In the end\, he found a way – following that composer’s terse intensity with a world of lyrical expanse\, mining emotional complexity through technical simplicity. \n\n\n\nAn icon among pianists\, Elisabeth Leonskaja\, comes to the festival to traverse Schubert’s world from the dreamy but turbulent B major sonata to the abysmal melancholy of his penultimate work in the form and the peak of the composer’s vision of the Impromptu. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £15.00 \n\n\n\nStudents from £5.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 29 July 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Sheldonian Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nHome to ceremonial occasions and a raft of exciting events\, the magnificent and versatile Sheldonian Theatre is the focal point of the University of Oxford and is a unique space to experience live music. \n\n\n\nTo see an interactive map of the theatre\, click here. \n\n\n\nFind out more about the Sheldonian Theatre\, including facilities\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Didcot Railway Centre Discovery Days
DESCRIPTION:Didcot Railway Centre in Didcot\, Oxfordshire\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Didcot Railway Centre Discovery Days\n\n\n\nWith no trains running\, explore the 21 acre living museum at leisure and get close to the exhibits \n\n\n\nTravel back to the golden age of the Great Western Railway and experience the sights\, sounds and atmosphere of steam across this 21-acre living museum\, showcasing trains from Victorian times through to the 1960s. \n\n\n\nVisitors can explore the site at leisure and uncover almost two centuries of railway history. With trains not running on Discovery Days\, there is a rare opportunity to see the locomotives up close. \n\n\n\nA colourful Centre Guide helps visitors navigate the site\, from the original 1932 Engine Shed to the impressive collection of preserved locomotives\, including 5900 Hinderton Hall. Guests can step onto the footplate and hear staff in character as they bring the engines to life\, capturing the rhythms of a working steam-era shed. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAcross the site\, the Engine Shed atmosphere is carefully recreated\, with sounds and details that evoke daily railway life. The Carriage and Wagon section displays restored rolling stock from Victorian times to the 1940s\, including a VIP saloon believed to have been used by General Eisenhower during preparations for D-Day and later part of the GWR Royal Train\, alongside ongoing restoration work. Brunel’s Broad Gauge collection is also on display\, including locomotives\, coaches\, the transfer shed\, and remnants of the ambitious Atmospheric Railway. \n\n\n\nInteractive and interpretive experiences continue in the Signalling Centre\, where visitors can discover how rail traffic has been controlled over time\, with the Swindon Panel demonstrated on selected dates. A WWII air raid shelter offers a powerful glimpse into wartime history\, while the museum houses a vast and varied collection of smaller artefacts. The Road Transport Hangar adds further depth with examples of historic GWR road vehicles. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nDiscovery Days offer full access to the site\, with the restaurant\, shop\, museum\, Engine Shed displays\, carriage and wagon exhibits\, signalling centre\, and transfer shed all open to visitors. The quieter atmosphere allows more time to appreciate the locomotives and surroundings. At times\, visitors may also witness shunting movements\, workshop activity\, or even steam tests taking place outdoors. \n\n\n\nFamilies can enjoy the outdoor play area or dress up as station staff\, while the refreshment rooms provide space to relax over lunch or a snack. A visit to the gift shop offers souvenirs to complete the experience. The backdrop of modern railway traffic passing nearby adds contrast\, bringing over 180 years of railway evolution together in a single day. