SUMMARY:Pygmalion: Presented by Oxford Theatre Guild
DESCRIPTION:Pygmalion\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Pygmalion: Presented by Oxford Theatre Guild\n\n\n\nBy George Bernard Shaw \n\n\n\nSet in the bustling streets of early 20th-century London\, Pygmalion tells the story of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle\, dreaming of a better life. Professor Henry Higgins\, a brilliant but arrogant linguist bets he can transform Eliza into a ‘duchess’ by teaching her to speak properly. But as the lessons progress\, both teacher and pupil discover that identity and self-worth are far more complex than mere speech and social status. \n\n\n\nA sharp critique of the British class system\, Pygmalion combines wit\, humour\, and social commentary\, challenging audiences to reflect on the nature of transformation and the true meaning of independence. Known for inspiring the beloved musical My Fair Lady\, this play invites you to ponder whether wouldn’t it be lovely if we could all see beyond appearances. \n\n\n\nThis production by Oxford Theatre Guild breathes new life into Shaw’s beloved play\, emphasising its timeless themes of self-discovery\, personal growth\, and the power of words. Pygmalion promises to be a memorable theatrical experience that captures the essence of Shaw’s work in a way that resonates with today’s audiences. \n\n\n\nThis fresh and captivating production marks Oxford Theatre Guild’s 70th anniversary of theatre-making in Oxford. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“A fun and amusing night out\, another example of how important companies like OTG are to Oxford in their compelling and evident enjoyment of their craft”.  \n\n\n\nOxInABox on The Importance of Being Earnest\, 2024 \n\n\n\n\n\n“Oxford Theatre Guild act up a storm in this celebration of the Restoration superstar”.  \n\n\n\nDaily Info on Nell Gwynn\, 2023 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices:From £14.00 \n\n\n\nDate & time:Tuesday 01 at 7.30pmWednesday 02 at 7.30pmThursday 03 at 7.30pmFriday 04 at 8.00pmSaturday 05 April 2025 at 2.30pm & 7.30pm \n\n\n\nInterval:This show includes an interval. \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 12+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Lucy Porter: No Regrets!
DESCRIPTION:Lucy Porter: No Regrets!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Lucy Porter: No Regrets!\n\n\n\nThe irrepressible Lucy Porter bounces back into action with a show all about regrets. Frank Sinatra had too few to mention\, but Lucy’s got hundreds\, and she’s prepared to go into graphic detail about all of them. Disastrous dates\, professional calamities\, ruined friendships\, and parenting fails. \n\n\n\nLucy describes all the mistakes she’s made\, works out why they happened\, and ponders how her life would have turned out if she’d acted differently. \n\n\n\nLucy looks at the things we might all collectively regret – not sticking to the work-life balance we strove for during lockdown\, not realising that clapping for the NHS wouldn’t be enough to save it\, allowing people we thought were quite fun on TV to become politicians. \n\n\n\nHow does regret tie in with guilt and shame? As a middle-aged\, middle-class\, left-leaning ex-Catholic\, guilt is one of Lucy’s top five hobbies (along with going to the garden centre\, doing jigsaws\, making bread\, and watching subtitled foreign dramas on Netflix. She’s also ashamed of all these hobbies.) \n\n\n\nIt’s not all negative though. If you regret something\, you can use it to change your ways: see the thing you regret as your rock bottom\, and let it spur you on to become a better person. Lucy looks at how she can use shameful or annoying things from her past to change her future. \n\n\n\nLucy regrets volunteering at the school fete when her kids were younger because now she’s committed to being the Hook a Duck Lady twice a year for the rest of her life. Maybe she could learn to say No a bit more? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Impeccably punch-lined anecdotes… Genuinely delightful.” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe Telegraph \n\n\n\n\n\n“A treat from start to finish.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe Herald \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices:£23.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times:Wednesday 02 April 2025 at 8.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time:1 hour 40 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Mill Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre is the cultural hub for Banbury and the surrounding area. \n\n\n\nAs the only dedicated arts provision in the area\, it aims to inspire creativity and enrich the lives of the communities by providing a high-quality\, varied artistic\, educational and participatory programme. \n\n\n\nIt plays a significant role in the town’s cultural\, social and economic development by offering the community the chance to engage with and be entertained by several art forms. \n\n\n\nThe Mill Arts Centre offers an exciting live events programme\, including theatre\, dance\, music\, comedy\, film\, workshops and classes. But prior to being a music venue\, it was a Cooperative party hall. It was originally known as The Venue and then the much-respected Zodiac\, both of which paved the way for O2 Academy Oxford\, which officially launched in September 2007\, with performances from New Young Pony Club\, The Magic Numbers and Young Knives. \n\n\n\nSince then\, the O2 Academy Oxford has established itself as one of the city’s greatest venues for live music and club nights\, with some of the best gigs to date coming from Ed Sheeran\, Foals\, Stereophonics\, Ozzy Osbourne\, Babyshambles\, Hozier and Royal Blood. Visit the venue information page for further details\, including opening times\, getting there\, age restrictions and more.
