SUMMARY:Tim Rice - My Life in Musicals - I Know Him so Well
DESCRIPTION:Tim Rice – My Life in Musicals – I Know Him so Well\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Tim Rice – My Life in Musicals – I Know Him so Well\n\n\n\nDue to popular demand\, following his sell-out tour\, Sir Tim Rice\, the multi-award-winning\, internationally renowned lyricist\, will return to theatre stages with his extraordinary live musical theatre event – My Life In Musicals – I Know Him So Well. \n\n\n\nThe show will see Tim Rice reflect on his illustrious career at the heart of musical theatre\, sharing anecdotes behind the songs – the hits and the misses along with stories of his life and live performances from the wonderful catalogue of songs that are synonymous with his name and that of his collaborators. Musical accompaniment will be from an array of some of the UK’s leading West End singers and musicians led by Musical Director Duncan Waugh. \n\n\n\nTim is associated with writing the lyrics for so many of the world’s much-loved hit musicals – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat\, Jesus Christ Superstar\, Evita\, Chess\, and the Disney productions The Lion King\, Aladdin\, and Beauty and the Beast. His work has not been limited to musical theatre alone with Evita transferring to the big screen and theme music for the James Bond movie Octopussy. \n\n\n\nWith the show packed full of songs including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina\, Any Dream Will Do\, A Whole New World\, Can You Feel The Love Tonight\, I Don’t Know How To Love Him\, Circle of Life\, Chess\, Hakuna Matata\, Another Suitcase in Another Hall\, I Know Him So Well\, All Time High\, Must Love Me\, One Night In Bangkok\, My Life In Musicals is an absolute must for fans of musical theatre and brilliant music. \n\n\n\nRegarded by many as one of the world’s greatest lyricists Tim Rice commented “My Life in Musicals is a show in which I reveal all (well\, nearly all) of the secrets behind the creation of some of the best-known songs featuring my lyrics. I have had the good fortune to work with some of the greatest composers of our time\, including Andrew Lloyd Webber\, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson\, Elton John\, and Alan Menken\, without whose wonderful melodies I’d be at home watching television. \n\n\n\nYou’ll probably know quite a few of the songs – and will therefore be relieved to hear I won’t be singing them. All musical aspects of the show I hand over to the outstanding Duncan Waugh Band and West End Singers. There will be plenty of stops in between the hits during which I’ll tell you how they happened and\, in some cases\, nearly didn’t. Actually\, I might sing a little – but not Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking Information\n\n\n\nTicket Prices:From £29.50 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95. \n\n\n\nDate & time:Thursday 15 May 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. SUMMARY:Dean Friedman – In Concert
DESCRIPTION:Dean Friedman – In Concert\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Dean Friedman – In Concert\n\n\n\nHailed by critics and fans alike as one of the finest songwriters of his generation\, Dean Friedman has achieved legendary\, pop-icon status for chart-topping hits\, ‘Ariel’\, ‘Lucky Stars’\, ‘Lydia’\, ‘McDonald’s Girl’\, and more. \n\n\n\nFollowing Friedman’s sold-out\, 40th Anniversary Tour\, Friedman returns to the stage armed with a stunning collection of his insightful and compelling\, true-to-life ‘story songs’ – songs of pathos and humour that deal with family\, friends\, neighbours\, work\, and the seemingly trivial\, yet ultimately essential stuff of everyday life. \n\n\n\nIn addition to his familiar radio hits\, album releases\, and touring\, Friedman composes and produces music soundtracks for TV and film\, including the music to the hit Central TV series BOON\, NBC’s Eerie Indiana\, Nickelodeon’s Nick Arcade\, and the indie horror classic\, I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle. \n\n\n\nHe’s also published a respected tome on the art and craft of songwriting titled The Songwriter’s Handbook\, based on songwriting workshops and songwriting masterclasses he’s conducted at universities and music conservatories around the world\, including L.I.P.A. (the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts). \n\n\n\nA consummate entertainer\, Friedman will be performing solo\, on guitar and keyboard\, featuring songs from throughout his four-decade career\, including familiar radio hits and fan favourites\, drawn from his eight studio albums. Invite family and friends and join Friedman for an evening of powerful\, poignant\, and hilarious songs about the ordinary and extraordinary lives we share. \n\n\n\nWith special guest Boothby Graffoe \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews for Dean Friedman\n\n\n\n\n“Soundtrack of our lives!” \n\n\n\nNY Times \n\n\n\n“Songsmith extraordinaire!” \n\n\n\nMusicWeek \n\n\n\n“Dean Friedman is