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nAdmission for 2 people with Tea & Cake – £32.00 (£35.50 with Gift Aid) \n\n\n\nAdult Admission – £12.00 (£14.00 with Gift Aid)Senior Admission (65+) – £9.00 (£10.00 with Gift Aid)Child Admission (3 to 15) – £7.50 (£8.50 with Gift Aid)                  Child Under 3 Admission – Free \n\n\n\nFamily of 4 Admission (2 Adults and 2 Children) – £35.00 (£38.50 with Gift Aid)Family of 5 Admission (2 Adults and 3 Children) – £44.00 (£48.50 with Gift Aid)                 Carer Admission – £0.00Visitors may be asked to provide reasonable proof of carer status on the day of arrival. \n\n\n\nAdmission prices are inclusive of all regular attractions including free train rides on running days. \n\n\n\nChild prices apply to children aged 3 to 15 \n\n\n\nOpening times:The Didcot Railway Centre is currently open only at Weekends and on 18 to 20 February for Half-Term\, with the last entries at 2.30pm. Bikes are left at the owner’s risk. \n\n\n\nOnce you’ve parked your bike\, you can enter the festival via the Pick Up Drop Off entrance. \n\n\n\nIf you live locally and are planning to cycle\, you may find the Yellow Gate\, North Lodge entrance (OX7 3EH) an easier way to access the festival. If you do this\, we ask that you lock your bike up neatly against the fence line on the right side of the driveway/road\, so as not to block the pedestrian pathway. \n\n\n\nYou can also cycle round to the bike park\, but please note the road from the Green Gate round to the Yellow Gate will be busy with festival traffic\, mainly flowing in the opposite direction\, through the festival. \n\n\n\nBy foot\n\n\n\nThe Yellow Gate\, North Lodge entrance\, OX7 3EH is the dedicated route for accessing the festival on foot from Charlbury. \n\n\n\nThis route takes you up the main driveway towards Cornbury House. Upon passing through the North Lodge gate there is a pedestrian/local box office on your left where you can scan your mobile QR code in return for a festival wristband. If you have any problems with your pass they’ll also be able to help solve this for you here. \n\n\n\nOnce you have your wristband there is a fenced-off pedestrian walkway that runs along the grass verge\, up the side of the driveway\, taking you straight up to the pedestrian arena entrance\, bringing you into the arena next to the main Wilderness Stage. \n\n\n\nPlease ensure you use this dedicated walkway\, as this road is still used throughout the festival for exiting traffic. \n\n\n\nPlease note – if you’re accessing the campsites from this route you cannot enter until after 12.00pm on Thursday when the arena is open as you will need to walk through the arena to reach any of the campsites! \n\n\n\nIf you’re walking home in the evening\, please wear bright/reflective clothing and bring a torch as there is minimal lighting along some stretches of the surrounding local roads. \n\n\n\nPedestrian Route Instructions \n\n\n\n\nExit the station and turn right\n\n\n\nFollow forest road\, continuing straight over the bridge and then up a slight incline.\n\n\n\nPart way up the incline\, take the first major turning to your right. This will be at a triangle junction that has a small grassy area with a large tree in its centre.**\n\n\n\nFollow the sharp right bend\, round onto church lane.\n\n\n\nContinue up this road\, with most of the houses on your left hand side\, until you reach the entrance to the church yard.\n\n\n\nFollow the path of the church yard through to the other side – please be respectful and keep to the path.\n\n\n\nOnce you reach the exit on the other side\, turn right and follow the road down and then back up until you reach Yellow Gate in your right.\n\n\n\nTurn right and walk up the driveway\, over the bridge and through North Lodge gate – be sure to use the pedestrian gate to the right of the cattlegrid. Do not try to talk over the cattlegrid.\n\n\n\nOnce you’re through the gates\, the pedestrian box office will be immediately on your left.\n\n\n\nHave your mobile QR code ready to collect your festival wristbands.\n\n\n\nOnce you’ve collected your wristbands\, head up the driveway using the designated walkway\, turn left and then immediately cross the road to follow the walkway round to the pedestrian arena entrance.\n\n\n\nDo not continue to walk down the road to your left\, this road is busy with traffic and will not permit pedestrian access to the festival.\n\n\n\n\n** if you carry on straight at this point you will reach the town centre of Charlbury.
