SUMMARY:Ross Noble - Jibber Jabber Jamboree
DESCRIPTION:Ross Noble – Jibber Jabber Jamboree at New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ross Noble – Jibber Jabber Jamboree\n\n\n\nFollowing his enormously successful previous tour of Humournoid\, the much-loved British comic will be bringing his inimitable train-of-thought comedy and randomist wit back to UK stages from 25 October 2023 to 17 March 2024\, stopping off for a night at New Theatre Oxford on 02 November 2023. \n\n\n\nJibber Jabber Jamboree marks Ross Noble’s 21st solo stand-up tour. To celebrate this milestone\, Ross invites audiences to join him for an evening of the sort of inspired nonsense that has cemented his place as the supreme master of stream-of-conscious freewheeling stand-up. This is a chance to see Noble live on stage in his natural habitat. \n\n\n\nEarning mainstream popularity through his appearances on shows like Have I Got News For You\, Ross Noble’s own stand-up specials have also earned him critical acclaim. The biggest-selling act at the Edinburgh and Melbourne comedy festivals\, his stand-up routines are mostly improvised and often incorporate audience participation. \n\n\n\nOutside of the comedy circuit\, Noble has made his film debut in the comedy horror film Stitches. He’s also taken to the musical theatre stage in his debut role in The Producers and in Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein musical on the West End – a role that earned him an Olivier Award nomination. \n\n\n\nOn what audiences can expect from his new tour\, Ross Noble says: “It will be a playful experience for young and old. Imagine watching someone create a magic carpet on an enchanted loom. Oh\, hang on… magic carpets fly\, that would smash the loom as it took flight. I haven’t thought that through… That’s what people can expect. Razor-sharp observations on things I haven’t thought through.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important ticketing information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrices:From £34.07Tickets are subject to a transaction fee. \n\n\n\nAge guidance:15+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. SUMMARY:Level 42
DESCRIPTION:Level 42 at New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Level 42\n\n\n\nOne of the most successful UK bands of all time\, Level 42’s impressive discography includes hit tunes from Love Games\, Something About You and Hot Water\, to Lessons in Love\, Running in the Family\, Leaving Me Now and many others. \n\n\n\nLevel 42 is an English jazz-funk band formed on the Isle of Wight in 1979. At the beginning of their career\, Level 42 was squarely a jazz-funk fusion band\, contemporaries of fellow Brit funk groups like Atmosfear\, Light of the World\, Incognito\, and Beggar & Co. Their music was instantly recognizable from Mark King’s thumb-slap bass technique and associate member Wally Badarou’s synthesizer flourishes. \n\n\n\nBy the end of the ’80s\, however\, the band had crossed over to the point where they were often classified as sophistic-pop and dance-rock\, equally likely to be placed in the context of Sade and the Style Council – as was any group that made polished\, upbeat\, danceable pop/rock. The band’s commercial peak came with 1985’s World Machine\, but they continued to record and tour sporadically throughout the ’90s and 2000s. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important ticketing information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrices:From £40.17Tickets are subject to a transaction fee. \n\n\n\nAge guidance:All 16s and under must be accompanied by an adult 21+. \n\n\n\nDuration:This show has an interval. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. SUMMARY:Unruly: in conversation with David Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:Unruly: in conversation with David Mitchell about his new book\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Unruly: in conversation with David Mitchell about his new book\n\n\n\nJoin BAFTA Award-winning actor\, writer\, and comedian David Mitchell as he discusses his new book\, Unruly. \n\n\n\nA serious book by a very funny man\, Unruly is for anyone who has ever wondered how we got here – and who is to blame. \n\n\n\nThink you know the Kings and Queens of England? Think again. \n\n\n\nIn Unruly\, David Mitchell explores how early England’s monarchs\, while acting as feared rulers firmly guiding their subjects’ destinies\, were\, in reality\, a bunch of lucky sods who were mostly as silly and weird in real life as they appear to us today in their portraits. \n\n\n\nTaking us right back to King Arthur (spoiler: he didn’t exist)\, David tells the founding story of post-Roman England right up to the reign of Elizabeth I (spoiler alert: she dies).  \n\n\n\nIt’s a tale of narcissists\, inadequate self-control\, excessive beheadings\, middle-management insurrection\, uncivil wars\, and at least one total Cnut\, as the English evolved from having their crops nicked by the thug with the largest armed gang to bowing and paying taxes to a divinely anointed King. \n\n\n\nHow this happened\, who it happened to and why the hell it matters in twenty-first-century Britain are all questions David answers with brilliance\, wit and the full erudition of a man who once studied history – and is damned if he’ll let it off the hook for the mess it’s made of everything. \n\n\n\nDavid Mitchell is a BAFTA Award-winning actor\, writer and comedian who has starred in many of the UK’s best-loved shows\, including Peep Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look.  \n\n\n\nHe is a frequent participant on British panel shows\, including Would I Lie to You?\, QI\, Mock the Week\, and Have I Got News for You\, and is one of the Observer’s most popular columnists. Unruly: A History of England’s Kings and Queens is his first history book. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important ticketing information below \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrices: From £40.72Tickets are subject to a transaction fee \n\n\n\nAll tickets include a £20.00 book. \n\n\n\nAge guidance: Under 5s will not be permitted into the venue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. SUMMARY:Songs of Desire
DESCRIPTION:Songs of Desire with Jacobine van Laar (mezzo-soprano) and Ilya Chetverikov (piano)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Songs of Desire\n\n\n\nWith international mezzo-soprano Jacobine van Laar and pianist Ilya Chetverikov \n\n\n\nRichard Wagner – Wesendonck LiederRalph Vaughan Williams – The House of Life \n\n\n\nA song recital evoking the mysteries of physical and spiritual love. \n\n\n\nWagner wrote the Wesendonck Lieder when he and his wife were offered sanctuary by Otto and Mathilde von Wesendock on their estate in Zurich. During this period\, Mathilda and Richard were a great inspiration to each other. Much has been speculated about the nature of the relationship between Wagner and Mathilde. Perhaps the answer is revealed in these exquisite songs. \n\n\n\nWhen composing The House of Life\, Vaughan Williams chose a selection of the eponymous sequence of sonnets by the Pre-Raphaelite painter/poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti. This collection is also known as The Kelmscott Love Sonnets\, after Kelmscott Manor in West Oxfordshire\, where Rossetti took joint tenancy with designer William Morris and his wife Jane. She not only was the the inspiration for Rossetti’s many portraits but also for The House of Life. \n\n\n\nIt seems both song cycles have quite a few things in common\, including the theme of transfiguration from love into death. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrice: £15.00
