SUMMARY:Witney Feast 2025
DESCRIPTION:Witney Feast\, The Leys\, Witney\, Oxfordshire\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Witney Feast 2025\n\n\n\nOne of Witney’s oldest traditions returns this September! With origins dating back nearly 800 years\, the Witney Feast was established to commemorate the rededication of St Mary’s Church and has become a cherished annual celebration in the town. \n\n\n\nSunday 14 September:The Feast kicks off with the much-loved Golden Gallopers service at 1.00pm on The Leys\, followed by a special family afternoon. Street entertainers\, including jugglers\, will keep children and adults smiling\, creating a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy the fun together. \n\n\n\nMonday 15 & Tuesday 16 September:The fair opens at lunchtime and runs through to 10.00pm\, offering two full evenings of fun\, food\, and rides under the lights. Classic favourites such as the Waltzer\, Dodgems\, Wild Mouse roller coaster\, and the big horses will be there\, alongside modern thrills like the spectacular Air Ride. Test your skills at traditional fairground stalls or enjoy a variety of food offerings. \n\n\n\nTraditional Highlights:The Witney Feast begins with a civic service at St Mary’s Church and continues with a blessing at the Golden Gallopers carousel on The Leys — a long-standing tradition that links the fair to its historic roots. This year\, Sunday’s family afternoon offers a new way to enjoy the Feast together before the main fair days. \n\n\n\nCelebrated for its size and unique attractions\, Witney Feast proudly holds the title of Oxfordshire’s largest funfair\, blending centuries of heritage with modern thrills and entertainment for all ages. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect \n\n\n\nStar Flyer\, Space\, Superstar\, Extreme\, Jumping Frogs\, Dominator\, Stargate – these are some of the rides you’re likely to encounter at Witney Feast in 2025. \n\n\n\nIt’s set to be a spectacular event. Along with traditional rides such as the Waltzer and Dodgems\, there is the Wild Mouse roller coaster and a family-friendly smaller version – the Dragon Coaster. \n\n\n\nSome of the rides that come to Witney are exclusive and not seen at the St Giles’ Fair in Oxford. \n\n\n\nSo\, if you fancy a ride aboard the Star Flyer 200 feet up in the air or a wander through the largest funhouse in Europe at four storeys high\, right here in the heart of Witney is the place to be. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTicketing information\n\n\n\nPrices:Entry to the fair is free at all times\, but charges will apply to rides and activities. \n\n\n\nOpening times:Opening times are noon to 10.00pm on both days\, and entry is free at all times. DESCRIPTION:Fagin’s Last Hour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Fagin’s Last Hour\n\n\n\nCharles Dickens’ dark tale of crime and punishment is stunningly re-imagined in this multi award-winning stage adaptation\, recognised by Queen Elizabeth II for its part in Dickensian scholarship. \n\n\n\nTold from the point of view of Fagin\, one hour before his execution\, this unique and powerful one-man show offers a fresh insight into literature’s most controversial villain. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“James Hyland has a powerful ability to portray numerous characters… When one actor can emulate an entire cast\, that is a powerful thing!… His acting was raw\, honest\, and profound. This was a brilliantly executed re-imagining of Charles Dickens’s tale.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nKashmini Shah\, Voice Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n“With his sheer physical presence\, Hyland’s Fagin is more than just the devious and pathetic wretch we are so familiar with\, he’s also dangerously threatening… Intense\, provocative\, and often downright scary.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nSimon Ball\, Simon’s Horrible Hothouse of Horror \n\n\n\n\n\n“Compelling throughout. Hyland’s presentation exploits his vocal range and his extreme athleticism… He has an uncanny ability to convince every member of an audience seated on two adjacent sides of a square auditorium that he is addressing them personally… do try to see his performance. SUMMARY:Pat Suet-Bik Hui & the Three Perfections
DESCRIPTION:Pat Suet-Bik Hui & the Three Perfections\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Pat Suet-Bik Hui & the Three Perfections\n\n\n\nThis exhibition celebrates the work of Pat Suet-Bik Hui 許雪碧 (b. 1943)\, a US-based Hong Kong artist\, shown alongside others who explore the tradition of the ‘three perfections’ 三絕 – the harmonious blending of poetry\, calligraphy\, and painting. \n\n\n\nFeaturing works by Hui\, her contemporaries\, her teacher Lui Shou-Kwan\, and artists of his generation\, as well as earlier examples from the 17th to 19th centuries\, the exhibition offers a rich context for understanding Hui as both an innovator and a guardian of tradition. \n\n\n\nIn this artistic lineage\, calligraphic brushstrokes carry as much compositional weight as painted forms\, while poetry and imagery combine to create expressions neither can achieve alone. \n\n\n\nHui’s contemporary approach merges abstract and semi-abstract ink and colour washes with understated calligraphy\, inscribing poems that reflect on themes including love\, loss\, and the quiet joys of drinking. \n\n\n\nVisitors will find translations of many inscribed poems and guidance on interpreting the interplay of painting\, calligraphy\, and poetry within individual works. \n\n\n\nHui gifted her paintings to art historian Michael Sullivan\, whose collection was bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum in 2013. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrice: \n\n\n\nFree \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nGallery 11 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Painting with Poem by Xin Qiji\, Pat Suet-Bik Hui & Wucius Wong\, 1987\, ink & colour on paper © Ashmolean Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Painting with poem by Paul Ka-Yin Kwok\, Pat Suet-Bik Hui & Paul Ka-Yin Kwok\, 1999\, ink colour on paper © Ashmolean Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Painting with poem by Nara Singde\, Pat Suet-Bik Hui\, 1991\, ink & colour on paper © Ashmolean Museum