Each work on the menu teases and entrances in its own way – from the elusive conflicts of Beethoven’s sonata to the dualities of the vibrant young Schumann finding his place in the musical universe. \n\n\n\nIn between come two extraordinary statements in sets of six – Schoenberg’s delving into the world of serialism on the brink of the First World War in his aphoristic Six Short Pieces and the strange and beautiful world of Brahms’s emotionally rich Op. 118. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £12.00 \n\n\n\nStudents from £5.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 31 July 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Holywell Music Room\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Holywell Music Room in Oxford is one of the oldest purpose-built concert halls in Europe and a treasured cultural landmark in the city. SUMMARY:Suzanne Vega
DESCRIPTION:Suzanne Vega\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Suzanne Vega \n\n\n\nSuzanne Vega will perform a career-spanning show including favorites like ‘Tom’s Diner’\, ‘Luka’\, ‘Marlene On The Wall’\, and many more\, plus songs from her latest album\, Flying with Angels\, which was released in May 2025 to critical acclaim. \n\n\n\nShe will be joined on stage by her longtime guitarist\, Gerry Leonard (of David Bowie fame)\, and cellist Stephanie Winters. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Suzanne Vega\n\n\n\nWidely regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of her generation\, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk revival of the early 1980s. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar\, Vega sang what has been called contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. \n\n\n\nSince the release of her self-titled\, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album\, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known venues. \n\n\n\nKnown for performances that convey deep emotion\, Vega’s distinctive\, “clear\, unwavering voice” (Rolling Stone) has been described as “a cool\, dry sandpaper-brushed near-whisper” by The Washington Post\, with NPR Music noting that she “has been making vital\, inventive music” throughout the course of her decades-long career. \n\n\n\nBearing the stamp of a masterful storyteller who “observes the world with a clinically poetic eye” (The New York Times)\, Vega’s songs have tended to focus on city life\, ordinary people and real-world subjects. \n\n\n\nNotably succinct and understated\, her work is immediately recognizable—as utterly distinct and thoughtful as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 40 years ago. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat the Critics Say\n\n\n\n\n“Vega remains relevant and never afraid to challenge her audiences\, whether that’s musically or politically. A genius undimmed.” \n\n\n\nMorning Star \n\n\n\n\n\n“A gifted storyteller\, as much as a songwriter\, she holds the audience in the palm of her hand with ease.” \n\n\n\nThe Edinburgh Reporter \n\n\n\n\n\n“Four decades after her new-waif debut\, Suzanne Vega retains her knack for lucid reflections and crisp music to match… Her voice remains both knowing and observant.” \n\n\n\nRolling Stone \n\n\n\n\n\n“Infused with a vibrancy and political urgency that is very ‘now’.” \n\n\n\nMOJO \n\n\n\n\n\n“Finds humility and grace amid the ‘permanent emergency’ of the present.” \n\n\n\nUNCUT Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n“Vega proves she deserves a place with greats like Reed\, Dylan and Cohen.” \n\n\n\nThe Scotsman \n\n\n\n\n\n“Forty years on\, Suzanne Vega still weaves magic…she has lost nothing over the years—if anything\, her music has matured beautifully.” \n\n\n\nAll Music Magazine UK \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£43.77 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 31 July 2026 at 7.45pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\nThis show has an interval \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nMain Auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. SUMMARY:Van Gogh and Me
DESCRIPTION:Van Gogh and Me \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Van Gogh and Me \n\n\n\nDirected by John Retallack \n\n\n\nAu Contraire Productions presents four preview performances of Van Gogh & Me. \n\n\n\nOlivier Award-winning theatre maker John Retallack and acclaimed actor Jack Ellis are reuniting for the first time in over 40 years with Van Gogh & Me\, a deeply personal new play exploring the relationship between Van Gogh and Gauguin. \n\n\n\nWith over 20 paintings\, it tells the extraordinary story of the intense\, nine-week collaboration between Van Gogh and Gauguin in Arles in 1888. \n\n\n\nPerformed by Jack Ellis\, who moves fluidly between an unstable\, chaotic Van Gogh and a domineering\, self-assured Gauguin\, the piece dissects a tragic clash of egos. \n\n\n\nBy playing both men (and himself)\, Ellis lays bare the undercurrents of toxic masculinity and competitive pride that fuelled their isolation — bringing to life a creative partnership that\, though profound in its impact on modern art\, was to prove personally destructive to both men. \n\n\n\nAs the show ends\, the audience is invited to remain for a 30-minute interactive gathering. Spectators can step directly onto the stage\, examine Rachel Marston’s canvas reproductions up close\, and discuss the play openly with Ellis. \n\n\n\nVan Gogh & Me will premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe on August 15 at the Dovecot Studios and have a run of 21 performances. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Van Gogh and Me Poster\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – £15.00 \n\n\n\nPay more – £20.00 \n\n\n\nPay less – £10.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 01 and Sunday 02 August 2026 at 1.00pm and 3.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour plus 30 minutes optional post-show discussion with the performer. \n\n\n\nAge guidance:  \n\n\n\n12+ \n\n\n\nWarning: \n\n\n\nThis show contains a trigger warning; audience discretion is advised. \n\n\n\nGood to know: \n\n\n\nPlease note that all performances for this show will be performed at Iffley Village Hall\, Church Way\, Iffley\, Oxford\, OX4 4EJ. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Old Fire Station\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Old Fire Station in Oxford is an arts centre with a unique social mission\, combining creativity with community impact.
