SUMMARY:Robin Hood at Cogges Manor
DESCRIPTION:Robin Hood at Cogges Manor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobin Hood at Cogges Manor\n\n\n\nJoin award-winning outdoor theatre company Illyria for Robin Hood on the beautiful lawn of Cogges Manor. \n\n\n\nAdapted by Oliver Gray and inspired by the earliest ballads of Robin Hood\, some pre-dating Chaucer\, Illyria has created a fast-moving\, fun-packed family show. \n\n\n\nWhile good King Richard is away fighting the crusades\, his friend Robert Fitzooth\, under the assumed name of Robin Hood\, resolves to relieve corrupt landowners of their wealth\, to ruin the inept Sheriff of Nottingham and to do all he can to prevent the power-mad Prince John from seizing the throne. \n\n\n\nFeaturing tales of camaraderie\, good against evil\, swashbuckling action and riotous comedy\, this remains one of Illyria’s most popular ever titles. You’ll definitely laugh\, you’ll probably cry – and if you’re not cheering at the archery competition involving the entire audience\, then you must be dead.  \n\n\n\nThey also guarantee you will learn new uses for the phrase “Don’t Do This At Home.”  \n\n\n\nRobin Hood by Illyria ia an outdoor theatre production on the beautiful Cogges Manor lawn – the perfect stage for open-air theatre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobin Hood by award-winning outdoor theatre company Illyria\n\n\n\nAbout Illyria\n\n\n\nIllyria was created in 1991\, and ever since has delighted audiences the length and breadth of the UK and in the Netherlands\, Germany\, Switzerland\, France\, the United States and Canada. SUMMARY:CODE by Justice in Motion/Dancin’ Oxford
DESCRIPTION:CODE by Justice in Motion/Dancin’ Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout CODE by Justice in Motion\n\n\n\nThe phone vibrates…a message…times\, numbers\, deals…and a warning. All in code.  \n\n\n\nSo young and so troubled. At home\, in school\, on the street. There’s no way out – is there? \n\n\n\nDancin’ Oxford\, in conjunction with Justice in Motion\, will present the world premiere of CODE at its Summer Dance Festival in Oxford on 19 and 20 August 2023. \n\n\n\nCODE is an original physical theatre/dance work by Justice in Motion exploring the growing levels of child exploitation across regional UK by criminal gangs based in large cities. \n\n\n\nMobile phones are used by the gangs to organise the sale\, distribution and financing of drugs throughout the regions – hence the crime is colloquially known as “county lines”. \n\n\n\nThis energetic\, breath-taking\, pulsing\, visually stimulating performances tell an unforgettable tale of one young person who falls prey to a gang. Groomed with gifts and coerced with threats\, their victim takes on the dangerous business of drug running. The result is a visually stunning\, breath-taking\, and mesmerising piece of theatre.  \n\n\n\nCODE was developed through a research and development phase\, funded by Arts Council England\, and then a series of workshops with young people\, run in association with Dancin’ Oxford. \n\n\n\nJustice in Motion’s research has encompassed organisations working on the front line\, as well as collecting real stories from young victims and survivors. \n\n\n\nCODE brings together trials bikes\, parkour\, physical theatre and live rap music to establish a narrative that delves into the crime and its effects on young people. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nCODE will be performed outdoors on Oxford Broad Street on 19 August at noon and 3.00pm\, and at Barton Neighbourhood Centre\, Headington\, on 20 August at 2.00pm and 5.00pm. \n\n\n\nAll performances are free to attend.

Right: Teeth\, Flora Yukhnovich\, oil on linen\, 2023 © Flora Yukhnovich\, courtesy the artist and Victoria Miro\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ashmolean NOW: Flora Yukhnovich x Daniel Crews-Chubb\n\n\n\nThe Ashmolean has launched a new exhibition series of contemporary art: Ashmolean NOW\, which invites contemporary artists to create new work inspired by the Ashmolean’s historical collections. \n\n\n\nThe first exhibition is dedicated to contemporary painting. It juxtaposes the work of two London-based painters\, Flora Yukhnovich and Daniel Crews-Chubb. \n\n\n\nDespite stylistic differences\, the work of both artists links art historical inspirations with a dynamic and contemporary painterly language. The paintings displayed\, all made specifically for this exhibition\, convey a timeless passion for the medium of painting\, its materials and processes. \n\n\n\nFor this series of three exhibitions in Gallery 8\, each artist will explore different areas of the museum’s broad collections. Ashmolean NOW will feature their four very different points of view. The summer exhibition will be followed by Pio Abad in February 2024 and Bettina von Zwehl in October 2024. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nVenue:Gallery 8 on the Lower Ground Floor \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlora Yukhnovich\n\n\n\n\n\nFlora Yukhnovich (b. 1990) found herself drawn to the palettes and compositions of the museum’s Dutch and Flemish still life paintings.  \n\n\n\nHer large-sized paintings feature intense red\, pink\, peach and green colours and an abstracted painterly language. Circular forms and soft contours suggest organic growth\, while glowing light and dark contrasts create an illusion of three-dimensional depth. \n\n\n\nYukhnovich’s work playfully and critically explores different notions of femininity in the history of art and popular culture\, looking at contrasting stereotypes like ‘virtuous’ and ‘monstrous’ women. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Crews-Chubb\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Crews-Chubb (b. 1984) presents a group of large-scale paintings that take inspiration from ancient sculptures of deities and non-human figures found in the Ashmolean. \n\n\n\nThese ‘immortals’\, as Crews-Chubb calls his fantastical figures\, are created through a laborious process of addition and revision\, including drawing\, impasto\, and collage. \n\n\n\nThe textured patchwork of his canvasses gives Crews-Chubb’s monumental subjects a three-dimensional presence that\, as he describes\, ‘corrodes the boundary between painting and sculpture’.

