SUMMARY:The Sixteen’s 2025 Choral Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Sixteen’s 2025 Choral Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Sixteen’s 2025 Choral Workshop\n\n\n\nOur 2025 Choral Workshops are a rare and rewarding opportunity for keen amateur singers to explore a variety of music inspired by The Sixteen’s own Choral Pilgrimage. \n\n\n\nUnder the guidance of conductor Olivia Shotton and Sixteen soprano Julie Cooper\, the workshop includes advice on vocal technique (breathing technique\, invigorating warm-ups\, voice production) as well as performance interpretation and historical context. \n\n\n\nThe repertoire will be based on music from our 2025 Choral Pilgrimage: Angel of Peace\, which offers a slice of tranquillity in many forms courtesy of luminous\, purifying music traversing six centuries. From the enraptured songs of the medieval abbess Hildegard of Bingen to the magical realm of a brand new work by the contemporary composer Anna Clyne\, nine pieces of music from across the centuries speak of peace and acceptance and the ecstatic joy their reassurance can bring. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\n\nJohn Taverner \n\n\n\n‘Agnus Dei’ (III – excerpt) from Western Wind Mass\n\n\n\nArvo Pärt \n\n\n\nTribute to Caesar\n\n\n\n\nListen to the two tracks on Spotify here – https://spoti.fi/4gWVH3N?r=qr \n\n\n\nMusic\, plus supporting resources\, will be sent out at least one month before the workshop date. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Leaders \n\n\n\nOlivia Shotton \n\n\n\nOlivia is a graduate of our Genesis Sixteen Conducting Scholar programme (2023) and received intensive training from both Harry and Eamonn during this time. \n\n\n\nOlivia conducts a range of professional and amateur ensembles. Her recent engagements include Assistant Conductor for La Bohème (Longborough Festival Opera)\, Deputy Conductor for Messiah (The Merry Opera Company)\, Assistant Chorusmaster for Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 (Royal Academy of Music)\, and Assistant Musical Director for Hansel and Gretel (British Youth Opera). She was a Grand Finalist in the London International Choral Conducting Competition 2024. \n\n\n\nOlivia graduated with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music\, receiving the DipRam award for outstanding performance and the Sir Thomas Armstrong Choral Leadership Prize. Subsequently\, she was appointed as a Fellow at the Academy\, where she founded The CONVENTional Project\, a professional early music ensemble specialising in Italian convent music. \n\n\n\nOlivia sings professionally with Tenebrae\, London Voices\, and at the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula. \n\n\n\nJulie Cooper \n\n\n\nJulie has been a regular member of The Sixteen for nearly 30 years. It has provided her with a husband (Ben Davies\, Baritone)\, career highlights\, and the very best musical family. \n\n\n\nJulie started her musical journey aged four\, singing along to her Dad’s opera recordings. Much to his disappointment\, she has never sung the role of Brunnhilde\, but never say never. \n\n\n\nSince completing her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music\, Julie has performed as a consort singer and soloist around the world\, singing with most of the UK’s choral ensembles. Equally at home singing Brahms’ Requiem or Arvo Part’s Stabat Mater\, it is always her love of choral music and live performance that remains. \n\n\n\nHighlights with The Sixteen include singing James Macmillan’s Stabat Mater in the Sistine Chapel and performing as the soprano soloist in the world premiere of his Le Grand Inconnu. \n\n\n\nAs well as performing\, Julie is a vocal coach and Nutritional Therapist\, with a particular interest in vocal health and wellbeing. As well as running her own clinic\, Julie regularly delivers talks to singers and students\, workshops for musicians and vocal organisations\, and is increasingly in demand for her knowledge and expertise relating to women’s health in the workplace. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£30.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 17 May 2025 at 11.30am \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n3 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout SJE Arts Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSJE Arts Oxford is a concert venue and arts organisation based at St John the Evangelist Church on Iffley Road\, Oxford. \n\n\n\nThe church itself was built in the 19th century as part of a monastery established by the Cowley Fathers\, an Anglican religious community. Its striking Victorian Gothic architecture and serene atmosphere provide an exceptional setting for artistic and cultural events. \n\n\n\nSince its transformation into an arts venue\, SJE Arts has become known for its outstanding acoustics and diverse programming. Gyles Brandreth can’t stop talking. \n\n\n\nThe jumper-loving This Morning star\, who keeps popping up on Pointless\, QI\, Would I Lie To You?