entirely unique and utterly brilliant.” \n\n\n\nThreeWeeks \n\n\n\n“Stunning Musicianship!” \n\n\n\nHot Press \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews for Boothby Graffoe\n\n\n\n\n“Boothby Graffoe is a multi-talented\, darkly hilarious\, grade A British eccentric\, who can twist your funny bone one minute\, and break your heart the next. SUMMARY:The Sixteen’s 2025 Choral Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Sixteen’s 2025 Choral Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Sixteen’s 2025 Choral Workshop\n\n\n\nOur 2025 Choral Workshops are a rare and rewarding opportunity for keen amateur singers to explore a variety of music inspired by The Sixteen’s own Choral Pilgrimage. \n\n\n\nUnder the guidance of conductor Olivia Shotton and Sixteen soprano Julie Cooper\, the workshop includes advice on vocal technique (breathing technique\, invigorating warm-ups\, voice production) as well as performance interpretation and historical context. \n\n\n\nThe repertoire will be based on music from our 2025 Choral Pilgrimage: Angel of Peace\, which offers a slice of tranquillity in many forms courtesy of luminous\, purifying music traversing six centuries. From the enraptured songs of the medieval abbess Hildegard of Bingen to the magical realm of a brand new work by the contemporary composer Anna Clyne\, nine pieces of music from across the centuries speak of peace and acceptance and the ecstatic joy their reassurance can bring. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\n\nJohn Taverner \n\n\n\n‘Agnus Dei’ (III – excerpt) from Western Wind Mass\n\n\n\nArvo Pärt \n\n\n\nTribute to Caesar\n\n\n\n\nListen to the two tracks on Spotify here – https://spoti.fi/4gWVH3N?r=qr \n\n\n\nMusic\, plus supporting resources\, will be sent out at least one month before the workshop date. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Leaders \n\n\n\nOlivia Shotton \n\n\n\nOlivia is a graduate of our Genesis Sixteen Conducting Scholar programme (2023) and received intensive training from both Harry and Eamonn during this time. \n\n\n\nOlivia conducts a range of professional and amateur ensembles. Her recent engagements include Assistant Conductor for La Bohème (Longborough Festival Opera)\, Deputy Conductor for Messiah (The Merry Opera Company)\, Assistant Chorusmaster for Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 (Royal Academy of Music)\, and Assistant Musical Director for Hansel and Gretel (British Youth Opera). She was a Grand Finalist in the London International Choral Conducting Competition 2024. \n\n\n\nOlivia graduated with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music\, receiving the DipRam award for outstanding performance and the Sir Thomas Armstrong Choral Leadership Prize. Subsequently\, she was appointed as a Fellow at the Academy\, where she founded The CONVENTional Project\, a professional early music ensemble specialising in Italian convent music. \n\n\n\nOlivia sings professionally with Tenebrae\, London Voices\, and at the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula. \n\n\n\nJulie Cooper \n\n\n\nJulie has been a regular member of The Sixteen for nearly 30 years. It has provided her with a husband (Ben Davies\, Baritone)\, career highlights\, and the very best musical family. \n\n\n\nJulie started her musical journey aged four\, singing along to her Dad’s opera recordings. Much to his disappointment\, she has never sung the role of Brunnhilde\, but never say never. \n\n\n\nSince completing her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music\, Julie has performed as a consort singer and soloist around the world\, singing with most of the UK’s choral ensembles. Equally at home singing Brahms’ Requiem or Arvo Part’s Stabat Mater\, it is always her love of choral music and live performance that remains. \n\n\n\nHighlights with The Sixteen include singing James Macmillan’s Stabat Mater in the Sistine Chapel and performing as the soprano soloist in the world premiere of his Le Grand Inconnu. \n\n\n\nAs well as performing\, Julie is a vocal coach and Nutritional Therapist\, with a particular interest in vocal health and wellbeing. As well as running her own clinic\, Julie regularly delivers talks to singers and students\, workshops for musicians and vocal organisations\, and is increasingly in demand for her knowledge and expertise relating to women’s health in the workplace. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£30.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nSaturday 17 May 2025 at 11.30am \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n3 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout SJE Arts Oxford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSJE Arts Oxford is a concert venue and arts organisation based at St John the Evangelist Church on Iffley Road\, Oxford. \n\n\n\nThe church itself was built in the 19th century as part of a monastery established by the Cowley Fathers\, an Anglican religious community. SUMMARY:Gyles Brandreth: Can't Stop Talking!!!
