SUMMARY:Ella Al-Shamahi: Becoming Human
DESCRIPTION:Ella Al-Shamahi: Becoming Human\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ella Al-Shamahi: Becoming Human\n\n\n\nThis is the story of Homo sapiens… us. \n\n\n\nHost of BBC landmark show Human\, Ella Al-Shamahi\, palaeoanthropologist\, TV presenter\, explorer and stand up\, presents a talk on our remarkable origin story. \n\n\n\nOnce upon a time\, we shared this planet with many species of humans – it has been said that our world was a bit like The Lord of the Rings. To start with\, we Homo sapiens weren’t that remarkable; our origins were\, in fact\, rather humble and yet somehow today we are the only ones left. \n\n\n\nBut we didn’t just survive against all odds\, we thrived\, innovated and travelled like no other species of human – becoming the explorer species who built cities\, iPhones and painted the Sistine Chapel. Our success was profound\, but how on Earth did it happen and at what cost? \n\n\n\nElla Al-Shamahi started studying evolution as a creationist and so she interweaves her own story\, demonstrating the power of tribalism not just in the past\, but also in the present. Expect a talk that draws on the latest discoveries\, heart\, humour and wild expedition stories. \n\n\n\nAl-Shamahi is a National Geographic Explorer specialising in searching for fossils in Palaeolithic caves in politically unstable\, hostile and disputed territories. She is the presenter of HUMAN\, a flagship BBC/PBS science series\, as well as other TV and radio shows. SUMMARY:The Summer Eights 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Summer Eights\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Summer Eights\n\n\n\nOxford’s iconic bumps regatta \n\n\n\nThe Summer Eights is one of two bumping boat races in Oxford’s rowing calendar\, alongside the Torpids. The regatta takes place each May over four successive days\, from Wednesday to Saturday of the fifth week of Trinity Term\, drawing spectators and rowing enthusiasts from across the city and beyond. \n\n\n\nRacing on the Isis \n\n\n\nThe races are held on the Isis\, a stretch of the River Thames in Oxford. The river is generally too narrow for side-by-side racing\, so crews compete in the traditional ‘Bumps’ format. In this style of racing\, boats chase each other in single file\, aiming to catch and ‘bump’ the crew ahead to move up the rankings. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor each division\, twelve boats line up at the downstream end near Donnington Bridge\, with each cox holding onto a rope attached to the bank\, leaving roughly 1.5 lengths between boats. Racing begins with a series of cannon signals: a five-minute gun\, a one-minute gun\, and the starting gun. \n\n\n\nWhen a bump occurs\, both crews involved stop racing and move aside to allow the rest of the division to pass. The ultimate aim is to become Head of the River and retain the top position. It is also possible to over-bump\, where a boat overtakes the one ahead if the two crews in front have already bumped\, swapping places for the following day or next year. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpectator experience \n\n\n\nExpect the banks of the Isis to be packed with spectators\, enjoying the excitement as oars slice through the serene waters. The atmosphere combines tradition\, competition\, and community\, making Summer Eights one of Oxford’s most cherished sporting events. \n\n\n\nThe regatta is organised by Oxford University Rowing Clubs\, the confederation overseeing all college crews and inter-collegiate contests within the University of Oxford. This includes the Oxford University Boat Club (OUBC)\, Oxford University Women’s Boat Club (OUWBC)\, the Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club (OULRC)\, and the Oxford University Women’s Lightweight Rowing Club (OUWLRC).

