill Award – Society of Women Artists 2018 \n\n\n\nWinner – Artist Magazine’s 90th Anniversary Challenge (to paint a city scene) \n\n\n\nHighly Commended – The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Art Competition \n\n\n\nFaso Boldbrush Merchandise Award – Women in Watercolour (US Int. SUMMARY:Museum of Oxford Walks: Shakespeare and Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Museum of Oxford Walks: Shakespeare and Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford Walks: Shakespeare and Oxford\n\n\n\nNew for 2025\, celebrating the Museum of Oxford’s 50th birthday! \n\n\n\nShakespeare came to Oxford when travelling between work (London) and his family (Stratford-upon-Avon) – what a commute! What was Oxford like during his lifetime? What did he get up to while he was in town? \n\n\n\nThis is an opportunity to pause and look carefully at Oxford city centre\, noticing Elizabethan and Jacobean details you might pass by every day. The tour includes a unique Tudor bedroom above Cornmarket Street\, the famous Painted Room which will be opened specially by Oxford Preservation Trust\, just for us! \n\n\n\nWant to know more about Elizabethan eating and drinking\, entertainment\, and travel? Or the rollercoaster of religious change in Tudor and Stuart England? Led by historian Dr Elizabeth Sandis\, this is a Shakespeare-themed journey through Oxford’s famous streets. \n\n\n\nAt the end there will be an optional 20-minute extension to the tour (included in the price)\, exploring Tudor and Stuart treasures in the Museum of Oxford’s galleries. \n\n\n\nAccessibility and further information \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Museum of Oxford shop (located inside the Oxford Town Hall). Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of the walk and check in at the Museum Shop with our friendly front-of-house team. \n\n\n\nThe walk lasts for approximately 90 minutes and is a circular walk around central Oxford. Length: approximately 1.2 miles / 1.9 km. Two toilet stops are available along the way. \n\n\n\nPlease note the Tudor Painted Room is up a steep flight of stairs without a lift; it is sadly not accessible to wheelchairs. The rest of the tour can be adapted to offer a more wheelchair-friendly route\, avoiding narrow doorways and cobbles (please let us know if you would prefer this option by emailing museum@oxford.gov.uk). \n\n\n\nMeet your tour guide: Elizabeth Sandis \n\n\n\nShakespeare and Oxford\n\n\n\nDr Elizabeth Sandis works at the Ashmolean Museum and is the author of Early Modern Drama at the Universities: Institutions\, Intertexts\, Individuals (Oxford University Press\, 2022). She researches the way in which the Classical culture of Greece and Rome impacted English society and values during the early modern period. With a passion for local history and theatre\, she enjoys translating and staging examples of the kind of plays students were producing in Oxford during the time of Shakespeare. \n\n\n\nAccess at the Museum \n\n\n\nThe Museum is accessible for wheelchair users\, buggies\, and baby carriers. There is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum\, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift and lift to the basement level. Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor\, before entering the Museum. \n\n\n\nPlease contact the Museum team if you’d like to talk to a member of staff about your access requirements. SUMMARY:This Kind of Black
DESCRIPTION:This Kind of Black\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout This Kind of Black\n\n\n\nPresented by Reece Williams and HOME \n\n\n\nThis Kind of Black is a powerful new stage show from poet and musician Reece Williams. \n\n\n\nIt’s about growing up in Manchester’s Moss Side in the 1990s\, a stone’s throw from conflict and violence. \n\n\n\nIt celebrates a community held together by prayers\, warmth\, and humour while mourning the tragic loss of young life. It’s about the intersection of race and class when the media only portrays you through the lens of ‘Gunchester’. \n\n\n\nAt the heart of the show is the relationship between a father and a son\, and the impact of trauma on the mental health of young Black boys across the generations. \n\n\n\nCommissioned by HOME and Apples and Snakes\, supported by STUN and Contact. \n\n\n\nFunded by Arts Council England and the Jerwood New Work Fund. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“A beautiful\, lyrical requiem that manages to be both moving and gently celebratory”. ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nAdventures In Theatreland \n\n\n\n\n\n“A real celebration of community\, depicting its strength\, hardship\, humour\, and resilience”.  \n\n\n\nILoveManchester \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices:From £12.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times:Thursday 24 April at 7.30pmFriday 25 April at 7.30pmSaturday 26 April at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time:65 minutes\, with no interval. \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 14+ \n\n\n\nContent guidanceThis show contains minor use of explicit language\, and references to violence and gun crime. \n\n\n\nLocation:BT Studio \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Rave On For The Avon with Director Q&A (12A)
