SUMMARY:The Torpids 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Torpids\, Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Torpids\n\n\n\nThe Torpids is one of two bumping boat races in Oxford’s rowing calendar. The other is the Summer Eights. \n\n\n\nOxford‘s Torpids take place annually about the 7th week of Hilary Term (around the start of March) on four successive days from Wednesday to Saturday. \n\n\n\nThe racing takes place on The Isis\, a length of the River Thames in Oxford\, which is generally too narrow for side-by-side racing\, so the races follow the ‘Bumps’ format\, a form of rowing race in which several boats chase each other in single file\, where the aim to catch and ‘bump’ the boat ahead to climb the rankings. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor each division\, twelve boats line up at the downstream end of the stretch (near Donnington Bridge)\, each cox holding onto a rope attached to the bank\, leaving around 1.5 lengths between each. The start of racing is signalled by the firing of a cannon. There are three gun signals – a five-minute gun\, a one-minute gun and the starting gun. \n\n\n\nOnce a bump has occurred\, both crews involved in the bump stop racing and move to the side to allow the rest of the division to pass. The ultimate aim of a crew is to become ‘Head of the River’ (top of the first division) and stay there. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is possible to ‘over bump’ if the 2 crews in front of your boat bump (and so drop out)\, and your boat can catch the one in front of them. They then swap places for the next race on the next calendar day or the first day of racing in the following year’s competition. \n\n\n\nAs always\, expect the banks of the Isis to be packed full of spectators watching as the oars slice through the serene waters of the Isis. \n\n\n\nOxford University Rowing Clubs is the body within the University of Oxford that has authority over the conduct of all college crews and is responsible for organising inter-collegiate contests. \n\n\n\nIt is a confederation of the college boat clubs and the University squads Oxford University Boat Club (OUBC)\, Oxford University Women’s Boat Club (OUWBC)\, The Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club (OULRC)\, and the Oxford University Women’s Lightweight Rowing Club (OUWLRC).

SUMMARY:1984
DESCRIPTION:1984\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout 1984\n\n\n\nAward-winning Box Tale Soup presents a stunning new adaptation of Orwell’s dystopian classic\, 1984. \n\n\n\nKnown for their ingenious sets and slick storytelling\, Box Tale Soup’s unique puppetry becomes a striking metaphor for Orwell’s chilling vision of power and control. \n\n\n\nThe year is 1984\, perhaps – it is impossible to tell for certain. We are being watched\, Big Brother is everywhere\, truth changes daily\, and everyone conforms. \n\n\n\nBut for Winston Smith\, insignificant cog in the Party’s vast machine\, this half-life is not enough. He dreams of freedom\, but is he the only one? Dreams can be deadly when rebellion begins with a thought. \n\n\n\nFeaturing the voices of Sophie Aldred & Joanna Lumley\, with Simon Russell Beale as the voice of Big Brother. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“A vital watch.” ★★★★ \n\n\n\nThe List \n\n\n\n\n\n“This thought-provoking\, striking production is as relevant today as when it was first written.” ★★★★★ \n\n\n\nBritish Theatre Guide \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – £16.00 \n\n\n\nPay More – £20.00 \n\n\n\nPay Less – £12.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 05 to Friday 06 March 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 40 minutes\, including an interval \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n12+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The North Wall Arts Centre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe North Wall Arts Centre is an an award-winning theatre\, gallery and performing arts centre located in Summertown\, North Oxford. DESCRIPTION:Crazy Diamond – A Tribute to The Music of Pink Floyd\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Crazy Diamond – A Tribute to The Music of Pink Floyd\n\n\n\nCrazy Diamond plays and pays tribute to the music of Pink Floyd. \n\n\n\nThe band’s approach to Floyd’s music faithfully honours and admires the band they cover. However\, they are not afraid of interpreting with their own flavour – the music they love. \n\n\n\nWith their current show\, ‘Wish You Were Here’\, the eight-piece band provide a two hours plus set\, showcasing Floyd’s seminal/homonymous album ‘Wish You Were Here’. \n\n\n\nThis show includes other classics and fan treats such as ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’ and ‘Echoes’. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReview\n\n\n\n\n“Their ability to recreate the sounds and atmosphere is second to none. One thing is for certain\, pigs might not quite fly\, but you’re in for a great gig (pardon the pun).” \nJohn Evans of the Royal Shakespeare Company\n\n\n\n\n“Make sure you check them out.