DESCRIPTION:The Seven Sins of Tango by Candlelight\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Seven Sins of Tango by Candlelight\n\n\n\nSeven Sins of Tango is the powerful and exciting new show for 2026\, bringing the smouldering soundworld of Argentine tango vividly to life. \n\n\n\nPerformed by a 12-piece ensemble from the world-renowned London Concertante\, the programme brings the art of tango to life in all its raw\, unbridled intensity\, with fresh colours from Buenos Aires filling the space with sound. \n\n\n\nThe concert unfolds across seven musical chapters\, each inspired by one of the deadly sins: Lust\, Gluttony\, Greed\, Sloth\, Wrath\, Envy\, and Pride. Together\, they form a compelling narrative arc that explores the dark origins\, passion\, rebellion\, and irresistible allure at the heart of tango. \n\n\n\nThe programme features iconic works by Astor Piazzolla (Suite del Diablo – Suite of the Devil)\, Francisco de Caro (Orgullo Criollo – Creole Pride)\, and Jacob Gade (Jalousie – Jealousy)\, with new arrangements by celebrated pianist and composer David Gordon\, breathing fresh life into tango’s sensual and fiery soundworld. \n\n\n\nEnhancing the music\, two champion tango dancers appear on stage at key moments\, bringing selected pieces to life through expressive choreography that reflects the emotional intensity of the score. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £26.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nFriday 29 May 2026 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6.45pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n2 hours\, including an interval

She is arguably the world’s favourite female artist – beloved by young and old. \n\n\n\nExhibition on Screen’s award-winning film – first released during COVID to a restricted audience – is back by popular demand with an exciting new addition from the blockbuster transatlantic exhibition from Tate Britain and MFA Houston\, ‘Frida Kahlo: the Making of an Icon’. \n\n\n\nBack in the cinemas in May 2026\, one month before the Tate exhibition opens\, allowing audiences to watch both the film and see the show. \n\n\n\nWho was Frida Kahlo? Everyone knows her face\, but who was the woman behind the bright colours\, the big brows and the floral crowns? Take a journey through the life of a true icon\, discover her art\, and uncover the true story of her rebellious\, passionate and turbulent life. \n\n\n\nMaking use of the latest technology to deliver previously unimaginable quality\, we take an in-depth look at key works throughout her career. Using letters Kahlo wrote to guide us\, this definitive film reveals her deepest emotions and unlocks the secrets and symbolism contained within her art. \n\n\n\nExhibition on Screen’s trademark combination of interviews with those who knew her and world experts\, commentary and a detailed exploration of her art\, combined with new special bonus footage from the 2026 Tate exhibition\, delivers a treasure trove of colour and emotion. \n\n\n\nThis personal and intimate film offers privileged access to her works\, her home\, her studio and highlights the source of her feverish creativity\, her resilience and her unmatched lust for life\, beauty and revolution. \n\n\n\nCreated in close collaboration with world experts and those who knew her. \n\n\n\nAdditional new material from the curators of the groundbreaking new Tate Britain and MFA Houston exhibition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nStandard – £19.50 \n\n\n\nUnder 16s – £14.50 \n\n\n\nAll prices include any booking fees \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSunday 31 May 2026 at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 30 minutes \n\n\n\nFilm rating: \n\n\n\nPG \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Theatre Chipping Norton\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe Theatre Chipping Norton\, sometimes called The Theatre\, Chipping Norton or Chipping Norton Theatre\, is a theatre\, an arthouse cinema\, a gallery and a concert hall in Chipping Norton. \n\n\n\nThe theatre has has 217 seats\, including stalls and a balcony. SUMMARY:Beth Hart
DESCRIPTION:Beth Hart\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Beth Hart\n\n\n\nIf you have ever seen Beth Hart live or immersed yourself in her music\, you know she puts every ounce of her being into her songs. For all of those empathetic superpowers\, she also needs someone to catch her when she falls. Firebrands inspire; it’s what attracts people to them. \n\n\n\nHowever\, part of those personalities’ makeup is that they do not wear a harness. They thrive on the freedom and space around them. But\, with that comes danger; you need an emotional crash mat\, and those save lives. It is something we all need at times throughout our lives. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Beth Hart\n\n\n\nBeth says about the title track\, “This is a true story. I had a moment where I wasn’t in a positive mood\, and I was hanging out on the couch\, crying pretty hard\, and Scott said\, ‘Hey\, do you need a hug?’ I said\, ‘I’ve got nothing inside left to love\, and he said\, you still got me. \n\n\n\n“I said\, hang on a minute; I’ll be right back. I went downstairs and used those words and how he said it. You say something like that\, and someone you love says back\, but you’ve still got me. It’s true. If I’ve still got him\, I’ve still got everything.” \n\n\n\nYou can see this in the ‘You Still Got Me’ video\, poignantly featuring her beloved husband\, Scott. Along with the team around her\, provide that surface to fall on when she needs it. Her fans adore her\, and the feeling is replicated. You can see that night after night on tour\, the adulation she receives and that she also gives back\, which is why there is a bond like few other artists have. \n\n\n\nThat connection has been forged over the last 28 years of releasing music in which she unapologetically wears her heart on her sleeve – like a warrior. Which is precisely what she is. \n\n\n\nIt’s okay not to be okay. It’s okay to struggle sometimes\, and it takes enormous strength to open yourself up to help. Reaching out a hand to have someone hold on to it is strength. This is something that we can all learn. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £66.50 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nThursday 04 June 2026 \n\n\n\nDoors open at 7.00pm \n\n\n\nShow start: TBC \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\nThis show has an interval \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n14+ \n\n\n\nUnder 16s to be accompanied by an adult. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. SUMMARY:Ray LaMontagne
DESCRIPTION:Ray LaMontagne\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ray LaMontagne\n\n\n\nGrammy Award winner Ray LaMontagne will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his acclaimed debut album Trouble with a UK tour in 2026 — his first tour in the UK since 2018. \n\n\n\nLaMontagne will perform Trouble in its entirety for the first time since the album’s release 20 years ago. Marking the anniversary and the tour announcement on social media\, he reflected: \n\n\n\n“Twenty years. Two decades. That’s a lot of water under the bridge.
