DESCRIPTION:Museum of Oxford Walks: Beer\, Sausages and Marmalade\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford Walks: Beer\, Sausages and Marmalade\n\n\n\nThis 90-minute walk led by local historian Liz Woolley will take you on a tantalising tour of the quirky world of food and drink in 19th-century Oxford. \n\n\n\nFrom the ‘Celebrated Oxford Sausage’ to Frank Cooper’s famous ‘Oxford Marmalade’\, Liz will expertly guide you through locations associated with Oxford’s unique food and drink heritage. \n\n\n\nFind out how Oxford’s eponymous delicacies went hand-in-hand with the city’s growing importance as a desirable tourist destination as you visit sites including Morrell’s Lion Brewery\, the 250-year-old Covered Market and some iconic pubs. \n\n\n\nYou’ll also discover the city’s long history of malting and brewing\, and how this important trade contributed to Oxford’s burgeoning industrial economy. Find out how the significant families which controlled these businesses influenced Oxford’s developing economic\, social and political life. \n\n\n\nJoin a Beer\, Sausages and Marmalade walking tour to see Oxford through the eyes of an expert and discover the unique food heritage embedded in the heart of Oxford. \n\n\n\nAs part of the tour\, you will see: Frank Cooper’s Marmalade Factory\, the old Swan Brewery malthouse\, the street that was once described as a ‘dreadful sort of place’ – and more historic Oxford locations. \n\n\n\nAccessibility and further information \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Museum of Oxford shop (located inside the Oxford Town Hall). Liz has lived in Oxford for forty years and has an MSc in English Local History from the University’s Department for Continuing Education. He wrote this up for her in a fine manuscript entitled Alice’s Adventures Under Ground in 1864 and published an expanded version as Alice in Wonderland in 1865\, under the pen name Lewis Carroll\, with illustrations by John Tenniel. \n\n\n\nJoin venues across Oxford\, including the Museum of Oxford\, History of Science Museum\, Oxford Botanic Garden\, Weston Library\, Alice’s Shop\, and The Story Museum\, for events\, including theatre\, puppetry\, crafting\, trails\, dance\, games\, lectures and more\, to celebrate one of literature’s – and Oxford’s – best-loved story heroes. \n\n\n\nAll events are free unless otherwise stated. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGallery

Listen out for the sounds of a working engine shed and see if you can hear Stan fetch his supplies from Jonah\, the storeman.\n\n\n\nVisit the carriage and wagon display of restored rolling stock from Victorian times to the 1940s\, including the VIP Saloon reputed to have been used by General Eisenhower during the preparations for D-Day and later used in the GWR Royal Train\, and our restoration workshops\n\n\n\nMarvel at Brunel’s Broad Gauge railway\, locomotives\, coaches and transfer shed and don’t miss a section of his not entirely successful ‘Atmospheric Railway’\n\n\n\nGet hands-on in The Signalling Centre where you can find out how trains have been controlled through the ages.  The Swindon Panel is demonstrated on certain specified dates.\n\n\n\nDescend into a shelter built to keep Didcot’s enginemen safe in WWII and experience an air raid\n\n\n\nImmerse yourself in the huge and varied collection of fascinating\, smaller items in the Museum. \n\n\n\nDiscover some GWR road vehicles in the Road Transport Hangar.\n\n\n\n\nChildren can also make tracks to the outdoor play area or dress up as a station master. SUMMARY:Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm
DESCRIPTION:Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm\n\n\n\nDaliso Chaponda has been writing jokes about the news for over a decade – on Have I Got News For You\, Radio 4′ News Quiz\, Australia’s Good News Week and many more besides. (In fact\, he’s seen the news from both sides\, having been in the tabloids himself.) \n\n\n\nBut recently the news has been so absurd\, chaotic and overwhelming that it more or less mocks itself. Where do we go from here? \n\n\n\nTopical Storm is Daliso’s response. A show not about ‘The’ news but about news itself. Journalists\, bloggers\, fake news\, satirical news: have we lost the thread of it all? Is the reporting of news endlessly polarising us as a society rather than educating us? \n\n\n\nWould we be better off going right back to the first-ever news bulletin – the original caveman drawing on a wall – and starting from scratch? Daliso does just that in this explosive new standup show. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Full of sharp one-liners and well-crafted gags…a real talent.” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nMetro \n\n\n\n\n\n“Gets laughs out of topics other comedians shun.” \n\n\n\nThe Guardian \n\n\n\n\n\n“Brilliantly bold\, thoroughly engaging and provocative.” \n\n\n\nWee Review \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – £19.00Pay More – £21.00Pay Less – £17.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 03 July 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n14+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. SUMMARY:Songs of the Bulbul
DESCRIPTION:Songs of the Bulbul\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Songs of the Bulbul\n\n\n\nPresented by Aakash Odedra Company in association with Manchester Camerata \n\n\n\nBirdsong is fleeting—like dance\, it exists only in the present\, vanishing as soon as it is sung. \n\n\n\nThis is another chance to see award-winning UK choreographer and dancer Aakash Odedra as he returns to the Main Stage\, following a sold-out show last summer.Inspired by an ancient Sufi myth of a captive bulbul (or nightingale)\, the songbird’s melody becomes a metaphor for the fleeting nature of dance and an artist’s life. \n\n\n\nBlending Kathak and contemporary movement\, the work explores freedom\, devotion\, and resilience through virtuosic rhythm\, moments of stillness\, and an intimate dialogue between body\, breath\, and music. \n\n\n\nFeaturing choreography by Rani Khanam and music by Rushil Ranjan\, this exquisite performance blends Sufi Kathak\, orchestral and Indian classical traditions\, and Islamic poetry. \n\n\n\nTracing a journey from freedom to captivity and the soul’s longing for divine love\, Songs of the Bulbul explores whether we\, like the caged bird\, remain bound to the material world or soar towards liberation and enlightenment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“It is a song of beauty and light and life.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe Guardian \n\n\n\n\n\n“One of the most exquisite things you will ever see.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nSmall House Big Trips \n\n\n\n\n\n“A work of exquisite beauty and sadness… the kind of theatrical moment that stays with you forever.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe Scotsman \n\n\n\n\n\n“Songs of the Bulbul is a dazzling piece of dance and a sensational visual treat.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nWeekend notes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£15.00 to £36.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 30 June and Thursday 01 July 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n55 minutes\, without an interval \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n12+ \n\n\n\nWarning: \n\n\n\nThis show contains flashing lights\, loud sounds\, and sudden noises \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.
