SUMMARY:Marquee Square Heroes: 40 years of Marillion's Misplaced Childhood
DESCRIPTION:Marquee Square Heroes: 40 years of Marillion’s Misplaced Childhood\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Marquee Square Heroes: 40 years of Marillion’s Misplaced Childhood\n\n\n\n‘Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a wall’. Marquee Square Heroes invites you to relive the shows that made Marillion one of the biggest bands in the world. \n\n\n\nBy the end of 1984 Marillion had completed their second album release and toured the UK\, Europe\, and North America to great acclaim with the Fugazi album. Demand to see the band was huge and a multitude of pirated bootleg live albums were beginning to circulate amongst their fans. EMI decided to release a live ‘mini album’\, available at a reduced price. And thus\, was born Real to Reel\, a live album that really captures the essence and spirit of the band at that time. \n\n\n\nOn reflection\, this smart\, knee-jerk decision\, enabled the band to concentrate on writing the album that became the biggest-selling album of their career Misplaced Childhood. Achieved Number 1 status in the album charts\, providing massive exposure with top 3 chart singles positions for Kayleigh and Lavender\, and a healthy chart position for Heart of Lothian too. \n\n\n\nMarquee Square Heroes: 40 years of Marillion’s Misplaced Childhood\n\n\n\nKayleigh was only kept from the top of the charts by a worthy charity single but sold well over 200\,000 copies. You couldn’t turn the Radio on in 1985 and not hear that classic song of lost love and lost opportunities. And I seriously suspect everyone knows at least one Kayleigh! \n\n\n\nThis year\, Marquee Square Heroes will recreate the shows from this key period for Marillion\, performing not only a set that reflects that tour but also performing the entire classic Misplaced Childhood album\, as intended by the band in strict running order. As well as other classics\, not necessarily performed on that tour. \n\n\n\nA show in Marillion’s hometown\, Aylesbury\, on the 40th anniversary of the album release will be a very special event and Marquee Square Heroes are delighted to celebrate this milestone in a truly significant manner\, befitting the occasion. The event will feature the cream of local talent\, including renowned musicians from the genre who have performed worldwide alongside members of Marillion. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTickets prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £22.00 \n\n\n\nNo transaction fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 26 July 2025 at 8.00pm \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nNorman Bragg Studio \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Aylesbury Waterside Theatre\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAylesbury Waterside Theatre is a stunning modern venue at the heart of Buckinghamshire’s cultural scene. \n\n\n\nOpened in 2010\, its striking wooden interior takes inspiration from the rolling Chiltern Hills\, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The theatre regularly hosts top touring productions\, offering audiences the chance to enjoy big-name shows and world-class entertainment without heading to London. \n\n\n\nDesigned for comfort and accessibility\, the venue features step-free access\, wheelchair spaces\, and hearing loop systems. Whether you’re after a hit musical\, stand-up comedy\, or a magical Christmas pantomime\, Waterside Theatre has something for everyone. \n\n\n\nSee important information about Getting there and Access here \n\n\n\nSee other shows at this venue

SUMMARY:Museum of Oxford Walks: Rash or Rational? Victorian Leisure & Entertainment
DESCRIPTION:Museum of Oxford Walks: Rash or Rational? Victorian Leisure & Entertainment\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford Walks: Rash or Rational? Victorian Leisure & Entertainment\n\n\n\nDiscover a different side of Oxford’s urban history on a walking tour through Oxford’s Victorian past. Led by local historian Liz Woolley. \n\n\n\nExplore the Oxford of the Victorian age and find out what Victorian Oxford did for fun on this unique 90-minute circular walking tour visiting the sites of historic entertainment venues in the city centre.  \n\n\n\nLed by local historian Liz Woolley\, this city walking tour will introduce you to a different side of Oxford’s urban history. See the ‘city of dreaming spires’ from the perspective of ordinary townspeople\, who found themselves with leisure time – and the money to spend on it – for the first time.  \n\n\n\nYou will learn about both the rash and the rational sides of Victorian entertainment\, visiting sites including the Pembroke Street Public Baths\, where you could be attended by a “first-class shampooer and teacher of swimming”\, and the YMCA on George Street which promised to guide young men away from the “temptations of city life”.  \n\n\n\nAs part of the tour\, you will see: The Town Hall and Public Library\, the Wilberforce Temperance Hotel (where alcohol was banned)\, The Jolly Farmers Pub\, and the New Theatre – plus more historic Oxford locations!  \n\n\n\nJoin our Rash or Rational? Victorian Leisure and Entertainment Walk to see Oxford through the eyes of an expert and discover a different side to this famous city’s history.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that this tour was previously run under the name ‘Leisure and Entertainment in Victorian and Edwardian Oxford’.  \n\n\n\nAccessibility and further information \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Museum of Oxford shop (located inside the Oxford Town Hall). Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of the walk and check in at the Museum Shop with our friendly front-of-house team.  \n\n\n\nThe walk lasts 1.5 hours.   \n\n\n\nThe itinerary includes cobbled streets\, uneven surfaces\, and narrow pavements. One of the stops involves going through Whatsheaf Yard which is very narrow and has an uneven surface. An alternative route to the next stop is available through St Aldate’s. Please email museum@oxford.gov.uk if you would like to discuss any access requirements ahead of booking a walk.  \n\n\n\nMeet your tour guide: Liz Woolley \n\n\n\nLiz Woolley is a local historian specialising in the history of Oxford’s ‘town’ – as opposed to ‘gown’ – and of the everyday lives of ordinary working people\, chiefly during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Liz has lived in Oxford for forty years and has an MSc in English Local History from the University’s Department for Continuing Education. She is an experienced tour guide\, speaker\, tutor\, researcher\, and writer\, who enjoys helping people discover the perhaps less well-known history of Oxford and its citizens. \n\n\n\nAccess at the Museum \n\n\n\nThe Museum is accessible for wheelchair users\, buggies\, and baby carriers. There is step-free\, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum\, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift and lift to the basement level. Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor\, before entering the Museum. \n\n\n\nPlease contact the Museum team if you’d like to talk to a member of staff about your access requirements. Further access information can be found on our website: https://museumofoxford.org/plan-your-visit/access \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £15.00 \n\n\n\nTickets are available to purchase online (booking fee of £1.96 applies) or at the Museum shop.  \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nWednesday 09 April 2025 at 2.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 30 minutes \n\n\n\nAge guidance:  \n\n\n\n16+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Museum of Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Museum of Oxford is the only museum dedicated to telling the story of Oxford and its people. Located inside the Oxford Town Hall\, it explores the city’s rich history beyond the university\, focusing on the lives\, industries\, and communities that have shaped Oxford over time. \n\n\n\nThe museum features interactive exhibits\, local artefacts\, and personal stories\, covering topics such as Oxford’s medieval origins\, its diverse communities\, and key moments in its development. It also hosts temporary exhibitions\, events\, and activities for all ages. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about the Museum of Oxford.

SUMMARY:British Transplant Games 2025
