SUMMARY:Oxford Piano Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Piano Festival \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Oxford Piano Festival 2026\n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival 2026 will take place from Saturday\, 25 July to Sunday\, 02 August – nine days of piano festivities\, with a packed schedule of masterclasses and concerts from top names in the piano world. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival was founded in 1999 by Marios Papadopoulos\, renowned pianist and Music Director of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. Each year\, the Festival welcomes piano players and pedagogues\, experts and enthusiasts\, to some of Oxford’s most historic venues\, such as Sir Christopher Wren’s Sheldonian Theatre\, the Holywell Music Room\, and Christ Church Cathedral. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival takes place in the last week of July on the tranquil and scenic campus of St Hilda’s College\, Oxford\, home of the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building\, and located just a short walk from the city centre. \n\n\n\nThe Oxford Piano Festival’s objective is simple: to inspire\, support and encourage music-making at the piano of the highest quality. Welcoming world-renowned soloists and teachers each year\, the Festival provides gifted young players with a rare opportunity to work alongside and learn from some of the world’s finest pianists and teachers\, to perform and learn new repertoire\, as part of a dedicated community of artists which encourages exchange over competition. \n\n\n\nThe concept of the pianist as musician lies at the heart of the Festival. The various roles of the pianist – as virtuoso\, chamber musician\, accompanist\, conductor\, academic and teacher – are all examined. As part of this holistic approach\, the various international schools of piano playing are considered. \n\n\n\nWith Alfred Brendel as the Festival’s Patron\, Sir András Schiff as President\, and the Festival’s founder Marios Papadopoulos a renowned pianist himself\, the bar is set very high in terms of quality and artistic integrity. \n\n\n\nPrevious participants at the Festival have gone on to achieve great success. Notable alumni include Alim Beisembayev (winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition 2021)\, Martin James Bartlett\, Mark Viner\, Alexander Ullman\, Mishka Rushdie-Momen and Denis Kozhukhin. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlights from past events\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook tickets via the festival website or call Oxford Philharmonic‘s Box Office on 01865 980980 (Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm). \n\n\n\nPlease see important booking information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\n\nPrices:See individual events for prices. \n\n\n\nRunning time:See individual events for running times. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenues

In 1979 Fairport decided to call it a day and\, having opened up for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in the early afternoon\, tore across the country in their van to do an outdoor Farewell concert at Peewit Farm on Station Road in Cropredy. \n\n\n\nA year later\, they decided to reconvene with some friends for what would become their annual reunion. Although they had performed in Cropredy before\, 1980 is the year Fairport recognise as the first Cropredy Festival. The festival has continued (on various sites\, including Broughton Castle) up to the present day\, increasing in size from a couple of thousand to its current capacity of 20\,000. \n\n\n\nCropredy is a music festival – it could never be pigeon-holed as a folk festival. Along with the finest in folk and folk-rock – Lindisfarne\, Julie Fowlis\, Steeleye Span\, Ralph McTell\, Cara Dillon – the Cropredy audience has witnessed the likes of Alice Cooper\, Robert Plant\, Status Quo\, Steve Winwood and Buzzcocks. Basically\, whatever music Fairport like is what ends up on the bill. \n\n\n\nAnd\, bucking current trends\, the Cropredy Festival has always stuck to the one-stage idea. The advantage to the customer is that they won’t miss anyone. The advantage to the performer is that no matter how far down the bill they are\, they are guaranteed to be performing in front of at least 10k people. Beats being stuck in an ‘Unsigned’ tent in some remote corner of a forgotten field for sure. \n\n\n\nThe Cropredy ‘Fringe’ – entertainment provided by the two pubs in the village – act as satellite stages. Indeed\, many of the acts that have appeared at the festival have performed at The Brasenose Arms and The Red Lion on their way.