SUMMARY:Giffords Circus - Les Enfants du Paradis
DESCRIPTION:About Giffords Circus – Les Enfants du Paradis\n\n\n\nGiffords Circus is back at Stonor Park for two weeks in July of 2023 with its new show Les Enfants du Paradis. \n\n\n\nGiffords Circus is a magical vintage village green circus that tours England from the first days of spring to the first glimpse of winter. It’s a Cotswolds institution\, founded in 2000 by Nell and Toti Gifford and to date it has been visited by over one million people. Giffords is much more than a circus\, it’s a magical nod to old fashioned circus with a glamorous twist. \n\n\n\nIt’s a side-splitting show directed by comedy genius Cal McCrystal that appeals to both young and old and with a cult following of local farmers\, rock stars and A-list celebrities. Step inside the tent into a colourful madcap world of acrobats\, jugglers\, horses\, musicians\, dancers\, and Tweedy the Clown. A production that would rival any West End show. \n\n\n\n“The most fun you can have in a tent. Genius. Children vomiting with laughter.” —Hugh Grant \n\n\n\nLes Enfants du Paradis will take inspiration from French Romanticism in the mid-19th Century \n\n\n\n“Les Enfants du Paradis will be our most lavish show yet! And with romance at its heart\, the show’s narrative will provide a playful context for some of the most intriguing\, exciting and beautiful acts ever to appear at Giffords.” —Cal McCrystal\, Director \n\n\n\nAward-winning and internationally renowned production designer Takis\, whose elegant work has graced the stages of the world’s greatest opera houses\, will once again create lavish sets and period costumes that will transport audiences to a magical – and unexpected – world under the canvas of the big top. \n\n\n\nTweedy the Clown has been at the heart of Giffords Circus for over 15 years\, bringing new comic routines and skills to the show each year. At the centre of the story and action\, he makes a welcome return in Les Enfants du Paradis\, with his unique brand of slapstick comedy guaranteed to have everyone in stitches. \n\n\n\nTweedy will be joined by actor and singer Michael Fletcher\, who previously starred in Giffords Circus shows Xanadu in 2019 and The Feast in 2020. New acts for Les Enfants du Paradis include Antony Cesar\, an exciting 20-year-old aerialist who won the golden buzzer on ‘France’s Got Talent’ in 2020. Antony’s parents are artistes Pat Bradford and Kate Smyth who appeared in early Giffords Circus shows with their hand-balancing act. Kate is also a Giffords Circus choreographer. \n\n\n\nAlso starring in Les Enfants du Paradis are Sergi Buka\, an amazing illusionist\, shadow artist and lanternist who will perform a poetic Chinese shadow act. The Skating Medini (Asia and Dylan Medini) – a dynamic high-speed roller-skating act from one of Italy’s oldest circus families. Amanda Sandow with her beautiful liberty pony act. Foot juggling and aerialist artistes Romy and Alex Michael. The Luna Girls – aerial hoop duo Marina Alvarado de Luna and Markia Ashley Gould. \n\n\n\nThe Ethio-selam Troupe\, a very exciting Ethiopian acrobatic troupe\, who will perform the double Chinese pole. The Ethio-selam Troupe are managed by Bibi and Bichu\, Giffords alumni and jugglers who appeared in more than 10 Giffords Circus shows and were adored members of the circus. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important ticketing information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrices:Adults – £20.00 to £40.00 Children – £10.00 to £30.00 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGood to know\n\n\n\nIn 2023 Circus Sauce will once again tour alongside Giffords Circus. \n\n\n\nCircus Sauce is Giffords unique\, travelling licensed restaurant which opens for dinner following the show. SUMMARY:The Ocean at the End of the Lane
DESCRIPTION:The Ocean at the End of the Lane\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Ocean at the End of the Lane\n\n\n\nFrom the imagination of Neil Gaiman\, best-selling author of Coraline\, Good Omens and The Sandman (now a major Netflix series)\, comes the National Theatre’s major new stage adaptation of The Ocean at the End of the Lane. \n\n\n\nThis five-star spectacular from the producers of War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a thrilling adventure of fantasy\, myth and friendship\, taking audiences on an epic journey to a childhood once forgotten and the darkness that lurks at the very edge of it.  \n\n\n\nReturning to his childhood home\, a man finds himself standing beside the pond of the old Sussex farmhouse where he used to play. He’s transported to his 12th birthday when his remarkable friend Lettie claimed it wasn’t a pond but an ocean – a place where everything is possible. \n\n\n\nPlunged into a magical world\, their survival depends on their ability to reckon with ancient forces that threaten to destroy everything around them. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important ticketing information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrices: From £13.00Tickets are subject to a transaction fee \n\n\n\nDuration: 2 hours 5 minutes\, including an interval \n\n\n\nDate & times:Tuesday 20 June at 7.30pmWednesday 21 June at 2.30pm and 7.30pmThursday 22 June at 2.30pm and 7.30pmFriday 23 June at 7.30pmSaturday 24 June at 2.30pm and 7.30pm \n\n\n\nThis production contains the following effects; high-intensity lighting and strobe\, haze and smoke\, pyrotechnics\, loud sound and blackouts. \n\n\n\nThis production explores adult themes that some people may find distressing or frightening.