DESCRIPTION:Rave On For The Avon with Director Q&A (12A)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Rave On For The Avon with Director Q&A (12A)\n\n\n\nDirected by Charlotte Sawyer \n\n\n\nOne-off screening featuring a panel discussion and Q&A with director Charlotte Sawyer and ‘Big Oil’ whistleblower Caroline Dennett. \n\n\n\n‘Rave On For The Avon’ is a compelling documentary that delves into the heart of the River Avon community\, highlighting the passionate efforts of local swimmers\, scientists\, and even a mermaid as they unite to protect and preserve their cherished river. \n\n\n\nThe film underscores themes of environmental activism\, community resilience\, and the profound connection between people and their natural surroundings. \n\n\n\nEngland is one of only two countries in the world with a fully privatised water and sewage system. With just 14% of its rivers in good ecological health\, the effort to keep them clean is falling short. \n\n\n\nIn this inspiring documentary\, director Charlotte Sawyer follows a community of wild swimmers in Bristol as they grapple with the impact of raw sewage pollution in the River Avon. Determined to reclaim their waters\, they take on water companies and local authorities in a fight for cleaner\, healthier rivers. \n\n\n\nAbout Caroline Dennett \n\n\n\nCaroline Dennett is an environmental activist and whistleblower committed to corporate accountability. After witnessing sewage dumping in her hometown of Weymouth\, she launched the #DontPayForDirtyWater campaign in 2023\, urging consumers to boycott water bills in protest. \n\n\n\nAn Extinction Rebellion activist since 2019\, she has secured media coverage in The Telegraph\, The Observer\, iNews\, the BBC\, and local press. As a Shell Oil whistleblower\, Caroline publicly resigned in 2022 after 11 years as a safety consultant\, exposing the company’s environmental harm and greenwashing\, a move that went viral. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Campaigning never looked so fun and friendly as it does in this joyous documentary.” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nCath Clarke\, The Guardian \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nAdult – £11.50 \n\n\n\nSenior Citizen – £10.50 \n\n\n\nStudent – £9.50 \n\n\n\nClaimant – £9.50 \n\n\n\nChild – £6.50 \n\n\n\nFamily (multiples of 4) – £7.50 x 4 = £30.00 \n\n\n\n15 – 25 Member – £6.50 \n\n\n\nCarer (CEA Card) – £11.50 \n\n\n\nA 75p online booking fee per ticket applies. \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 24 April 2025 at 6.15pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 26 minutes \n\n\n\nFilm rating: \n\n\n\n12A

SUMMARY:Ballet Black: Shadows
DESCRIPTION:Ballet Black: Shadows\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ballet Black: Shadows\n\n\n\nNow in its 23rd year\, Cassa Pancho’s Ballet Black makes its return to The Playhouse with an exciting new double bill including Pancho’s darkly comic adaptation of Oyinkan Braithwaite’s international bestselling novel\, My Sister\, The Serial Killer. \n\n\n\nWhen Korede gets a distress call from her sister Ayoola\, she knows what to do: bleach\, rubber gloves\, nerves of steel\, and a strong stomach. It’s the third boyfriend Ayoola has killed in “self-defense\,” and the third mess Korede has to clean up. \n\n\n\nShe should probably go to the police\, but family comes first. Things take a turn when Ayoola begins dating the doctor Korede secretly loves\, forcing Korede to choose between saving him and betraying her sister. \n\n\n\nThe double bill is completed by Brooklyn-born\, award-winning choreographer Chanel DaSilva\, making her British choreographic debut. Renowned for using the arts to inspire meaningful change\, DaSilva has been commissioned by prestigious companies such as The Washington Ballet\, Parsons Dance Company\, and Dallas Black Dance Theatre\, and made history as the first Black woman to choreograph for The Joffrey Ballet. \n\n\n\nIn her debut for Ballet Black\, DaSilva delves into the profound practice of shadow work\, exploring its power to reveal our true selves. Her work is celebrated for its deep exploration of humanity and its potential to inspire transformation both within the dance world and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\nReviews of Ballet Black: HEROES 2024: \n\n\n\n\n“This is a cleverly curated double bill”. ★★★★ \n\n\n\nEdinburgh Guide \n\n\n\n\n\n“Vigorous energy and sharp technique”.  \n\n\n\nThe Stage \n\n\n\n\n\n“Triumphant and glittering performance”.  \n\n\n\nOxford Dance Writers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices:From £14.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times:Friday 25 and Saturday 26 April 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nInterval:This show includes an interval. \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 12+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry.