DESCRIPTION:Gyles Brandreth: Can’t Stop Talking!!!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Gyles Brandreth: Can’t Stop Talking!!!\n\n\n\nHe is back – and he is unstoppable. Gyles Brandreth can’t stop talking. \n\n\n\nThe jumper-loving This Morning star\, who keeps popping up on Pointless\, QI\, Would I Lie To You?\, Sunday Brunch\, and The One Show\, has been burbling and babbling since he was a baby\, and in his hilarious new one-man show the award-winning raconteur (and holder of the world record for the longest-ever after-dinner speech – 12 and a half hours!) is trying to work out why. \n\n\n\nFrom 40 years on Radio 4’s Just A Minute to 4 years on Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox\, he can’t keep his mouth shut. He even talks in his sleep. What’s it all about? He will tell you – because this is his life story: a roller-coaster of tales and revelations from his unlikely life in show business and politics. \n\n\n\nThere will be surprises too (for him and you) when the audience spins a wheel to decide what he will talk about next. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss him – novelist\, actor\, ex-MP\, podcaster\, No. 1 best-selling biographer\, wordsmith\, and verbivore (he suffers from logorrhea – knows how to spell it and knows what it means) – he’s won the Audience Award for Most Popular Show on the Fringe\, multiple 5-star reviews and every time he’s been to Edinburgh his shows have sold out. Fast. So book now. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews\n\n\n\n\n“Wildly funny” \n\n\n\nDaily Mail \n\n\n\n\n\n“Absolute joy” \n\n\n\nScotsman \n\n\n\n\n\n“Genius” \n\n\n\nTelegraph \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\nFrom £37.40 \n\n\n\nTickets are subject to a transaction fee of £3.95. \n\n\n\nDate and time: \n\n\n\nSunday 18 May 2025 at 3.00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrigger warning\n\n\n\nThere may be name-dropping. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout New Theatre Oxford\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nThere has been a theatre on George Street for almost 170 years. As per – expect magic\, music\, and a whole load of brand-new mistakes. \n\n\n\nNick Mohammed is Mr Swallow: Show Pony\n\n\n\nNick Mohammed is one of the UK’s most celebrated comedians\, actors\, and writers. Nick has received feverish critical acclaim for his previous Mr. Swallow shows Dracula\, Houdini\, and A Christmas Carol-ish… alongside his first UK tour The Very Best & Worst of Mr. Swallow. \n\n\n\nMr. Swallow has appeared in Dictionary Corner on numerous episodes of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown\, with clips of his performances quickly going viral\, along with entertaining the great and the good at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards\, with frankly terrifying results! \n\n\n\nNick plays Nate in Apple TV’s hit multi-award-winning series Ted Lasso\, for which he was nominated twice for Outstanding Supporting Actor at the Emmy Awards. He has recently been seen starring in Sally Wainwright’s Renegade Nell (Disney+) and Steven Moffat’s Douglas Is Cancelled (ITV). Nick created\, wrote\, and starred (alongside David Schwimmer) in his own Sky TV hit show Intelligence. \n\n\n\nOther appearances include Stath Lets Flats (Channel 4)\, Inside No. 9 (BBC)\, and This Time with Alan Partridge (BBC)\, and he’ll soon be seen starring alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Orlando Bloom in Prime Video’s Deep Cover. SUMMARY:Suddenly Last Summer
DESCRIPTION:Suddenly Last Summer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Suddenly Last Summer\n\n\n\nBy Tennessee Williams \n\n\n\n‘Suddenly last summer… beneath the white-hot blazing sun of Cabeza de Lobo… I saw Cousin Sebastian die…’ \n\n\n\nA summer afternoon. The aging Mrs Venable brings her niece\, Cathy\, to the monstrous garden of her recently deceased son – a mysterious figure rumoured to have died in grotesque circumstances. The only witness to his death\, the source of these rumours\, and seemingly mad\, Cathy has been brought here to be silenced once and for all… \n\n\n\nSuddenly Last Summer is Tennessee Williams’ most shocking play\, a Southern Gothic drama about saintliness\, insanity\, and cannibalism\, but also a tender exploration into the loneliness common to all humanity and the way it can distort our love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nTicket prices: \n\n\n\n£6.00 – £8.00 \n\n\n\nDates & times: \n\n\n\nTuesday 20 to Saturday 24 May 2025 at 7.30pm \n\n\n\nRunning time: \n\n\n\n1 hour 20 minutes \n\n\n\nAge guidance: \n\n\n\n16+ \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nBT Studio \n\n\n\nWarning: \n\n\n\nIncludes some sexual references\, violence\, and mild swearing \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Playhouse\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse and its Burton Taylor Studio present and produce several live performances and feature a rich array of British and international dramas\, family entertainment\, contemporary dance and music\, student and amateur shows\, comedy\, lectures and poetry. \n\n\n\nThe Playhouse not only produces and tours its own theatrical productions\, but it also fosters creativity through its Artists in Residence program and the Playhouse Plays Out series\, which brings unique events to various locations across the county. \n\n\n\nThe theatre’s Participation Team engages over 15\,000 individuals annually\, offering an extensive range of activities\, including post-show discussions\, workshops\, work experience opportunities\, holiday programs\, a youth theatre\, and a company for young performers. \n\n\n\nOxford Playhouse stands dedicated to its mission of being a Playhouse for all\, striving to ignite inspiration and bring about transformative experiences through its commitment to creativity on its stages\, within its community and online. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about Oxford Playhouse\, including travel\, access and venue information.
