SUMMARY:The Circle
DESCRIPTION:The Circle\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Circle\n\n\n\nWill history come full circle? Or can one generation learn from their parents’ mistakes? \n\n\n\nJane Asher (Alfie\, Deep End) plays Lady Kitty\, a society beauty who notoriously abandoned her stuffy husband Clive (Clive Francis\, The Crown)\, and eloped with the handsome Lord Porteous (Nicholas Le Prevost\, Shakespeare in Love\, Testament of Youth). \n\n\n\nThirty years later\, love’s young dream has descended into non-stop squabbling… \n\n\n\nMeanwhile Clive and Lady Kitty’s son Arnold (Pete Ashmore\, The Lovely Bones) faces the same marital fate\, as his wife Elizabeth (Olivia Vinall) threatens to elope with the dashing Teddie Luton (Chirag Benedict Lobo). \n\n\n\nSomerset Maugham’s sparky comedy of manners was first staged in 1921 and has remained a firm favourite with audiences ever since. Maugham was among the most successful novelists and playwrights of the inter-war years. Bauer) Prélude\, Fugue and Variations\, Op. 18Dilorom Saidaminova The Walls of Ancient BukharaRavel Gaspard de la NuitIntervalPrice Fantasie nègre No. 1 in E MinorProkofiev Romeo and Juliet: Ten Pieces for Piano\, Op. 75 \n\n\n\nBehzod Abduraimov stepped onto the international stage at the age of eighteen when he won first prize at the 2009 London International Piano Competition. \n\n\n\nTrained initially in Tashkent and then in the USA\, he now performs with renowned orchestras worldwide and is a sought-after recitalist. He is praised for his depth of musicality\, phenomenal technique and breathtaking delicacy. \n\n\n\nHis programme is one of scene painting and fantasy\, with a mix of the familiar and the less well known. Fellow Uzbek Dilorom Saidaminova’s composition is a series of eight-scene paintings inspired by the sites and sounds of the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara. \n\n\n\nThe exquisite suite of piano pieces that Prokofiev distilled from his ballet Romeo and Juliet is also scene painting\, but of characters rather than sites – Friar Laurence\, fiery Mercutio\, the Montagues and Capulets. In between these come Ravel’s fiendishly tricky Gaspard de la Nuit inspired by the sinister ‘fantaisies’ of Aloysius Bertrand\, and the first of Florence Price’s four Fantasies nègres\, this one based on the spiritual  ‘Sinner\, please don’t let this harvest pass’. \n\n\n\nfrom The Times\, August 2022‘…. we were held spellbound by the sublime pianism of Behzod Abduraimov in Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto. He coaxed sound of gossamer beauty from the keys and created shimmering halos around the notes. And\, oh\, his scales\, each one a perfectly formed thing. No wonder the conductor Thomas Dausgaard turned to watch in the cadenzas\, intent as any Prommer. This was Beethoven with character\, elegance and wit.’ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlso available:Season Tickets for all nine concerts in the 2024 Series at a 20% discount. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:Ticket prices from £20.00 to £35.00Parking (limited availability) £10.00 per spacePre-concert dinner £27.00 per person \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 5+ \n\n\n\nDuration: 120 minutes\, including an interval