Further No.1 albums\, Wild World and Give Me The Future\, along with the Marshmello collaboration Happier — now streamed over 7 billion times — have cemented their global success. \n\n\n\nFollowing the 10-year anniversary of Bad Blood in 2023\, including sold-out shows and a reworked Pompeii with Hans Zimmer\, Bastille are ready for a highly anticipated live return. The fair dates back to 1625 when it was a parish festival to celebrate the feast of the patron saint\, St Giles\, and is held on the Monday and Tuesday following the first Sunday after St Giles’ Day (01 September). \n\n\n\nIn the 18th century\, it was a toy fair\, and then in the early 19th century\, it was a general children’s fair. The funfair grew during mid and late Victorian times when improved means of transport meant that large numbers of people could be brought into the city to attend the festivities. It was also when the forerunners of today’s rides were first developed following advances in mechanical engineering. \n\n\n\nNow run by Oxford City Council\, the St Giles’ fair is probably the largest of its kind in Europe taking up all of St Giles’ even Magdalen Street by Elliston and Cavell’s right up to and beyond the War Memorial\, at the meeting of the Woodstock and Banbury roads. \n\n\n\nThe street is closed to traffic on the two days in September for this traditional fair. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVideo montage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQs)\n\n\n\nWhen is the St Giles’ Fair in 2026?In 2025\, the St Giles’ Fair will take place on Monday 07 and Tuesday 08 September\, from 11.00am to 11.00pm on both days. However\, there will be a limited amount of changing space available for runners to use\, which will be located close to the bag drop area. \n\n\n\nThe Race Day Guide will have more information and will be available 2 weeks prior to the event and emailed to all runners! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre there toilets on the course?+\n\n\n\n\nThere will be toilet stops at various stages throughout the course\, including: \n\n\n\n\nJust after mile four.\n\n\n\nMidway between miles six and seven.\n\n\n\nJust before mile eight.\n\n\n\nShortly before mile ten.\n\n\n\nJust before mile 12.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill there be first aid stations as well?+\n\n\n\n\nYes\, there will be first aid stations at the same distances as the above toilets. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd water stops?+\n\n\n\n\nRunners can bring their own supply of water\, but there will also be water stops at the following distances: \n\n\n\n\nJust after mile four.\n\n\n\nJust before mile eight.\n\n\n\nShortly before mile ten.\n\n\n\nJust after mile 12.\n\n\n\nThere will also be energy drink on offer to runners at mile at Aid Station 2 (Mile 6.4)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan runners wear headphones?+\n\n\n\n\nYou are more than welcome to run with headphones\, however\, the organisers recommend running without so you can listen for any instructions from route marshals and soak up the amazing route entertainment & atmosphere! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow long do runners have to complete the race?+\n\n\n\n\nRunners have 3 hours and 30 minutes to finish the race. After the three-and-a-half hours cut-off time\, runners will not be stopped. Instead\, stewards will ask any runners left to move to the pavement so streets can reopen. Their medals will still be waiting for them at the finish line. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get to the Oxford Half Marathon?+\n\n\n\n\nAs always\, if you can’t get there by foot\, we advice you to travel by public transport. Any runners relying on travelling by car\, however\, should use either the Redbridge Park & Ride or Thornhill Park & Ride sites because the city centre will have various road closures in place on the day (more on these later). \n\n\n\nIN previouse events\, parking and bus tickets were available in advance (up to four days before the date of travel) via the RingGo app. Tickets provide return travel to central Oxford and 12 hours of parking. Anyone who has purchased in advance will just need to show the driver their RingGo app confirmation. Up to two adult tickets per car can be purchased in this way; if you have more than two adults travelling\, additional return travel can be bought in person on the day. \n\n\n\nThere are no train services from London that arrive in Oxford in time for you to make the start line on time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre there any road closures?+\n\n\n\n\nYes\, there will be a lot of road closures in place during the event – with the majority closing from 8.00am on Sunday (Holywell Street\, however\, will shut at 6.00am). Others will be closed from Saturday. \n\n\n\nRoads will then begin reopening gradually from 11.00am (Magdalen Street East and St Giles) until the final roads (Broad Street\, Museum Road\, and Parks Road) reopen at 6.0pm. \n\n\n\nFull details of road closures – including details of closures the day before the race – can be found at \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere are the best places for spectators?+\n\n\n\n\nBeing a city centre half marathon\, there is no bad place from which to cheer the runners as they go by. \n\n\n\nThere are plenty of places where the route will provide an amazing backdrop for photos of friends and family out on the course and other spots where you’ll be able to see people go by twice as they loop back down the same road. \n\n\n\nCheck out the map for a better idea of where to stand – it may depend on where you think the person you’re supporting could most do with seeing a friendly face in the crowd. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill there be on-course entertainment?+\n\n\n\n\nPlenty. There will be numerous bands\, choirs\, DJs\, and performers dotted along the route\, offering runners some much-needed encouragement\, and adding to the fantastic atmosphere on race day. \n\n\n\nDetails of acts and their locations will be published closer to the event date. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRead more about the Oxford Half Marathon\n\n\n\n Retail & Leisure\nOxford Half outpaces competition as 2026 race sells out in weeks\n\n Community\nHelen & Douglas House named headline charity partner for Oxford Half 2026\n\n Things To Do\nThe unmissable annual events in Oxford taking place in 2026\n\n Arts & Entertainment\nOxford bus driver overcomes illness and injury to complete Oxford Half Marathon \n \n\n\n\n\nView All