DESCRIPTION:Various venues across Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBritish Transplant Games 2025\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout British Transplant Games 2025\n\n\n\nOxford is set to host the Westfield Health British Transplant Games\, the flagship event of charity Transplant Sport\, for the first time in 2025. Organised by Transplant Active – formerly known as Transplant Sport – this annual four-day event celebrates transplants\, donors and life. \n\n\n\nThe Games aim to raise awareness of the life-saving benefits of organ transplantation and demonstrate the transformative power of organ donation while encouraging transplant recipients to stay active post-recovery. \n\n\n\nOne of the UK’s biggest multi-sport festivals\, transplanted athletes of all abilities ranging from the age of three to 80 plus\, from over 60 hospital teams across the UK\, will represent their transplant unit in 24 different events with the support of family\, friends\, and volunteers. \n\n\n\nWhat is the British Transplant Games\n\n\n\nThe British Transplant Games are the flagship project of the charity Transplant Active – formerly known as Transplant Sport – and has been in existence for over 40 years since the first “Transplant Olympics” took place in Portsmouth in 1978. \n\n\n\nAt that time\, these Games were an international event that included teams from France\, Greece and even the USA. Since these early beginnings with competitors\, affectionately known as “99 blooming miracles”\, the Games have grown and are held in different cities throughout the UK every year. \n\n\n\nThe British Transplant Games have been staged annually since 1978 in 17 host cities across the UK\, including Portsmouth (1994)\, Edinburgh (2007)\, Belfast (1998) Medway (2012)\, Sheffield (2013)\, Bolton (2014)\, Newcastle Gateshead (2015)\, Liverpool (2016)\, North Lanarkshire (2017)\, Birmingham (2018)\, Newport (2019) and Leeds (2022). \n\n\n\nNowadays\, the British Transplant Games sees up to 2\,500 people of all ages and abilities come together to take part in a wide range of sporting events. They have one crucial thing in common: they have all had life-changing transplants. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProvisional schedule\n\n\n\nWednesday 30 July \n\n\n\nTimeEventLocation5.00pm–7.30pmRegistrationWhite Horse Leisure Centre\n\n\n\nThursday 31 July \n\n\n\nTimeEventLocation10.00am–4.30pmArcheryBlenheim Palace10.00am–4.30pmLive Donor ArcheryBlenheim Palace12.00pm–3.30pmVolleyballIffley Road University of Oxford Sport12.30pm–3.30pmPractice GolfThe Oxfordshire1.30pm–4.30pmSnookerThame Snooker Club1.30pm–3.30pmSquashIffley Road University of Oxford Sport1.30pm–5.00pmChildren’s Table TennisWhite Horse Leisure Centre5.00pm–6.00pmCivic ReceptionBlenheim Palace5.30pm–8.00pmOpening CeremonyBlenheim Palace\n\n\n\nFriday 01 August \n\n\n\nTimeEventLocation10.00am–4.30pmArcheryBlenheim Palace10.00am–4.30pmLive Donor ArcheryBlenheim Palace12.00pm–3.30pmVolleyballIffley Road University of Oxford Sport12.30pm–3.30pmPractice GolfThe Oxfordshire1.30pm–4.30pmSnookerThame Snooker Club1.30pm–3.30pmSquashIffley Road University of Oxford Sport1.30pm–5.00pmChildren’s Table TennisWhite Horse Leisure Centre5.00pm–6.00pmCivic ReceptionBlenheim Palace5.30pm–8.00pmOpening CeremonyBlenheim Palace\n\n\n\nSaturday 02 August \n\n\n\nTimeEventLocation8.30am–12.30pmBadmintonWhite Horse Leisure Centre9.00am–5.30pmBowlsOxford City & County Bowls Club9.30am–12.30pmChildren’s SwimmingLeys Pools and Leisure Centre9.30am–12.30pmLive Donor SwimmingLeys Pools and Leisure Centre9.30am–1.30pm6 A Side FootballThe MGroup Stadium10.00am–3.00pmWalkTilsley Park10.00am–3.00pmChildren’s WalkTilsley Park11.00am–12.30pmChildren’s U5’s ArcheryLeys Pools and Leisure Centre11.00am–12.30pmChildren’s U5’s Long JumpLeys Pools and Leisure Centre11.00am–12.30pmChildren’s U5s Sport StackingLeys Pools and Leisure Centre1.30pm–5.30pmSwimmingLeys Pools and Leisure Centre1.30pm–5.30pmChildren’s BadmintonWhite Horse Leisure Centre1.30pm–4.30pmChildren’s 5 A Side FootballTilsley Park6.30pm–9.00pmRoad RaceBlenheim Palace6.30pm–9.00pmChildren’s Road RaceBlenheim Palace6.30pm–9.00pmLive Donor Road RaceBlenheim Palace7.00pm–9.30pmDonor Run**Please note the Donor Run is an open eventBlenheim Palace\n\n\n\nSunday 03 August \n\n\n\nTimeEventLocation9.30am–4.00pmTennisWhite Horse Leisure Centre9.00am–5.30pmTrack and FieldTilsley Park9.00am–3.30pmChildren’s Track and FieldTilsley Park9.00am–5.30pmLive Donor Track and FieldTilsley Park10.00am–3.00pmPetanqueBlenheim Palace1.30pm–2.00pmHandover Ceremony to 2026 British Transplant Games HostsTilsley Park
