SUMMARY:Churchill - History and Humour
DESCRIPTION:Churchill – History and Humour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Churchill – History and Humour\n\n\n\nActor and Historian\, Jeff Rozelaar\, returns to the Norman Bragg studio following his successful performance as Benjamin Disraeli in November 2022. \n\n\n\nIn the third person\, Jeff now delivers a portrayal of arguably “The Greatest Briton”\, Winston Churchill\, in a matinee performance. \n\n\n\nChurchill – History and Humour\n\n\n\n“We are all worms\, but I am a glow worm!” Winston Churchill. \n\n\n\nAct One \n\n\n\nA sprig of the aristocracy: Born to an American heiress and a descendent of the Duke of Marlborough\, Winston’s early life is portrayed from school to the start of his military career. His adventurous spirit relished action on behalf of the British Empire. His early journalistic and political ventures are depicted\, as is his contribution to the foundations of the Welfare State. This controversial figure is then mentioned in the context of Gallipoli 1915 and the General Strike 1926. \n\n\n\nAct Two \n\n\n\nThe second part starts with Winston in the political wilderness in the early 1930s and goes on to cover his eventual inclusion in the government when he was proved right about the Fuhrer. It depicts his legendary leadership of our country from “The Fall of France” and the prospect of invasion\, to final victory. It references the hurtful rejection by his own people in 1945 but finishes with the most outstanding of his treasured humorous quotations. \n\n\n\nThe production is enlivened by a visually engaging back projection\, evocative music\, and live dramatic episodes. \n\n\n\nWinston Churchill – History and Humour has enjoyed huge popularity on land and on innumerable cruise ships across the World. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £15.68 \n\n\n\nNo transaction fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nMonday 17 March 2025 at 2.00pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nNorman Bragg Studio \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen: Dawn Of Impressionism - Paris 1874
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition on Screen – Dawn Of Impressionism: Paris 1874\, 90′\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Exhibition on Screen – Dawn Of Impressionism: Paris 1874\, 90′\n\n\n\nThe Impressionists are the most popular group in art history – millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But\, to begin with\, they were scorned\, penniless outsiders. \n\n\n\n1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists\, “hungry for independence”\, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever. \n\n\n\nExhibition on Screen – Dawn Of Impressionism: Paris 1874\, 90′\n\n\n\nWhat led to that first groundbreaking show 150 years ago? Who were the maverick personalities that wielded their brushes in such a radical and provocative way? The spectacular Musée d’Orsay exhibition brings fresh eyes to this extraordinary tale of passion and rebellion. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists\, press\, and people of Paris\, in 1874. See the show that changed everything on the big screen. \n\n\n\nMade in close collaboration with the Musee d’Orsay and National Gallery of Art\, Washington D.C. \n\n\n\nThis is a screening\, not a live performance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £14.85 \n\n\n\nNo transaction fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 18 March 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nNorman Bragg Studio \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Public Service Broadcasting
DESCRIPTION:Public Service Broadcasting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Public Service Broadcasting\n\n\n\nFollowing their sell-out Friars Aylesbury Bright Magic concert in 2021\, Public Service Broadcasting returns to New Theatre Oxford for the final leg of their UK tour celebrating the launch of their new album titled The Last Flight which was released on Friday 04 October. \n\n\n\nThe inspiration for the LP is taken from the final voyage of America’s pioneering female “aviatrix” Amelia Earhart. Back in 1922\, when she was just 25\, she flew higher than any woman before her and became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans\, setting multiple speed and distance records. \n\n\n\nPublic Service Broadcasting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt also makes a nod to her final venture\, when she announced in 1937 that she would circumnavigate the globe in her Lockheed Model 10-E Electra aircraft. She crossed the Americas\, Africa\, the Middle East\, and Asia\, but never made it back. \n\n\n\nThe album’s first single Electra is a pulsating\, funk-inspired track which\, like the album\, takes inspiration from the determination of Earheart and captures the same force as her aircraft. \n\n\n\n“I wanted to do a woman-focused story because most of the archive we have access to is overwhelmingly male”\, said J. Willgoose Esq\, discussing the inspiration for their first album since 2021’s Bright Magic.  \n\n\n\n“I was initially drawn in by Earhart’s final fight\, rather than the successes that she had\, but the more I read the more I became fascinated by her. Her bravery and aeronautical achievements were extraordinary\, but her philosophy and the dignity that she had… she was an outstanding person.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £34.63 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95. \n\n\n\nDate and time: \n\n\n\nThursday 20 March 2025 at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\nUnder 16s to be accompanied by an adult 21+. The first theatre was built in 1836\, and a second in 1886. In 1934\, the third New Theatre opened. \n\n\n\nThe theatre has been owned by several different companies and undergone several name changes. It is now owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group and hosts everything from ballet and opera to musicals. \n\n\n\nOn performance days\, the Box Office opens at noon and closes 15 minutes after the show starts. If there is a performance on a Sunday or Bank Holiday\, Box Office will open 2 hours before the show begins and close 15 minutes after the show starts. \n\n\n\nThere is a large air-conditioned bar with seating located below the Stalls Foyer\, two further bars in the Circle Foyer and an additional one at the back of the balcony. SUMMARY:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Christoph Eschenbach
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Christoph Eschenbach\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: Christoph Eschenbach\n\n\n\nMendelssohn Overture to Midsummer Night’s Dream\, Op. 21 \n\n\n\nBach Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major\, BWV 1042 \n\n\n\nMendelssohn Symphony No. 4 in A major\, Op. 90\, ‘Italian’ \n\n\n\nChristoph Eschenbach conductor \n\n\n\nThomas Zehetmair violin \n\n\n\nTwo things inspired Mendelssohn more than anything else: travel and literature. This concert under Christoph Eschenbach celebrates both\, opening with all the magic and mystery of the composer’s overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, the play by Shakespeare for which he wrote extensive incidental music\, and concluding with the boundless exhilaration and joy of his Italian Symphony\, which overflows with the composer’s unique brand of perfected spontaneity. \n\n\n\nBetween them comes the Violin Concerto in E minor from Mendelssohn’s other great love: Bach. \n\n\n\nThis concert contains a pre-concert talk from Stephen Carpenter which runs from 6.30pm to 6.55pm. \n\n\n\nMendelssohn in Italy– an illustrated talk by Stephen Carpenter \n\n\n\nThis talk will give an account of the Italian journey undertaken by Felix Mendelssohn in 1830 and 1831. It was a journey that would inspire Mendelssohn to write one of his best-loved works\, Symphony No. 4 – the ‘Italian’. This was the continuation of his “Grand Tour” which had begun in England and (unusually) Scotland in 1829 and now took him to Italy\, which was the country visited by many young men of means in the early 18th century. \n\n\n\nThe talk will bring Mendelssohn’s journey vividly to life by showing several of the fine sketches and watercolours that he made during his travels\, and give an introduction to the ‘Italian’ Symphony that brings the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert to a close. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets prices: \n\n\n\nStandard tickets – From £20.00 \n\n\n\nStudent – From £5.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 20 March 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours\, including an interval \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n6+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Sheldonian Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nHome to ceremonial occasions and a raft of exciting events\, the magnificent and versatile Sheldonian Theatre is the focal point of the University of Oxford and is a unique space to experience live music. \n\n\n\nTo see an interactive map of the theatre\, click here. \n\n\n\nFind out more about the Sheldonian Theatre\, including facilities\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Levellers
DESCRIPTION:Levellers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Levellers\n\n\n\nAfter two highly acclaimed acoustic tours and albums in recent years\, the Levellers Collective has announced a new 17-date tour in Spring 2025 at theatres and venues around the country plus a Live Album & DVD. \n\n\n\nThe Collective live shows\, and albums\, came about after the Levellers decided to do something a bit different with their extensive back catalogue in 2018.