\, Sunday Brunch\, and The One Show\, has been burbling and babbling since he was a baby\, and in his hilarious new one-man show the award-winning raconteur (and holder of the world record for the longest-ever after-dinner speech – 12 and a half hours!) is trying to work out why. \n\n\n\nFrom 40 years on Radio 4’s Just A Minute to 4 years on Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox\, he can’t keep his mouth shut. He even talks in his sleep. What’s it all about? He will tell you – because this is his life story: a roller-coaster of tales and revelations from his unlikely life in show business and politics. \n\n\n\nThere will be surprises too (for him and you) when the audience spins a wheel to decide what he will talk about next. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss him – novelist\, actor\, ex-MP\, podcaster\, No. 1 best-selling biographer\, wordsmith\, and verbivore (he suffers from logorrhea – knows how to spell it and knows what it means) – he’s won the Audience Award for Most Popular Show on the Fringe\, multiple 5-star reviews and every time he’s been to Edinburgh his shows have sold out. SUMMARY:Suddenly Last Summer
DESCRIPTION:Suddenly Last Summer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Suddenly Last Summer\n\n\n\nBy Tennessee Williams \n\n\n\n‘Suddenly last summer… beneath the white-hot blazing sun of Cabeza de Lobo… I saw Cousin Sebastian die…’ \n\n\n\nA summer afternoon. The aging Mrs Venable brings her niece\, Cathy\, to the monstrous garden of her recently deceased son – a mysterious figure rumoured to have died in grotesque circumstances. The only witness to his death\, the source of these rumours\, and seemingly mad\, Cathy has been brought here to be silenced once and for all… \n\n\n\nSuddenly Last Summer is Tennessee Williams’ most shocking play\, a Southern Gothic drama about saintliness\, insanity\, and cannibalism\, but also a tender exploration into the loneliness common to all humanity and the way it can distort our love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£6.00 – £8.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 20 to Saturday 24 May 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 20 minutes \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n16+ \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nBT Studio \n\n\n\nWarning: \n\n\n\nIncludes some sexual references\, violence\, and mild swearing \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.

SUMMARY:Meditate and Create: Collage
DESCRIPTION:Meditate and Create: Collage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Meditate and Create: Collage\n\n\n\nCreate patterns\, words\, or pictures with paper. \n\n\n\nJoin local artist Eden for a 2-hour session for adults\, all about slowing down and taking care of yourself. \n\n\n\nThe session starts with a mindfulness meditation for 10-15 minutes. This is always optional and you can choose to just sit and listen if you’d prefer. \n\n\n\nWe will then explore a simple\, mindful creative activity together\, where the focus is the doing\, rather than putting pressure on an outcome. \n\n\n\nMonthly on Tuesdays 7.00pm – 9.00pm \n\n\n\nFor your safety \n\n\n\nThis session includes an optional mindfulness meditation to help you relax. You can always choose to just listen rather than take part. \n\n\n\nIt will last around 10-15 minutes. Whilst mindfulness meditation is generally a very safe practice\, there are some contraindications: \n\n\n\n\nAs we may be focussing on the breath\, if you have asthma or a serious breathing difficulty\, please have a fully charged inhaler with you.\n\n\n\nAs relaxation can trigger epileptic seizures\, if you have epilepsy that is not controlled by medication\, please seek your doctor’s permission before joining.\n\n\n\n\nWhen booking your place you agree to the above terms and conditions and agree that you have read and fully understand the terms and conditions around health care. Ultimately\, the responsibility to take the best care of yourself lies with you. \n\n\n\nA bit about Eden \n\n\n\nEden is an artist facilitator and works across Oxfordshire with groups of all ages. Her art sessions are all about taking time out for ourselves and looking after our wellbeing\, rather than putting too much pressure on the final product. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£10.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 20 May 2025 at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nThe Hanney \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Beacon\, Wantage\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Beacon is a community centre in Wantage offering live events\, cinema screenings\, room hire\, coffee shop\, children’s parties\, class timetable\, receptions and more. \n\n\n\nAs a vibrant gathering place for the local community\, it offers a varied programme of events from film screenings\, live music\, theatre and stand-up comedy to a range of classes and workshops. \n\n\n\nAt The Beacon\, there is also a regular programme of events for the local community to participate in and enjoy\, including stand-up comedy\, live music\, theatre productions\, guest speakers\, film screenings and pantomime. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about The Beacon\, including travel\, access and venue information.
